The new Battlestar Galactica on scifi channel, is awesome.
I was put off a little when I saw the previews and the main Cylon character was a humanoid woman. I thought, why can't they put up some bucks for a robot Cylon character?
But I was happily surprised, she did a good job. Everyone did a good job, except for Starbuck. The girl who played her has been taking testosterone shots or something.
Maybe she will get better when they turn it into a series and she gets some better story-lines.
Hey Whidden, I've seen two episodes of this mini series so far. How many are there, do you know? I LOVE this show. I was a HUGE BSG fan when I was a kid, and it's great that they are doing a new version. I love the new Starbuck. She is so damn funny... and she is supposed to be tough. She has the charastics of the Starbuck from the old days!!! Even though they went from guy to gal. Same with Boomer.
Love the humanoid cylons. They are too cool... and the "sleeper" cylon. OH MAN! Didn't see THAT one coming.
Do you think that they will turn this in to a series?

It's just the two that I know of, but from what I'v heard they are going to make it a series.
They are probably just waiting to see how the mini-series did in the ratings.
Maybe the new Starbuck will grow on me.
I was real happy about it being good because I watched a one hour preview on it and it looked terrible. I almost didn't tune in that night to watch it. Glad I did.
Yeah... but look how they ended it!!! I was bummed.
I wanted more... But, I'm sure that is for us to know that they won't stop.
That the cylons are going to comb every where to find them, thinking that the humans will want to come after them. They just don't get it that the humans want to be left alone. They don't want to attack them.
Anyway... I HOPE that it becomes a series! I will watch it every week if so.

It was so awesome. (spoilers if you ain't seen it)
This is what I liked:
Those awesome guns on the Galatica
The way the ships wink out when they go light speed
Edward James Olmos is so cool
The Colonial Vipers (gonna have to get the model)
The Cylon ships
The Galactica ship
The NYPD Blue camera shots during special effects (camera moving all around back and forth)
Good writing for the dialog
Close shots of the robot Cylons with the red eye traveling
The Cylon babe is good lookin
This is what I felt minor irritation with:
Far away shots of the Cylon robots..........too CGI fake
Boomers a Cylon! What! Let's make Spock a borg in the next Star Trek movie!
When the good lookin Cylon chick decides to mercy kill the baby, because the world is about to get nuked. Could have done without that. For some reason the thought of billions and billions dead don't hit home like the death of a nice little newborn in it's baby carraige.
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - The reimagined take on the cult classic "Battlestar Galactica" looks like a winner for Sci Fi Channel, with taut acting and impressive dramatic relationships taking the lead over space battles, campy robots and glittery costumes.
This could be the most exciting, entertaining franchise since "Star Trek," appealing to mainstream audiences as well as a new generation of aficionados. But will the miniseries pull in the die-hard fans who've been grumbling about the extensive liberties taken with the 1978 series in its new incarnation?
Grounded in reality, the futuristic "Galactica" is edgy, romantic and suspenseful in the best tradition of war movies. Edward James Olmos (news) as Cmdr. William Adama and Mary McDonnell as Laura Roslin bring a captivating depth of assurance and believability to their respective characters. This is one "remake" that's far more engaging and fun than the original.
Executive producers David Eick and Ronald D. Moore are to be lauded for their fine work on this project, adeptly helmed by Michael Rymer. The writing by Moore and Christopher Eric James sparkles, transcending stock genre dialogue and the usual potboiler science fiction telefilms.
The original "Galactica," which ran for one season on ABC, starred the late Lorne Greene (news) as commander of the massive starship. Humanity was on the run from a race of robots known as Cylons, who spoke in eerie electronic voices and who were bent on the destruction of humanity. Greene, playing Adama, was in charge of the "ragtag" surviving fleet, leading the search for a new haven: the legendary lost world known as Earth.
In the new miniseries, set 40 years after the original Cylon Wars, the gigantic Battlestar Galactica has been turned into a spacegoing museum, a destination point for tourists and a public relations tool. But when the Cylons break the peace, Cmdr. Adama gets set to kick some robotic rear.
Olmos brings a dignity and understated force to the role of the battleship commander that will command close attention from viewers. Of all the commanders on other popular sci-fi series, including "Star Trek" and "Babylon 5," Olmos may be the most effective and believable.
McDonnell creates a fine portrayal as a gravely ill chief executive who is thrust into top office after government officials were decimated.
The miniseries avoids the trap of endlessly using CGI figures as cannon fodder, focusing on the space battles from the human side. Those outer space battles are decent enough, but we've seen their like before.
Putting a human face on a small contingent of the robot Cylons, the mechanical beings have produced androids that can pass for people. Foremost among these androids is the sensual Number Six (Tricia Helfer), a sort of "Terminator" who is cool and enigmatic as she latches onto womanizing scientist Gaius Baltar (James Callis (news)). Their liaison leads to a number of racy sex scenes.
Another plot line involves the relationship of estranged father Olmos and his brash son, Capt. Lee Adama, also known as Apollo (Jamie Bamber (news) of "Band of Brothers").
Many hard choices are made that show the desperate side of war, including deliberate parallels between the miniseries and contemporary political events, notably the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11. Extending that parallel, "Galactica" makes the attackers into unhuman creatures capable of ruthless murder, as they blend into society.
The possibility exists of a new episodic series based on this miniseries. To which we affirm, battle on, Galactica.
Cast: Cmdr. William Adama: Edward James Olmos; Laura Roslin: Mary McDonnell; Capt. Lee Adama (Apollo): Jamie Bamber; Lt. Kara Thrace (Starbuck): Katee Sackhoff; Gaius Baltar: James Callis; Number Six: Tricia Helfer; Lt. Sharon Valerii (Boomer): Grace Park; Col. Tigh: Michael Hogan; Crew Chief Tyrol: Aaron Douglas; Billy: Paul Campbell.
Executive producers: David Eick, Ronald D. Moore; Director: Michael Rymer; Writers: Ronald D. Moore, Christopher Eric James; Based on a teleplay by: Glen A. Larson; Producer: Harvey Frand; Production manager: Ron French; Director of photography: Joel Ransom; Production designer: Richard Hudolin; Editor: Dany Cooper.

When the Cylon chick killed the baby...i think it was accidental...didnt she say something like "...its hard to believe its neck can support so much weight..." I think she tried to pick the baby up by its head or something
Like most of you I loved the old series, so I was lookin at this one with a VERY critical eye. I was waaaay disappointed that we didnt see more of the metalic cylons...you would think that with todays technology they would have made them into real "terminator-like" bad a$$e$
As for the new starbuck...she needs to have more fight scenes, since she is supposed to be the best or rather craziest pilot....
If the new boomer is a sleeper?...what happended to the human boomer?...
I do think they have plans for a limited series...hope they pull it off
It's the truth that the TRUTH makes them so uptight!
Ronald D. Moore, executive producer of SCI FI Channel's hit miniseries Battlestar Galactica, told the SyFy Portal Web site that he's prepping a proposed series, but that no decision has been made on whether it will go forward. The "jury is still out" on whether SCI FI will pick up the highly rated miniseries as a full-blown series, Moore told the site.
"We're still in discussions with the network," Moore said. "The actors' contracts have been extended until the end of January (that is the time period in which their options for series can be picked up), and I've been working on the show bible and the first few episodes in anticipation of a possible order." He added, "It's a complicated, ambitious show, and SCI FI Channel wants to understand all the economic implications before going to series—pretty standard network procedure—but I'm hopeful we'll get the pickup."
Moore also confirmed comments he previously made to IGN FilmForce that he will not be returning as a producer of HBO's fantasy series Carnivale, the site reported. "I won't be returning to Carnivale for its second season, as I decided to concentrate on development and hopefully a BSG series," Moore said.
