LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Socialite Paris Hilton has asked a Los Angeles judge to dismiss her invasion of privacy lawsuit against an Internet company that distributed a sex video of her, but she has reserved the right to refile the suit, her lawyer says.
The $30 million (16 million pound) lawsuit against Panama City-based Kahatani was dismissed on Friday as part of Hilton's "litigation strategy," her lawyer Heather McCloskey said on Tuesday.
"At this time no decision has been made as to whether to pursue (the lawsuit) at a later date," McCloskey said.
The notorious 45-minute video made available on the Internet by Kahatani before Red Light District Video, a suburban Los Angeles porn production company, snapped up distribution rights from Hilton's former boyfriend, Rick Salomon, in April.
The company had planned to release the film under the title "One Night In Paris."
Best known for starring on the Fox television reality hit "Simple Life," Hilton claimed in the lawsuit that the night-vision videotape had been "intended only for personal use."
Salomon and Hilton, whose grandfather founded the Hilton hotel chain, made the videotape in May 2001.
Paris has been paid $x amount in profits for so far and is taking a half share in profits in future. What a way to turn around. I just think it's funny.
Paris was paid $400,000.00 (I think in AUS$) for dropping the lawsuit. She will take 50% of the profits from future sales of the video. But the icing on the cake ...... she will give some of the profits to charity
Charity must the name of one of her friends
Seriously. If you were a charity would you take the money? I dunno ....
my brother and I both think that Paris was the first one to put the video out there.....I mean when it first came out, it was right before the 1st simple life...and then it came out on Video right before the 2nd simple life...so I think she does it so that people will know her name and also watch the show...that's just how we feel
I love Luke Schenscher! I miss David Greene! *Go Georgia Tech*
2-10-05~is a day that will forever live on in history as the day I saw, met and Ryan Cabrera gave me a high 5! The show was great and Ryan is the funniest man alive! I love u, Mr. Cabrera!
That would make sense. I have seen some of the tape (only three minutes of it) and honestly this girl wants to be a star so bad it's funny, she pushes him (Rick) out of the way all the time so she is the main focus of the camera, she is always looking straight into the camera and trying to act it up. It wouldn't surprise me if she did put the Video out there to help boost her name. She will do anything to be famous.

I mean come on everyone knows about Paris now because of that tape...I never knew her before my brother told me about the tape....and she always puts it out right before her show starts so that people will watch the show...

I think it is so dumb that "he" put the tape out there on a DVD...I mean it is so dumb....and then out of nowhere she makes sure when she goes to get it...that someone for US WEEKLY, takes a picture of her with it...

You've got to hand it to her, she certainly knows to go about self-promotion. If I was running for President, I would have her on my PR team. Or maybe not ....
I don't think I would want her on my PR team but she does know how to get her name out there....I mean almost everyone knows her because of that dumb tape....

I had a thought about your theory that she was always going to release the tape and I remmebered that in the tape Ricks says to her "Turn around and face the camera so everyone can see how pretty you are" and "Let everyone see what I see".
Who's "everyone" if they weren't planning to sell it? Were they going to show it to their friends? I don't think so. I think they planned to sell it all along and her suing Rick was just another way to get publicity for it.
see I think they were going to put it out there all along...or maybe they were going to show it to their friends but that's kinda sick if they were....

Hotel heiress Paris Hilton turned the air blue while recording a series of TV interviews Wednesday -- after becoming furious over constant questions about her infamous sex tape.
The socialite, 23, threatened to walk out on the shows, arranged to promote her new jewelry line, after becoming infuriated when reporters switched the focus onto her colorful private life.
Hilton was left red-faced when a tape featuring her having sex with ex-lover Rick Salomon was leaked on the Internet earlier this year.
And when another interviewer quizzed her over the incident, Paris really let rip.
She shouted, "People keep asking me about the sex tape. I'm really getting [bleeped] off.
"It's really [bleeped] up, because we're live on TV and I was ready to walk off the set just now. It's really rude!
"If one more person asks me I'm gonna get up and walk away."
She can't blame anyone but herself. Of course people will always ask her about it. If she didn't want a reaction she shouldn't have made the tape, shouldn't have let Rick have it and shouldn't have allowed him to sell it. It's her own stupid fault.
