Northern Kentucky. Although, I've heard some compelling arguements against this. They said it in one episode and in another, someone mention going south or the border and Homer said, "You mean tennasee?"
"What one believes to be real, will be real in it's concequences"
"You must be the change you wish to see in the world"
I believe it is Iowa, because I remember in one episode when all the kids in school were taking tests to show what future career they would be (Bart is a cop and Lisa is a homemaker)
Crikey, I thought the Simple answer here was '742 evergreen terrace', but if we're getting into states, I always thought it was Northern Kentucky, too. I believe that's what they said in the Simpsons Special 'Behind the laughter'.
It is well known to any Simpsons fan, that the homestate of the family is unknown.
Their town is called Springfield, and most (if not all states) have a Springfield.
My friends and I have taken the liberty of eliminating the states that we know the
Simpsons don't live in based upon stuff that happened in the show.
Here they are, with the reason they don't live there.
Rhode Island -- Because Moe's Liquor licence is only good in Rhode Island
Texas -- Because no jury in the world would convict a baby... Well, maybe Texas.
Florida -- Because Florida is America's wang.
Missouri -- Springfield Elementary was voted to be the most delapatated in all of Missouri. Then moved to its current location brick by brick
Utah -- Because when Bart got caught for the Big Butt Skinner weather balloon, he wanted to race Milhouse there.
Massachusettes-- Because Homer once said "Go back to Massachusetts, you communist."
Mississippi -- In the episode when the Simpsons were visited by Sherry Bobbins, Principal Skinner was selling Jimbo on the street. Jimbo asked if it was even legal, and Skinner replied "Here, and in Mississippi."
Delaware -- "The Simpsons are going to Delaware" -- Homer
California-- There is no Springfield in California
Pennsylvania-- While talking about Pennsylvania, Homer says "Pennsylvania" it in a creepy voice.
Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Connecticut, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, New York, Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, Alabama, Wisconson, Kentucky, Tennessee -- KBBL is the springfield radio station. Radio stations that begin with K are West of the Mississippi river, W are East of the Mississippi river, C are Canada, and X are Mexico. Therefore the simpsons must live in the west half of the country
Arizona -- Because Arizona smells funny
New Mexico -- "There's a NEW Mexico?" -C.M. Burns
South Dakota -- Because Mt. Rushmore is in South Dakota
North Dakota -- "North Dakota here we come!"
Arkansas, Louisianna -- In the episode where the simpsons were discussing the fact that their state flag is inappropriate, it is mentioned that they are a "Northern State"
A note to those of you who believe that the Simpsons live in Kentucky because of the "Behind the Laughter" episode: I heard that there are other versions of that episode that say a different state than Kentucky, which is why we cannot base our solution on that assertion From my calculations, the following states remain (more than half way there!):
Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Arkansas, and Louisianna
There are 10 types of people in this world. Those who know binary... and those who don't.
I was talking to some of my friend and they said nowhere because you can't see the St. Louis Arch and the Statue of Liberty at the same place. I don't think it Kentucky because how can they go out into international water there.
They had an episode recently where they do a zoon out from the top of the house up into out of space. If I knew my American geography I could work it out from that but I don't
All I know is it was inland, not near international waters or a beach. But then, all the writers wouldn't keep that in mind when they write the scripts. Only some.

Oh yeah I just saw that yesterday.... I am still going to say Iowa because that is the vicinity of where they zoomed out from. Take a look at the map. There is also a slim chance it is Nebraska or North Dakota too because I glanced at the tv right when they zoomed out and I didn’t get that good of a look.… but I doubt it.
"Springfield" is a fictional location. One more time for the world: "Springfield" is a FICTIONAL location. It is not in Illinois, not in Massachusetts, not in Southern Missouri, not in Northern Kentucky.
Matt Groening says he chose the name because it is one of the most common city names (121 Springfields exist in the U.S.) and the setting of the antithesis to The Simpsons, Father Knows Best.
In the episode where the Simpsons go to Brazil Lisa suggests that if you look at the clues you can figure it out. I think a lot of the clues will contradict others, but from the sounds of it North Dakota or Nebraska sound likely.

I saw the episode where they zoom right out from their house and up out over America and into the sky into the stars, but my American geography knowledge is almost non-existant, so I have no idea.
Somebody once told me that it was in Massachusetts and they gave me a very good reason why and I have totally forgotton it but it had something to do with the names of the characters especially grampa.
