The Simpsons Go Gay post #1  quote:

“The Simpsons” will out a longtime character in an upcoming episode of the Fox animated hit - in an episode ripped from Hub headlines, in which the animated town of Springfield legalizes same-sex marriage.

At a panel discussion at the Comic-Con International in San Diego over the weekend, the show's creators revealed the gay plot twist but refused to identify which character will be taking a step out of the two-dimensional closet.

While the evidence may point to Waylon Smithers, slathering lackey to billionaire Montgomery Burns, the producers warned against rushing to judgment.

Show creator Matt Groening even joked it would be Homer, according to the Associated Press.

In the episode, which a Fox representative said yesterday will probably air in January, the town legalizes same-sex marriage to raise money and habitual screwup Homer obtains an Internet license to marry gay couples.

As for who will be coming out, we don't have a clue, but consider these Springfield residents and the odds of them making a special announcement:

Barney Gumble: Could his drinking be fueled by a love that dare not burp its name? Odds: 10-1.

Professor Frink: The town's resident inventor could only love a Borg. Or a really nice George Foreman grill. Odds: 50-1.

Nelson Muntz: Beneath that bully's exterior lies the heart of someone just waiting to grow into a bigger bully. Odds: 125-1.

Comic Book Guy: Everyone knows comic book geeks are babe magnets. Odds: 500-1.

Carl: What do we really know about Homer's fellow nuclear technician? Not much - except he is inseparable from best buddy Lenny. Odds: 5-1.

Waylon Smithers: Collects Malibu Stacy dolls, favors cutoffs on his day off, lives in the gay part of town and has a crush on his boss. By “Simpsons'“ standards, this is circumstantial evidence. Odds: 1,200,037-1.

Hmmm, Who could it be? Maybe Carl or Lenny? Smithers would be too obvious. I wonder .... ?

Ohhhhhh, that would be interesting. But I don't think they can do that, she's only 8.

Probably someone who only has a really minor role in the show, one of the lesser-known neighbours or something. They're probably just hyping it up.

It would be a character not married, minor role, but also important.

Kinda like when we heard when somebody was going to die. I never thought it would be Maude Flanders

I knew it was Maude because I heard the woman didn't have her contract renewed...

I don't know who it is, but I'm pretty sure it's not Smithers... he's basically already out. I mean, everybody knows he's gay, there can't be much of a story if he's outted....

Can't wait though may be great

Here's some possibilities:
Disco Stu?
Miss Hoover?
Bumblebee Man?

I dunno

I am thinking Ruth Powers. I think that is the character's name, she is the mother of the girl that Bart falls in love with, I think one of the new neighbours in town. She gets a gift basket when she moves into town and it has a coupon in it for free beer at moes which he doesn't want to honour. Does anyone know who I am talking about?

I know who you're talking about, but she hasn't shown up in too long. And they'd have to get Pamela Reed back to do her voice...

But that's actually a good choice; heartbroken woman from a failed marriage and all

That's what I thought.

Speaking of broken marriages .... what about Millhouses parents? They are always saying Millhouse has "gay tendancies", so maybe they will make his mum or dad gay?

Lenny and Karl have been getting rather friendly over the years.

Watch it be Flanders... a fanatical relgious guy getting married to a man. Now that would be comedy.

Simpsons' Patty is lesbian

Wedding belles ... Homer marries Patty

MARGE'S chain-smoking sister Patty has come out as a lesbian in cult American TV show The Simpsons.

In an episode called There's Something About Marrying, screened in the US last night, Homer Simpson became a minister on the internet and conducted dozens of same-sex weddings, charging $200 (£105) a pop.

This prompted long-time character Patty Bouvier to explain how she fell for professional golfer Veronica.

But love was not to be. Veronica turned out to be a man, betrayed by a protruding Adam's apple and unmasked at the altar.

Landmark TV moment ... Patty enjoys a kiss

The heavily promoted episode had attracted widespread publicity with bookmakers even taking bets on which character would be revealed as homosexual and whether there would be a kiss.

British viewers will get the chance to see it in May on Sky One.
