Smile Neo's flight speed post #1  quote:

This is dorky, and I'm sorry if someone's already posted this, but the DVD reveals how fast Neo can fly.

When Neo is in the mountains before the freeway chase scene, he asks Link where Morpheus and Trinity are. Link replies, "500 miles, due south."

It takes 13 minutes and 36 seconds from that point to when Neo catches Morpheus and the Keymaker.

13.5 minutes/60 = .225 hrs

500 miles/.225 hrs = 2222 mph

That's about 2.8 times the speed of sound.

That's kind of a little fast. Faster than I can run, actually.

i like the way you think cuyler. we don't see neo for so long during this section of reloaded when we finally see him i will no longer think to myself "it's about time", i'll think "wow, that was fast".

Hmm, now I don't mean to nit-pick, but I read somewhere that travelling at such speeds would physically Rip A Man's Genitals Off. *ouchie*

Thats what is said under regular physics laws.
Again hes in the Matrix, he can fly, move faster, stop bullets.

A big question with his flight speed was when he saved Trinity. According to physics if Neo caught Trinity at that speed when she falls at that speed wouldnt he rip her in half?
Again, were in the matrix, normal laws dont apply

Yeah, I don't think your genitals would be ripped off as long as you accelerated and decelerated gradually, and didn't make any sharp turns - just imagine riding in a really really really fast jetfighter
But yeah, under normal laws of physics, Neo would have probably damn near disintegrated Trinity and turned her into gooey particles by flying through her. Then again, he could've slowed down a bit to catch her, who knows And after all, he can do whatever he wants, without caring what physics says. After all, physics says that you can't just fly at will, too

the matrix is a dream world and neo is a master mind that can control his "lucid" dream therefore gravity and speed does not apply there. didn't you ever fly in your dream? is that air you are breathing?!!

post #8  quote:

Well if Neo can manipulate his hand to go through Trinity's body without killing her, maybe it's possible he can change every particle around him so that Trinity isn't going from zero to 2222 in 0.001 seconds. Maybe Trinity's body is prepared for the sudden change of course? I think where theere's Neo, there's a way.

ps -- remember in M1 when Neo says: "I'm not the one Trinity."

Trinity: "What? That's impossible"

Neo: "The oracle told me I'd have to make a choice..."

Compare that to:

Neo: "The prophecy was a lie"

Morpheus: "I don't believe that"

Neo: "Someone told me, it doesn't matter who, I believed him"

(And what did that "someone" give him? A choice.)

If we fallow the same heroic hollywood ending style, something like this should happen:

Neo goes to the machine city, plugs into the matrix and fights Smith but DIES (Just like in M1). In doing so he saves Zion just in the nick of time, by either destroying the machine network with his mind, or halting the attack by killing Smith.

The machines drop to the ground and everyone is convinced...

Morpheus: "The prophecy is true"

Neo goes down in history as "the one" -- the only people who know the truth are the people on board the Neb who are still alive. All of Zion still has faith.

An extra, bonus, happy ending would be:

Neo wakes up in the REALLY REAL world (MwM) and realizes (through some speech by a cyborg or something) that he can't wake anyone up in the REAL world because doing so would absolutely disrupt the system between Zion and the Matrix causing a crash in the system (destroying the human race).

*I know this is full of holes and errors but I'm having fun, sue me*

Neo's choice? Well... I have a feeling where ever he is that he'll be dropping hints that he's still alive somehow, somewhere. Like when the City of Zion has grown to 400,000 people, morpheus will be happily sitting in his thrown as the main cheese of Zion, in front of a computer, and Neo will drop a line

"Do you ever get that feeling... like your dream became a reality? What if your reality became a dream?"

End transmission.

Please pardon my pseudo-intellectuaphilisophicalismysiticality.

You would think that if neo was travelling almost three times the speed of sound that he would have made a sonic boom when he took off, that would have been cool.
Anyone else notice how calm neo looked when he was racing to save trinity.

Yes, but then again does he ever looked panicked in reloaded? Well there was the time when one of the Smith's lands a punch on him and Neo goes flying back... Although that's more of a "What the hell" look.

cuyler_d .....
I also did this little test.... I wondered if anyone else had which is how I found this forum...Seems like its only us two....

Unlike you *perhaps* I alowed extra time based on hypothisis because of all the slow motion that they do!!!..... thus neo was a lot quicker than you think. he was quicker than 13.5 mins

My calculation came to
3714 km/h
Mach 3!!!...well close enough bit over acually...but like I said....I could only guess

Its prety close to 3x the speed of sound

the speed that neo flies at @ end of reloaded was probably 2 or 3 times faster than that..... unfortunatly cant do any calculations

Now that's something I didn't notice martian. Nice thinking, of course 2222 is a much easier number to remember.

Kevin: Remember that one time when I ate those napkins?
Me: (laughing) Yeah.
Kevin: That was funny. Do you remember what made me do it?
Me: I'm pretty sure you just said, "Hey, watch me eat these napkins".
Kevin: (laughing) Yeah, that sounds about right.
