Nobody has mentioned this but how did Jon know that loved
ones were coming (the others certainly looked surprised)
and Jon telephoned his friend to get him to lie about his grandmother.
actually in every survivor the loved ones come back. so he could have planned it out way ahead of time. the only reason the survivors are shocked when they see there loved ones is because they havnt seen them in so long but they all know there coming in the show its just when are they coming that they dont know. also if you notice john wispered into his friends ear before asking about his grandmother. so he could have told him there as well. the calling thing isnt even a possibility.
Nope... Jon told his friend about this before the game ever started.
He told him that if he was brought on, he was going to ask him that question, and to say that she died.

This is taken from the Survivor website, off of CBS.com
Back at Balboa, Jon and his buddy, Dan, celebrated the fact that their deception had gone off without a hitch. In a preplanned move, Jon had had Dan lie about his grandmother's demise. "My grandmother's sitting home watching Jerry Springer right now," Jon smiled.

I used to be so mad at Jon and hated him. Still do, actually.
But after 30-some days the tribe has not wised up to him and they vote Tia out instead. Doh. After last night's vote, I said "What the hey, these morons DESERVE the smarmy little punk. "
I still dislike Jon, but I gurdgingly admit that he playing the game for all that it is worth.
Was the "dead Grandma" bit over the top? I think so, but that's just my opinion.
BTW, am I the only one who thinks the show's producers might be engineering some of the actions of the cast... err, contestants?
