Kerry used a slang term during the debate. Help me with the origin post #1  quote:

Ok this is probably no big deal but during the debate Kerry was addressing some issues with the black community. He then reffered to some bill or what not that he claimed that bush "re-nigged" on. No I myself am guilty of using this term but until I heard in on tv in a presidential debate I never thought anything of it. It tried to do an internet search on it but didn't come up with where this phrase comes from. Is it some derivative of the "N" word? I also thought that it might be slang for "re-negotiate". It might be spelled re-neg but everyone I have heard say it pronounces it like ""re-nigg". Anyone have any insight.

If you are talking about slang... he did say Idear twice.

You decide which is the correct one.

Okay..the first one is correct.....but I thought the third choice was hilarious!

I just noticed he slanged that word tonight..but to be fair he is from the Northeast...and that is their dialect there.

Urban Dictionary

1. idear

A pronounciation, often heard in New England, of "idea".

2. idear

a thought

3. idear

often said by people who are just learning the english language.

You should play a card game like Spades. You have to play a certain suit if you have it in your hand. If you don't play the suit, but then play the card later, you have reneged because you failed to play the suit you were supposed to play.

I noticed Kerry said "idear" also, it's a Northeast accent.

But surely you're not accusing him of butchering the English language like "the chimp that learned to speack."

Right. And you all went to Harvard too I suspect.

Kerry is a good at closing arguments, that's a given. Like true lawyer should.

I was joking...if you read my post I clearly stated this:I just noticed he slanged that word tonight..but to be fair he is from the Northeast...and that is their dialect there.

So...it was just in fun..okay. Sometimes its good to have a sense of humor...it isnt gonna kill you to have one you know.

I go to Columbia, and I can tell you that Bush is definitely not Ivy League material, he got in on legacy.

Are you trying to imply that Kerry made a racist remark?

no - s/he was asking a legitimate question in search of information. There was no implication whatsoever.

No I wasn't trying to imply anything. It's a word I've used before without ever thinking of it's origin. Only when I heard it in the debate and in a line that was dealing with the african american issues did I wonder what it's origin was and only because the way it's pronounced it sounds like it could have part of the "N" word in it. I didn't even know how to spell it. Thanks for all the reply's. I noticed the Idear reference too. I watch american chopper on the discovery channel and the dad on that show say's it the same way but I didn't know it was a northeast thing.

It seems to me that if he was simply asking the post would have simply included the question rather than mentioning the "n-word" reference. You seriously didn't feel like the post was trying to lead somewhere?

OK
