I saw the midnight showing last night (damn tired right now), and while I'm still letting it tumble around in my head, I am leaning toward liking it better than the first one.
I know for sure that Doctor Octopus was a far better villian than Green Goblin from the first movie.
The story had more elements from the comic book series. There was great character development and strong co-star support throughout. Excellent story. It was campy, cheese dialogue, comic-book fun that came together very well. You can tell when a movie just works. And we get a taste of what's to come in the series, as well. Not to mention it ending on a good note.
The action and special effects were more seemless. Kick ass fight scenes. The CGI has come along way.
I give it thumbs up and raise my beer to Spider Man 2. Here's to Spidey 3 coming soon.
I didn't like it. They definitely could have shaved off parts of the movie to make it shorter. Especially the part when he is walking around after throwing his costume out with the “rain drops dropping on my head” song
The acting was very corny
Dr. Octopus was cool and so were the fight scenes
Overall it was not what I expected. I expected it to be Spiderman kicking ass the entire movie.
Well, he kicked ass in big chunks. The sequel was very different from the first one. It was lighter and darker in many respecets. It had campy fun (ie. the song) then pretty wicked violent scenes (Doc Ock regulating in the hospital). The subway scene was better than anything in the first one.
I liked it - and despite Peter never growin' the balls to follow his heart despite the consequences quite like Mary Jane did at the end - it was fun and I enjoyed it as much or more than the first.
I agree, it was far better than the first one. I felt the same way about X-Men 2. Is it the origin storyline that makes the first movie in a superhero franchise inferior to the sequel(s)?
I think possibly so, HECK. They have to include the origin in the first one, as well as develop, accelerate and climax a villian story. They have to include and balance thematic elements into the story that link well with the comic series... Sometimes that's a tall order, especially with an ensemble like the X-Men. I think it's easier with Spiderman.
S2 was far better than the first one. Better action, a more open story, better connectivity with the comic series, better character interactions, smarter stronger, better-developed villian story (GG looked stupid. Good starting point for the film series to go with GG, but I never got into his storyline too much. Never really liked him...) with Doc Ock. I like the allusion to what will happen in S3 (I'm betting a 2-villian scenario with Hobgoblin and the Lizard).
I think the movie was not bad. Much better than the first one. This one had its share of cheesy scenes and lines too, but they were not many. Overall a good movie. Alfred Molina did a good job as Doc Ock.

i loved the first movie and i've been waitin' for spidey vs. the doc for 2 years. it didn't disappoint me. i thoroughly enjoyed the movie. the only way to top it would be for the previously mentioned 2-villian scenario for the next installment.
How could you not like GG? It was Willem Dafoe!! He's the man...a great actor, no one could have played him better. Ok so the costume sucked, big deal...

More than the costume, it was the mask in specific. It made him look more stupid than sinister.
William Dafoe was great otherwise.
