I hope that it's a rumor. While I LOVE Star Wars (the original trilogy) I hate the thought of a series. I think that it would bomb. They wouldn't put that much into the special effects, and it would end up a cheesy show.

An animated show would be cool, but they couldn't gear it solely to kiddies. Make it darker, like that Batman series in the late 90's.

Cartoon Network is airing 5 minute SW shorts by the maker of Samurai Jack which are kinda cool.
