I think it was one of the hellraiser movies... I'm not sure which one, but they're always pretty gory and the first movie series that comes to mind when I think of gore.... so that's my answer.

Hmm... the Exorcist one with the crucifix is pretty disturbing, but it doesn't really go under gory Texas Chainsaw Massacre was pretty bad in a few places though

There's a Japanese film called The Audition about a seriously disturbed young woman who was picked up by a middle-aged man whilst undertaking auditions for his film which he was producing. The film got rave reviews when it was released 2 years ago. It's definitely one of the goriest and disturbing films of all time. The goriest scenes had to do with physical torture - very gruesome! I dare anyone to watch it and not feel disturbed by it.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the original one) was also quite gory, and Kill Bill vol. 1 is pretty gruesome but done in a silly way.
I thought the gore in Starship Troopers was pretty good, in a bad way, if you know what I mean. The dead people were so obviously dummies with pig intestines in them and tomato sauce squirted over them, it was just funny.
Not really gory, but the Final Destination movies are good for the main death scenes especially the opening sequences. They go into good detail and make it all look real. Also I think it is called Ghost Ship, where everyone gets cut in half by that wire at the beggining. That is pretty gory and gross.
Nothing beats Anime for gore though, always good to watch people getting ripped in half and their intestines pouring out in cartoon form. Those guys just have such good imaginations for how to draw good gore.
