tagboards?

i don't know how well this would work on a message board, but has anyone thought about tagboards? for those that don't know, they are kind of like mini-chat boards on a site. whenever i go to the chat room, most of the time there's no one there. but if there were tagboards on some of the boards, then you could just have realtime chats right there.
