There are many theories going around as to explain the meaning behind persephone's kiss. I know this is a reloaded topic however i feel their kiss is signifigant in both M2 and M3. Here are some ideas i have collected from people, feel free to criticize any theorys i have presented.
1) Persephone could be Merovingian’s trinity. Many of you have suggested that The Merovingian was indeed the first "One". persephone loved him but now he has neglected her and she wishes to experence an emotional kiss from Neo to remeber how "it was."
2) Perhaps Persephone is a good program who believes in helping the human race, she kiss's him to probe into his thoughs and to truly make sure he is the one, by doing so knows who he is and allows him access to "the key maker"
3) All those associated with Neo "in a good way' have found a greater meaning to their existance and have found freedom from the Matrix. Persephone knows that programs are deleated all the time she wishes to get close to Neo in order to find individuality and avoid being terminated.
4) I like this explanation the most. Persephone in Greek myth was held captive by Hades in the underworld. Perhaps she is being help captive by the Merovingian; she despites him and because of this helps Neo.
5) Many people think that the cookie which "The Oracle" gave Neo was a program which contained the source code, maybe Persephones kiss was a means of passing on another program to help Neo on his journey.
6) last one; Persephones was programed to feed of others emotions and she was feeding of the greatist of all emotions love. This theory is consistant with her reasoning beind helping Neo aquire "the key maker" by doing so she unsets Merovingian and she once again feeds of his anger.
first off, there is NO WAY the Marovingian was the first "one." He is a program, and could not have helped to repopulate Zion. remember, the one was designed to feel love for all humanity, while the Marovigian definately does not.
Remember, "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar." I think some people are looking for too much meaning. The first time I heard what the architecht had to say, I was looking for meaning so much that I missed the simple truth to it all. After seeing revolutions, that conversation seems much more straight forward and less complicated.
All I do know for sure, is that Persephone is kind of an emotional vampire. She feeds off of others emotions, and there probably isn't much more too it. In the movie, she is a means to an end. But who knows, I could be wrong.
Is there really a difference between programs and humans? The argument that The Marovingian could indeed be the first "One" due to the simplicity that he is a program isint too stong. If you remeber Smith occupyed Bane, when Neo was in the train station he wasent linked to the matrix through a hard line. So could it not be possible that a mind can be copyed and still remain in the matrix despite having a host?
One very good reason that the Marovingian could not be one of the previous "ones," was when he was talking to Neo, he said: "You know, your predacessors had much more respect."
i believe that there is a deeper meaning behing persephone's kiss than because she has forgotton the emotion love. There are many other examples that prove that the mouth can be a means of transfering and accessing information, The oracle gives a cookie in the Matrix and a lolly in M2 and to release Neo from the Matrix he sallows a pill. There is definitely more to kiss!!!
It is also possible for Marovingian to be the original "one" As persephone says that they moved there from another matrix. Who says it wasn't one from of the previous matrix's???

I say Merv is not a previous one because he himself says neo that " mark my words boy, I have survived your predeccessors. That explains he not a previous one.
There is nothing that proves he wasnt a previous one from the previous 5 or 6 matrixes.
He could have been the original one or one of the next few and survived with his mind detached from his body and turned into a profiteer... theres nothing factually wrong with this and nothing wrong in his statement that hes survived the other ones.
I however think its highly unlikely and not likely to be the case in context.
Theres no reason for him to be a previous one and he displays no extraordinary powers.
