The Village post #1  quote:

The people of a small village in Pennsylvania in 1897 have long been aware of the mysterious creatures that live in the woods surrounding their homes, but only when markings appear on their doors do they begin to suspect that the creatures have dark intentions.

Saw this movie last night. I was just wondering if anyone else here had seen it and what they thought. I was expecting the movie to actually be scary, I was definitely disappointed.

yeah, It definetly was not what I expected, it was more of a love story than a scary film. That said, I still thought it was good, but not nearly as good as his previous works.

I agree with that. I think the previews made it look much better then the actual movie was.

**Possible Spoiler**

Maybe it was just me or perhaps someone could explain to me about whatever was in that box...Specifically the picture. It just thew me off, that's the only think I didn't understand. Or didn't it even matter?

Just the concil members knew. As Ivy's dad said he had been a history teacher before and he had heard tales of creatures being in the forest, so they then created those costumes and made up the monsters to scare their children from venturing off and finding the outside world.

I personally liked it alot, but the critics like killed it! it made me mad. and i dont like how they ended it either, i mean they could've like shown Ivy and Lutious'(I have no idea how to spell that name) wedding or something. but i liked the plot alot, I'm not a sary movie person and i liked the romance part. they played it up WAY too much in the previews, like it was gonna be wet your pants scary but it really wasn't. we watched it on our girls day out and we were talking about it all through dinner. and one more thing, Ivy kept saying stuff about Lutious' "color" was it red or what i got lost on 'that part

Thumbs up Yup Yup Yup post #16  quote:

Yeah I also thought the previews were very misleading. In my opinion the film wasn't better then Unbreakable, or Signs, but it was better then The Sixth Sense. Only because they had about 13 holes in the 6th sense. He even admitted the film was very sloppy, but did good because it came out in a time where no1 else was doing those type films. I mean if you've seen 6th sense you'll know what Im talking about, lol. So it comes in 3rd of 4 films.

BTW: Also, M.Night made a msitake with the previews. The people that madethe previews for Cabin Fever are the people who were doing with him. We all saw how Cabin Fever looked scary in previews, then came the film and wow, nothing to do with scary. So M.Night was working with a different party on this film. I didnt like the preview misleading us either, but hey, his mistake not mine, lol.

Yeah, I agree. I've seen it twice now, and for some reason, it was better the second time round.
Did you hear the sounds coming from the creature when it was chasing Ivy, or when it was in the village? They weren't human sounds, and couldn't have been made by a human. That's the only thing I thought...

It was ok, though. The plot could have been busier, but it was ok.

For me it was better the first time I saw it...Only because I got somewhat frightened the second time around it about made me laugh.
And yes your right the sounds the creature was making wasn't human...I'm sure they just added that for effect, but they must have thought how it didn't go with the fact that it was actually human?
I don't know some things about the movie confused me a bit.

Wow really!! That really comes as a shock to me because every person I know that saw the movie really liked it. That is very interesting. A big reason that I liked it so much was because of the village and what it stood for. I mean if there were a program like were you could sign up to live in a place with like minded people where money didnt exist and alot of the problems people face in modern society were not a problem you were likely to face I would be the first to sign up even though it would mean giving up many of the things I enjoy most. But also their is a lesson to be learned that as long as you live you will experience pain and sorrow, it is not something you can escape. I dont know I think the movie was incredibly deep. I saw it again the next day after I saw it the first time.

Yes, it did have some deep meaning to it, I will say that much. Though I suppose it could be taken in quite a few ways.
Perhaps the reason why most people I know didn't like it was because they were just going to see a 'scary' movie and well, it didn't really turn out to be as scary as they made it look like it would be. If you were going to see it for the reason you mentioned, then I suppose it would be enjoyable.

Very slow movie. I knew the one spoilers going in,

that the creatures were the townspeople, but I didn't know the second spoiler, that it was present day.

That blew me away.

I loved the film, the cinematography part. The valley they were in was stunning.

I thought it was cool that M. Night made an appearance in it.

The only thing about the movie I found cheesy, was the medicine in the frig, right by the cub-board.

I was like, huh?!!!!

They just keep meds in a frig, in the shack, in a glass refrig?

Still, it was a fun movie I thought.

If it weren't for the annoying sound effects and music at times....

It's good, but if you just read the spoilers, you probably won't like it.

I didn't know anything going into it, but with this dude's films, you have to expect something wacky at the end so all these different scenarios were going through my head.

The ending paid off for me. Solid.
