Differences Between Lord of the Rings and the Chronicles post #1  quote:

C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien were very close friends, so close in fact that Tolkien's Treebeard was modeled after Lewis. *and if i remember rightly Lewis vaugely based one of his creations of Tolkien* They were both professors, and were in the same book club, known as the Inklings. Both created fantastic worlds, and both worlds originated as a stroy for their children.

However both stories are vastly different. Here's where we discuss those difference, some blatantly obvious, others extremely subtle.

Excellent thread Shadow.

I think the Chronicles were for a younger audience. They were much lighter in tone and complexity.

LOTR and the Hobbit, well, they seemed to be more advanced and richer in language.

The Chronicles were more religious also.

The Chronicles of Narnia was based on Children during the Second world war and so on from that. It involved Children who had been sent to the countryside away from the city's going into a different world.

Lord of the Rings is set in a medieval world where sorcerers and warriors fight for supremacy. It involves unlikely heroes in both Frodo and Gollum but also involve the classic hero types, for example Gandalf and Aragorn.

Both stories capture the imagination of Adults and Children alike. Everyone can associate themselves with something in the Lord of the Rings where as Narnia is a world where we run away from everyday life and jet off into a different persons life.

However many differences Narnia and Middle Earth have they have both produce two of the most timeless and unforgettable characters in literary history. Gandalf and Aslan
