Let us reward those that allow INReview to exist. So it shall be written - so it shall be done.
What are Reward Points?
Reward Points are a means for INReview to reward its members for planting the ideal fruit in the harvest; brightening a glittering star in the sky. Creating an elite post will yield points upon its author. Reward points set members apart from the rest.
Why bother with Reward Points?
We may merely be idealists, but we believe the use of Reward Points will help to enhance what is already a great community. The core hope in this philosophy is that with the potential for reward comes motivation: the seed for growing expanded intellectual capacity and sharing it in a public environment. Those already achieving this elevated plateau of forum existence will reap the benefits of our rewards and those that are almost there will try even harder.
What value do Reward Points provide me?
Once a month, points will be tallied and the two members with the most points will be awarded Platinum Membership for the following month. Members can receive Platinum Membership no more than two months in a row. However, once a month passes, they are eligible to receive the reward again. Gold Members are given the option to give their Platinum Membership to a non-Gold Member.
Platinum Members will receive nearly all of the benefits of a Gold Membership for the period of one month. Gold Members receiving Platinum Membership will receive additional time added to their existing membership in one month increments.
Finally, a year-end poll will be created allowing the members of INReview to determine who of the twenty-four Platinum Members for that year will carry the title of Diamond Member for the coming year.
A Diamond Member receives complimentary Gold Member benefits for the period of one year. A Gold Member receiving Diamond Membership will be credited a full free year.
How do I get Reward Points?
INReview staff will directly hand out reward points. However, any member is capable of nominating a post for reward points.
Reasons for receiving Reward Points are as follows:
- Exceptional Post.
- Initiating an Excellent Conversation Starter.
- Post contains a High Level of Humor.
- Remaining Calm and Collected in the Face of Conflict.
- Demonstrating you are a Clear-Cut Debate Champion.
- Find an excellent Resolution to a Conflict.
- Referring people to INReview (see My Info in My INReview).
- Reporting Bugs in the Forum that are Confirmed.
- Making Forum Feature Suggestions that are Implemented.
- Finder's Fee (nominating a post that receives Reward Points)
- Induction into the Hall of Fame.
- Member Referrals (added to your total at the end of the month)
Can I nominate someone for a Reward - if so, how?
Absolutely! At the bottom of each post is a 'Report/Nominate Post' button. Click on 'Nominate Post' to fill out a form for nominating the post. If a post you nominate is accepted, you will receive reward points in the form of a 'Finder's Fee' and be notified via Private Messaging. Only the first nomination of a post resulting in points awarded to the author will be rewarded.
What are Special Nominations?
There are two types of Special Nominations: one for the Hall of Fame and another for the Hall of Shame.
Hall of Fame: When you come across what you feel is a superior post ranking above and beyond the rest, please nominate it for the INReview Hall of Fame. However, please be selective, most posts being nominated for this honor will be turned down. Member's receiving this recognition will receive the highest of reward points.
Hall of Shame: This collection of posts is reserved for those you might find at the very bottom of the scrap heap of intellectual waste. While these can be humorously stupid or so ignorant it hurts, one thing is for certain: they are utterly shameful. Member's receiving this recognition will receive no reward points but can be happy knowing their work is being admired one way or another.
Who can see my Reward Points?
Only you and INReview's Staff can see your reward points.
Who has already won Platinum Memberships?
January, 2004: chelktty and HECK February, 2004: outsider and mystic March, 2004: chodder and gaboman
Im assuming that this excludes moderators...correct? (Because they already have these benefits?)
And by recieving these points people who havent paid for said membership, get free membership for just that following month only?
and can the same person win each month?
Im just curious....
Well....I dont open many threads...so that puts me out of that one and most people dont particularly like what I have to say...so I guess Ill have to make sure I enjoy the benefits I already have for the year.
Of course thats just my opinion....I could be wrong. (Dennis Miller)

Me, too, Mystic, I think the nominations I get aren't exactly the kind anybody would want to have.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16 (New Testament, King James version)
I think if there are reward points which are given for exceptionally clever and outstanding posts, we should lets these points go into negative for those who enlighten us with their unseen stupidity. What do you think, Marc?
Juko, we have both reward and warning points. While it's true that people post comments filled with stupidity, and many other things, we aren't going to fill people's "points" for such comments. That would be outright rude. I'm sure people wouldn't want those sort of points... would you?
Mystic and Marlene, I can see different posts that you've done that would have warranted such reward points. Don't think so negatively... just keep doing what you do on this board. You both bring a lot of information, conversation and positivity to the board.

If you find one post by me that is filled with stupidity, i am all yours, KJ.
For example, if somebody says "it's warm in the mountains because you are nearer to the Sun" they deserve -10 points. "There is nothing wrong with being naked on the street" - -5 points.
j/k
i don't want to sound like an obnoxious person but did you get your platinum and diamond membership from me? i remember posting something awhile ago about have a crystal membership. here is the link. either way this is a good idea and I'm sure it will spark more intellectual conversations and create more great thinkers *cough*like me*cough*
Chodder, we've been working on this who concept for some time... but it's just now coming to frutation. We've wanted a way to reward loyal members who post great conversation starters, etc... (you can see from the list what we're looking for to reward).
Juko... I wasn't pointing that directly at you... not meaning that you would be doing such things.... just in general. I can't see giving someone negative points for stuff like that. We're here to encourage people to stay, to enjoy the board, to have fun, to stay intelligent and clean. While there are those people out there who post things that we don't want on here, we have the warning point system for that. While those examples that you have are good... I can't personally give someone "stupid" points. Maybe someone else, in good conscience, could, it wouldn't be me.
PS... I know that you're joking!

I have no idea, Chodder. I guess that it just depends on the posts that each person makes. Reward points will be given out for those that have posts that hit those particular points. Also, other reasons can be suggested. If there is a post that you've seen from someone that fits a category listed in the first post from Marc, please PM one of the staff. We will look at it and see what we think.

All kidding aside - we do intend to implement a HALL of FAME and HALL of SHAME for the top of the top posts and the low of the low that are so asinine - it hurts.

chodder said this in post #11 : but what happens if somone wins platinum numerous times? i think once they win, they cant win anymore to make it fare for the other people.
Initially, we will play this by ear. If we find the same folks achieving the top spots over and over again, we'll consider the logistics of the situation at that time.
wow, you have this all figured out. i cant stump you or even find a loophole in it. you must have been really working hard on this i think im done with my butt kissing for today
