Interesting stuff but this is a JUNE 2002 post. THey were still editing and putting in pieces for the other 2 movies. THis is obviously ideas just playing out. Remember The original Oracle died as well adn they had to change up the story a bit too.
Same thing happened in Star Wars Return of the Jedi. THey were gonna call it Revenge of the Jedi, they were gonna use Lukes BLue light sabre, the ending was gonna have Vader living as he turned to the light side. None of this happened.
I really dont think there is another matrix and zion story. Ok i understnd the machines build ZION. NEO causes a reeboot and he chooses the humans to start over. Just like they are manipulated to believe they are in the Matrix they are manipulatedto believe they were in Zion all along, the word spreads, fine.
HOWEVER, i DO think thata maybee when the trilogy is released as a boxset we may see alternate endings.
Extrapolations and speculation may have logic but they only bring more skepticism and doubt.
Thanks for the post and link, db. I'd have to agree with Shivadee's comments, in that in the final analysis, alternate endings or parallel universes do not seem to fit into the grand scheme of the story that the Wachowski's told through their 3 films.
Nevertheless, Michael Turner's comments confirmed several themes which most of us have suspected all along (eg. machines building Zion and so on). I found it breathtaking and awe-inspiring that the Wachowskis went to such extremes as to provide clues in the sets and backdrops to tell their story in its entirety. It's such a shame that none of the crew that worked on the films were nominated for an Oscar, as I strongly feel their efforts ought to have merited a couple of nominations, at the very least.

Everyone has died five times – I think this is the sixth lot of people living in Zion.
There are also a lot of clues in it, in that it looks way older than it could possibly be realistically. There are hundreds and hundreds of years of rust in it and it’s really decrepit. One clue, when you get down to the Residents Area, is that it has rock flowing over the fronts of the residences, and that takes hundreds of years to happen. But no one in Zion, I think, gets that they’re not the first ones there. They all feel like they’ve been freed from the machines, but in fact the machines have known all along that they’ve been freed and they’re just in another machine environment.

I understood that the machines architect the one, the prophecy and the rebuilding of Zion. But WHY ? why do they want the free humans? why do they attempt to destroy Neo if he is part of their scheme "you are an inherent anomaly which despite my best efforts i have failed to destroy" " you are a flaw in an otherwise perfect system"
