OOP possible director post #1  quote:

August 30, 2004 - Mira Nair, director of Mississippi Masala, Monsoon Wedding and the forthcoming Vanity Fair adaptation starring Reese Witherspoon, has been offered the director's chair for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Nair recently told the Times of India, "I'm getting offers to direct Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I read it over the weekend. I'm still deciding. ... My son Zoharan's excited. I've seen all the Harry Potter movies with him."

The next Potter flick, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, is currently shooting in the UK under the direction of Mike Newell (Mona Lisa Smile, Four Weddings and a Funeral).

GOF is due in theaters in November 2005. Warner Bros. seems to be spacing the films about a year and a half apart, so that would put the movie version of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on track for Summer 2007.

I don't think we've talked about the director.... at all...

It's some dude named David Yates.

I've never heard of him... so I'm just wondering... can the director really make and break a film, even a Harry Potter film? I have to say I had reservations about the director of the third movie, but he actually put on a tight, and rather thrilling, show.

The only thing David Yates has directed, that I've heard of, is The Bill... which can't really give you an idea of how he would direct a Harry Potter flick, now, can it? I desperately want to find out what kind of style this guy's gonna bring to it. Quite honestly, they're better off not wasting money on expensive directors (Chris Columbus was the most expensive of the 4, so far, I think), because that'll just take money away from the actors and the special effects...

So, in short, I have no flippin' clue as to what to think...

I don't either, Grant. Let's just hope that he can really pull this off, and make #5 even better than the fourth.

Now now, Heck... I'm sure that it's not that!!

And stop... I don't find anything wrong with her wanting to have all English actors for the films. My goodness... it's HER creation.

I think it's hurt the franchise. Spielberg was set to direct the first one and maybe a few others but he wanted to hire some American actors. Rowling said no. That's jacked.

I say every blockbuster from here on star only American actors.

I'm just glad I've never paid for any Harry Potter movies, books, etc. The tea sipping cow will never get my moolah.

You know what, I am going to write a cool tween book series and I will go to England and find any bookstore that sells my book and slap it out of kids' hands when they read it. Then when the movie comes out I won't even let it be released in England. Well, I would, but I would swtich the reel so it's a movie of me flipping off the camera for two hours. Then in the last five minutes I show clips of London being bombed in WW2.

He wanted that Haley Joel Osment to play Harry Potter.... that would've been a disaster...

HECK, dude, the American movie industry isn't hurtin' at all, but the English one is coughing and spluttering, spitting up all over the place. I'd figure she's just trying to improve the situation (which she probably has). They do have Americanized versions of the books, though.

One thing I hate though, is crap actors doing fake english accents. Fake Australian accents are either worse, because they just exagerate it as much as possible. The dudes on Buffy pulled it off, luckily, but I don't think the Harry Potter movies would be particularly pleasant with all those fake accents... *shivers*

I have to agree... I can't stand fake accents, when they aren't good!!! And it would have ruined the movies.
