2004 Video Awards Artist Line Up post #1  quote:

MTV adds to awards show list - Wed, Aug 4, 2004

NEW YORK — MTV continues to add celebrities to the 2004 Video Music Awards. The newest additions read like a veritable list of who's funny, who's in the tabloids and who can flip around two and a half times in midair on a skateboard.

Dave Chappelle, Paris Hilton, Tony Hawk, Lenny Kravitz, Ludacris, LL Cool J, Jon Stewart, Ashlee Simpson and Sean "P. Diddy" Combs will appear, MTV said Monday.

MTV also announced that hip-hop artists Lil' Jon, Petey Pablo, the Ying Yang Twins and Terror Squad featuring Fat Joe will perform. Already slated to perform are Usher, Kanye West, Yellowcard, Jet, Hoobastank and Jessica Simpson.

The 21st annual awards show will air live Aug. 29 from the AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami.

Jay-Z's jarring video for "99 Problems," which depicts his own murder as a metaphor for his retirement from rapping, leads with six nominations.

Beyonce, No Doubt and OutKast received five nominations each.

Dave Chappelle, Ashlee Simpson, P. Diddy, Tony Hawk, Ludacris Join The Gang At VMAs

Fresh from their various reality shows, talk shows, comedy shows, rock shows and skate competitions, Paris Hilton, Tony Hawk, Ashlee Simpson, Dave Chappelle, Jon Stewart, Lenny Kravitz, P. Diddy, Ludacris and LL Cool J have all been added to the list of celebrities appearing at the 2004 MTV Video Music Awards on August 29.

A raft of hip-hop artists have been added to the list of performers as well, including Lil Jon, Petey Pablo, the Ying Yang Twins and Terror Squad featuring Fat Joe. Chappelle will also perform, although there's no word on whether he'll also play the roles of Rick James, Prince, fellow performer Lil Jon or any other celebrity the comedian channels on his "Chappelle's Show."

The newly announced performers and guests will join Usher, Kanye West, Jessica Simpson, Hoobastank, Yellowcard and Jet, already slated to perform at the 2004 VMAs in Miami. The show will take place at Miami's American Airlines Arena on August 29 and will be broadcast live at 8 p.m. on MTV (tape-delayed on the West Coast).

Leading this year's pack of nominees is Jay-Z, who nabs six nominations for his "99 Problems" clip, and Beyoncé, No Doubt, Usher and Outkast have five nominations (check out the complete list of nominees) .

The Viewers' Choice Award will be determined this year by the VMAyhem Viewer's Choice Playoffs, which allow MTV.com users to narrow a list of 40 videos down to five nominees through head-to-head video battles. Voting on the five final nominees will begin on August 18.

The 2004 MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from Miami on Sunday, August 29, at 8 p.m on MTV.

For everything we've got on VMAs past and present, including news, features, photos and a chance to vote in this year's Viewer's Choice Playoffs, check out MTV.com's Video Music Awards page.

Britney got a lot of nominations! I hope she wins something this time. SHe never really wins awards for her stuff, even when she deserves them. I think she deserves them this time, "In The Zone" is definately her best album yet and sone of the songs are really really really good. But it's a tough competition, Christina, Beyonce, Jessica, they all have good songs and videos too.

I am glad I am not judging.

Yeah, it seems Britney doesn't really win a lot anymore. Now it's more about the new people and sounds. Britney's been doing this for a while. But Britney deserves something. I can see her getting one of those lifetime achievement things... or millennium awards or whatever it is they give to people like Michael Jackson and Madonna.

and I just have to say....

YAY Yellowcard!!

MTV2 Award - Yellowcard, "Ocean Avenue"
They won!!

I found it funny how it was such huge propaganda when the bushes and the Kerrys (daughters) showed up. The audience booed all four of them.. it was too folish to show up.. even though it is a good idea to influence young people to vote.
Theres too much politics in the Music Industry already so that was just extra.
