THUNDERBIRDS (RELEASED SUMMER 2004)
The film is based on the 1960s cult U.K. television puppet series and follows the Tracy family and their top-secret International Rescue organization. They travel around the world carrying out covert missions with the Thunderbirds, a set of five vehicles ranging from a rocket to a space station. Ben Kingsley's character will invade Tracy Island, the secret base and home of International Rescue and the Thunderbirds, in the hope of using them for his own evil needs.
The film is aimed squarely at the "Spy Kids" market and centers on Jeff's youngest son, 14-year-old Alan Tracy, who's earning his stripes as a Thunderbird.
The movie will be directed by Star Trek star Jonathan Frakes who says that the filmmakers are being careful not to alienate fans of the original series. "We haven't changed [too much], A lot of the casting is physically like the characters. The actors do look like the marionettes."
PLOT SYNOPSIS
Tracy Island, a lush patch of land situated in the remote waters of the South Pacific, is home to brilliant entrepreneur Jeff Tracy (Bill Paxton) and his five sons. It is also the home base of Tracy's top-secret organisation, International Rescue - and it is under siege. Master criminal the Hood (Sir Ben Kingsley) has breached island security, intent on commandeering International Rescue's fleet of five highly advanced rescue vehicles, each designed to accomplish a specific do-or-die task. Deploying Jeff and his four eldest sons on a fake mission, the Hood finds his plans obstructed by Jeff's youngest son Alan (Brady Corbet), who will do anything to save Tracy family and the organisation
Having narrowly averted a major disaster on an oil rig, the Thunderbirds have just returned home to their secret base when TB5, their space based station, is critically damaged in a suspected meteor strike. Unbeknown to them, the attack on TB5 is a deliberate ploy by international master criminal Hood to get them off the island. He takes over Tracy Island and drugs Brains into submission. But Hood has overlooked one key factor - Alan, Fermat and Tin Tin are still on the island
