I have NO clue if they are, but I heard they're making a Hobbit movie!I tried to read the Simmarillian, but it was to boring.
Even though i am a BIG fan of elves, especially Legolas!
heh...i read the Sillmirillion...yes its hard to get into but if you ever wanna know all the backstory for LOTR its just fascinating. it'd be kinda hard to make into a movie...for the sole reason that its largely a group of somewhat short stories that are are all somewhat loosely.
Love is a very powerful force, especially when its formed into a coherent beam of death.
OMG! too cooool! i'd like to see how they'll put that one into a movie, though... I mean, the book is more like an additional reading for true (and patient) fans only. Not too many action - so i hope they put emphasis on the legend-style the book is written in. if they make the movie in the first place. who should be the director/actors/???
I don't know where you heard that, but let me assure you it won't happen. The silmarillion is a great book, but reads more like a collection of short stories rather than a single story with a linear progression. The lord of the rings has a linear progression with the same characters and the same mission throughout, and even it is difficult to follow for those who haven't read the book. I think wishful thinking is the genesis of that rumor.
However, i read that Peter Jackson himself has said he wants to do the Hobbit at some point in the future. For tolkein fans out there, i think this is the best we can hope for regarding further films.
The problem about doing that is the movie has to explain what a silmaril is, which means it has to explain where it came from, which means it has to explain about the two trees and the undying lands, which means it has to explain about the Noldor and their vow against Melkor, which means it has to explain who Melkor is, which means it basically has to recite a bunch of history just so people would understand the premise.
Although as a tolkien fan i would absolutely love to see it, unfortunately those jerks in hollywood don't make movies that can only be appreciated by a small demographic.
What they should do is make the silmarillion anyway and then charge 50 bucks a ticket, i'd still go. Until then though, i'll look forward to the ROTK and hope for the hobbit.
Very true. They would have to explain a ton of stuff. I just though it was the best story in the book. I would love to see it, so I do hope someday......
I am waiting for the Hobbit. I think it will be wonderful.
Oh and JRKIV, you are the Tolkien expert! I still have a hard time remembering all the stuff in the Silmarillion. I am quite impressed with your knowledge.
It would never happen. The Silmarillion was just the musings of Tolkien for the history of Middle-Earth put into a book by his son. It has a structure but it would be too hard to make into a movie script.
"there's only one way to win a war: shout, shout, and shout again!" - The Duke of Wellington ((Blackadder - Stephen Fry))
There is too little dialogue. For it all to be scripted with dialogue etc. it would be about 50252 hours long
"It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step into the Road, and if you don't keep your feet, there is no knowing where you may be swept off to."
Bilbo Baggins
I am a member of several Tolkien related groups, and I have heard nothing about them making a movie version of Silmarillion. No one would go see except really die hard Tolkien fans.
