| Posted by: Kookaburra | | I'm looking for feedback on what people like and don't like about the hospitality business. I'm planning a B&B from the ground up, including design.
Even simple things like toiletries and thread count on linens would be nice.
What types of ammenities would you suggest? Here's a list of things I would like:
Weight room/gym
Dance studio
Pool
Sauna
Hot tub
Business center
Bakery

| Posted by: Lawless | | Can I just say... WOW! All those things in a B&B? That's really nice, Kooka. You will attract a lot of business with those ammenities. People will like to have those extra things for relaxation.
You stated that you live in Georgia, right? I really don't know anything about that state... but are you building in an area where you could offer some nature classes? Taking people on guided hikes, etc... | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Kookaburra | | There's a catch to all those things in the B&B.... *grin*... I'll be living there so I want to have my dream house, which is a mixture of house/hotel. Believe it or not, I actually enjoy hotels. I lived in one for about 8 months one year, and 3 months another year. I like the services you get with them, and you don't have to clean! I look back now and realize I was paying more than a mortgage would cost in a month, but it was fun and I would do it again, except I have a house now.
I'm going to give my house to my mother and build a B&B on about 300 acres or so. There will be plenty of nature trails, and I'm thinking about a mini golf course too. There will also be a private landing strip. I'm a student pilot. I want to land close to home so why not just make a strip. Also business executives will want a place to stay where they can bring their planes and have transportation waiting for them.
Here's a new idea for a forum! Aviation (but not in sports and rec as it's more than that) | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lawless | | Once again... wow!! That just sounds so amazingly awesome. And the fact that you can just "give" your house to your mother, and buy this land.... 300 acres. You've been blessed in more ways than one, girl.
All these ideas of what you want to put on your land... it's WAY more than a B&B... this is a retreat center. You're going to have a chapel and services, and weddings too, right? You can have churches book retreats on your property. You could have marriage groups, or singles (women or men) groups. You could have a kids retreat time too.
The options are really limitless, especially if you have the money to go for this goal.
That's great that you're flying too. A land strip would allow you to have a business conference fly in and have meetings and relaxation too.
ps... send a pm to Marc about that Aviation forum idea. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: gaboman | | I don't think B&B's are about theatres, most women would be losing their husbands/partners every 2 minutes.... hmm...
With all that land, I'd suggest a roller coaster.
Well, maybe a tennis court. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: krazykutie | | Exactly fuscia, but I would love some yoga sessions and, perhaps, a mini-zoo. Hey, just my idea of a good time. | | Reply To this Message

A mini-zoo? Hmmmmmmmmm, how does 27 parrots, 2 iguannas, umpteen Canadian geese, ducks, herons, hummingbirds sound?
What else should we add? I was thinking of some peacocks but maybe people will want more than birds. How about a monkey? (just kidding)
I think giant fish tanks would be nice in the quiet areas. The entrance will have a koi pond.

| Posted by: Lawless | | Kooka, no matter WHAT you do, I KNOW that it's going to be beautiful.
Can't wait to see this place, once it's brought to completion!
Got my suitcase already packed... just waiting for the green light.
I don't know about the mini-zoo though. I mean, you already have enough animals. It could get REALLY big. Oh well. Get more animals, and bring Heidi in to take care of 'em. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: krazykutie | | Totally love animals, so I thought a mini-zoo would be lots of fun, especially for children, and the monkey does sound like a good idea. : ). | | Reply To this Message
