here's my theory....its probably been posted before, but this is my take on it anyways:
quote: The Architect - Please. As I was saying, she stumbled upon a solution whereby nearly 99.9% of all test subjects accepted the program, as long as they were given a choice, even if they were only aware of the choice at a near unconscious level. While this answer functioned, it was obviously fundamentally flawed, thus creating the otherwise contradictory systemic anomaly, that if left unchecked might threaten the system itself. Ergo, those that refused the program, while a minority, if unchecked, would constitute an escalating probability of disaster.
and the translation to make it all make sense:
Persephone stumbled upon a solution whereby nearly 99.9% or all test subjects accepted the chance to kiss her, as long as they were given a choice, even if they were only aware of the choice at a near unconscious level. While this answer functioned, it was obviously fundamentally flawed, thus creating the otherwise contradictory systemic anomaly, that if left unchecked might threaten the system itself. Therefore, those that refused to kiss her, while a minority, if unchecked, would add to the probability of disaster because they would not have the choice/knowledge of what to do.
hmmmm, ive almost proved myself wrong, not a big fan of the architects impressive language, it confuses me...
If she was the mother of the Matrix, then she'd be a rather insignificant mother, as she only appears in one scene in Revolutions : in Club Hel. Perhaps not too fitting that the mother of the Matrix would end her involvement in the trilogy by appearing in a S&M club? (*whip*.... *whip*)

I'd say the Oracle is a *much* more fitting bet. The Oracle is all about choice - I can only show you the door, you have to go through it... You've already made the choice, you just have to understand it... Etc. Etc.
The Oracle works in ambiguity and abstractions... This is a stark contrast to the logic and precision of the Architect. I'd say the most important part of the quote you posted above is missing... It's the part where Archie's still talking just before Neo interjects with "The Oracle?"
I've posted this in the past, and rather than dig it up or link you to the post, I'll just say it again.
When Neo says "The Oracle?", and the Architect says "Please" that *does not* necessarily mean that Neo was wrong. There are a few possible reasons -
1. The Architect is miffed that Neo would interrupt him in the middle of his little "anomaly soliloquy(sp?)" so he says "Please (allow me to continue"
2. In addition to that, the Architect never corrects Neo who he IS talking about if it's not the Oracle, and he continues his sentence with "she" - never changing the subject. Surely, a mind so bound by the parameters of perfection would make sure the person he was talking to knew who he was talking about.
3. He refers to the mother as an "intuitive program" - I'd say that the Oracle definitely fits that description - intuition is a way of seeing things without necessarily knowing the whole picture
4. "Please" sounds annoyed... I bet it really burns the Archie's A$$ for all these pathetic humans to think of this program that "stumbled" on the solution to his problem as an Oracle... So that should read more like...
Architect: Please - can't you see I'm in the middle of something here? "The Oracle" is just a badly written program that happens to be able to help you pathetic people out with your cause ... as I was saying, she stumbled upon a solution whereby nearly 99.9% of all test subjects accepted the program, as long as they were given a choice, even if they were only aware of the choice at a near unconscious level.
Neo: What you been doing? You look great!
Architect: Eating Chicken... Ergo... Inexorably, Bla Biddy Blah... Try my extra crispy.
Excellent exposition, InsJustin. I hope everyone who thinks Perse is the mother reads this thread once and for all.
Also, from a purely aesthetic point of view, who appears more motherly, the Oracle or Perse? The Oracle bakes cookies and always talks in a motherly beat-around-the-bush sort of fashion, while Perse is usually dressed in a tight latex outfit, carries a gun with silver bullets in her purse and kisses every young man AND woman she can lay her hands on.

InsJustin has nailed it The architect has issues - it is still cracking me up everytime i hear him say:
"The first Matrix i designed was quite naturally perfect, it was a work of art - flawless, sublime. A triumph equaled only by its monumental failure." huh? blah blah blah "I was again frustrated by failure. i have come to understand that the answer eluded me because it needed a lesser mind ... less bound by the parameters of perfection." Oakey Dokey - this guy has major delusions and needs his logic subroutines rewritten -why does Neo believe him? I guess because its true that normally the prophecy is just a control - that part was true -but can't Neo see that something is fundamentally wrong with the architects story and that things are different this time? and it didn't begin with smith's problems - i think he's a complication - it began with the oracle in my opinion.
BAAA, good point. But then again if we extended this rationale to every circumstance, then it wouldn't make much sense. Example : Neo isn't the One since it's obvious he is; Morpheus isn't human as it's obvious he is; the Architect is human as it's obvious he isn't, etc. etc.

"The learning and knowledge that we have, is, at the most, but little compared with that of which we are ignorant" - Plato
When the Architect says, "Please", he's not stating that Neo is wrong, what he's saying is, "is that what you call her?". The architect interprets "Oracle" as a prophet or someone that can tell the future, which he rebutes by saying that she stumbled upon a solution whereby nearly 99.9% of all test subjects accepted the program.
I did a little research on the Greek Oracle at Delphi, often consulted when determining anything from the harvest to war strategy during the peak of that civilization. Turns out her "visions" were caused by gasses trapped in the rock below the site where the Delphic Temple was constructed. The temple happens to be directly above two intersecting fault lines - gas seeping up from these fault lines would produce a euphoric state similar to a reaction to inhaling ether...
Wonder if the Oracle's been making whipped cream?

How can a thread be entitled "Persephone is undoubtably the mother of the matrix" and contain no spoilers? if she is undoubtably the mother of the matrix, that would, indeed make this a spoiler. Therefore a more correct title may be "Persephone is possibly the mother of the matrix" or "Persephone might be the mother of the matrix, in my opinion"
Just something to think about.

I don't really see why Persephone would be considered as the mother of the Matrix, besides the fact that the architect said "please". But InsJustin nailed it and drove any doubt away. While I was watching Revolutions I thought that Sati may in some way be the mother of the Matrix. When Agent Smith is coming, Sati asks if she'll see the oracle tomorrow, and the oracle says I hope so. But at the end of the movie I didn't think this was true, since it was a very small part and the girl seemed to unknowing to be the mother of the matrix. It is definitely the oracle.
Kevin: Remember that one time when I ate those napkins?
Me: (laughing) Yeah.
Kevin: That was funny. Do you remember what made me do it?
Me: I'm pretty sure you just said, "Hey, watch me eat these napkins".
Kevin: (laughing) Yeah, that sounds about right.
I think persephone was a previous trinity - but the program tried to fall in love but couldn't - that's why the oracle made sure this time by making trinity (a human) fall in love with neo although it harder than just programming someone like persphone to try and love.
