I think Professor McGonagall is Harry's godmother. She is a teacher, so she would not be able to tell him. It would explain why she would sit on the wall at Privet Drive all day when the Potters were killed. She also gets very upset every time Harry is injured.
But, no offence to her, but isn't she a little old? I mean, she's probably old enough to be Harry's Grandmother. I expect his godmother to be someone younger, like a close friend of Harry's mother, probably.
Could be Petunia certainly hope not though

No, it wouldn't be Petunia... and if it is, she's doing one hell of a job hiding it.
McGonagall does have some emotional attachment to little Harry.
She bought him his first broom as well...
I think that it could be possible, but not likely.
We've never heard about Lily's friends at school.
We know who James was close to, but no friends of Lily's have been mentioned.

He would, but I don't think J.K. would. I think we are going to have to wait and see, but I hope he does have a Godmother out there. He needs to catch a break.
daemon17 said this in post #12 : Honestly, it would be nice if he did, but I don't think he does. Wouldn't Dumbledore have told him in the end of the Order of the Phoenix?
Not if he isn't the secret keeper on that particular thing!
