Everyone who is reading Chamber of Secrets (and many should be ) if you find something in this book that you think will be relevent to book 6, post it here, i am reading it, and writing down things. Like JK says the Prince isn't Harry or Voldemort, but what about Tom Riddle? Just a thought.
On page 263 and 264 in Chamber of Secrets, right after Dumbledoor is suspended, he says "You will find that I will only truly have left this school when none here are loyal to me. You will also find that help will always be given at Hogwartsto those who ask for it."
Could he know he will die soon? Maybe he thought he might not go back to Hogwarts before he died, and he knew Harry and Ron were there, so he would say that so that Harry and Ron knew. Dumbledoor always said Voldemort would come back, maybe he was saying that if he was killed and Voldemort came back, he would remain a ghost to help defeat him?
That line really meant nothing to the story. Maybe it is important in the 6th book?
I always thought that he was talking about Fawkes, but you could be on to something there. We did find out in book 5 that the portraits are loyal to Dumbledore too. I don't see Dumbledore as being one to fear death and remain as a ghost. I do think that he could be the half-blood prince. Heck, it could be anyone.
This is from the chapter called Mudbloods and Murmurs...
Ron just tried to curse Malfoy for calling Hermione a mudblood...They go to Hagrid's for help.
This is one of Ron's few expositional moments in the entire series, and the lines go to Hagrid and Hermione in the movie.
"It's about the most insulting thing he could think of," gasped Ron, coming back up. "Mudblood's a really foul name for someone who is Muggle-born--you know, non-magic parents. There are some wizards--like Malfoy's family--who thnk they're better than everyone else because they're what people call pure-blood." He gave a small burp, and a single slug fell into his outstretched hand. He threw it into the basin and continued, "I mean, the rest of us know it doesn't make any difference at all. Look at Neville Longbottom--he's pure-blood and he can hardly stand a cauldron the right way up."
"An' they haven't invented a spell our Hermione can' do," said Hagrid proudly, making Hermione go a brilliant shade of magenta.
"It a disgusting thing to call someone," said Ron, wiping his sweaty brow with a shaking hand. "Dirty blood, see. Common blood. It's ridiculous. Most wizards these days are half-blood anyway. If we hadn't married Muggles we'd've die out."
Now, like I said, Ron isn't usually an expository character. We usually get our exposition from Hermione or one of the adults, so you have to be careful how you interpret his words here. But he does say most wizards are half-blood anyway. So I guess that opens it up to mean that just about anyone could be the Half Blood Prince.
But Tom is a younger version of Voldermort. Isn't he? That is just what I thought because remember he didn't like the name his Muggle father left him with. Tom Marvolo Riddle (sorry if I didn't spell stuff right) and it turns out to change to "I am Lord Voldemort" Right?
"They're starting a dueling club!" said Seamus. "First meeting tonight! I wouldn't mind dueling lessons; they might come in handy one of these days..."
"What, you reckon Slytherin's Monster can duel?" said Ron, but he, too, read the sign with interest
"Could be useful," he said to Harry and Hermione as they went to dinner. "Shall we go?"
Harry and Hermione were all for it......
What if, since everyone now knows that Voldemort is back, that Dumbledoor brings back the Dueling club and appoints Harry as teacher?
Also, when Professor Binns is explainng the Chamber he says,"You all know of course, that Hogwarts was founded over 1000 years ago- the precise date is uncertain...." Just because we know that JK can surprise us easily, and this is just a thought, maybe Godrick Gryffindor comes back on the anniversery and gives Harry advice or something, I am just thinking crazy.
I also said in an earlier post, might not have been here, about what Dumbledoor said about not truly leaving until everyone at Hogwarts was no longer faithful to him. I think what he means is Fawkes will stay and Dumbledoor's spirit will be in him. Then Harry will inherit Fawkes when/if Dumbledoor dies.
Also I thought that the Basilisk was the snake that Voldemort has with him.
I'll keep searching for more clues, but I don't think there is a clue about who the half-blood prince is.
Nagini is not a basilisk, but a giant snake of some type. Nagini has looked many people in the eyes and they have not died.
I think the dueling club will return, but with a teacher leading it. Harry is good at DADA, but he is not necessarily a dueling champion. Flitwick used to be a dueling champion so perhaps he will be the teacher.
Keep up the good work looking for clues Zeppelin. I had forgotten about the dueling club.
In the actual Chamber, Riddle says that Dumbledore is gone because of the memory of him, then Harry yells, "He's not as gone as you might think!" without even thinking about saying that, it just came out. I think that Dumbledore is always there through Fawkes. That is what he meant when he became suspended. That is probabily the big thing that will happen. Dumbledore will die, but still be there through Fawkes.
