Chat programs? post #1  quote:

I used to have this thing called "trilion" which combined MSN, ICQ, AIM, AND YAHOO into one application so I didn't have to open the 3 that I had.

I uninstalled it because it took away some features I liked with the original programs. But I've been hearing about some other programs like Trilion, which may be better. Unfortunately I can't remember the names.

Know of any? Anyone?

I know of one called Odigo. You may read about it and/or download it at:
http://download.com.com/3000-2150-1...ml?tag=lst-4-11

Trillian has been blocked by MSN, so it won't work for MSN anyway.

p.s. There are tools called 'search engines' which should be used first.

I am just kidding so don't flex your mod muscles on me, okay?

I use mostly mIRC,it's great. It has a infinite amount of channels.
Personally i think that MSN,ICQ,AIM,YAHOO aren't fun.

I think Mr. Mootrix Cow wants to know if there are any other programs which will allow him to use MSN, AIM and Yahoo messenger simultaneously instead of trillian. Am I right Sir Sayzak?

Miranda post #8  quote:

Our former network administrator told me there was a free client: Miranda, published on GPL licence and thus available in source code.

It has plug-in architecture: your install plugins for each instant-messaging protocol you need.

http://www.miranda-im.org/

But such programs rarely have all the features of original client programs...

But in this case your code them yourself...

I know gaim is also under GPL, but it is much better, since you don't have to do much tweaking yourself.

I tried Odigo but it seemed to take up too much overhead, it was qute. I have been using Trillian up until a month or so ago. Thing I didn't like about Trillian was that you couldn't carry on a conversation with more than one people. I am now using Gaim. It seems to be pretty stable except that it knocks out my sound card when I chat. Don't know why or how but I have to rest the sound card defaults to get it back. I really like Gaim except I still keep ICQ open because ICQ has so many extra features.

Now what would be nice would be ICQ become a multi IM program.

I take that back, I just downloaded the NEW ICQ and installed it because they said that you could put your AIM contacts on it which I figured was starting to get closer to a multi IM product. Well AOHell finally did it, they drove a stake into ICQ. ICQ now has ADs, YUK!!! Therefore I am no longer a supporter of ICQ and will not use it. I will keep my ICQ ID and use it on GAIM.

Well this explains why my ICQ won't work anymore. It won't allow me past the horn sound it makes. It says I have to go upgrade to the new one, and it refuses to let me use my old version. I shut it down and didn't update it.

Now I know why they are forcing the upgrade. You just saved me the headache of upgrading.
