In poor taste? post #1  quote:

Did anyone else catch that after Sean Penn won his Oscar and gave his speech, Billy Crystal said "Bill..don't leave Bill" which was directed at the Bill Murray in the audience? Since Bill Murray had won other leading male awards in the weeks prior to the Academy Awards I guess he was the favorite. I thought the "joke" was in poor taste for Billy Crystal to cause attention to Bill Murray not winning the award!

I'm in agreement with you. I found that was sort of 'sad' to point that out.
While many thought that he was the 'shoe in' for the academy, to point him out afterwards was rude.

KJ, Happy to hear someone felt the same! Did you also see that the cameras zoomed in on Bill to get the reaction of Crystal's joke! SAD!

Yes, I did see that... and I know that the oscars is a night of jokes... it has been. It's filled with laughter and making fun of people. But, I felt that this particular comment wasn't a joke. It was in poor taste... and there is no need to focus on someone who didn't win.

Actually, Billy Crystal was playing off of Bill Murray. Bill Murray was pretending to be disappointed. Billy Crystal, who is an old friend, was just going along with it.

No, that's not true... because he was interviewed later that night, and he was upset, and said that he was sure that he had won, and wouldn't have come if he knew that he was going to lose. Now, I didn't "hear" this from his lips... but that was the report.

I heard something completely different. Then he was on Letterman the other night and made a joke about it.
