Michael Meacher British minister speaks about Iraq |
| Posted by: DaveDom | | Just in case anyone missed Michael Meacher's recent article about Iraq and much more, here are the most interesting bits, well worth repeating. Meacher was in Tony Blair's government for six years until June this year. Many of the quotes Meacher used are taken from the document: "Rebuilding America's Defense" written by Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Jeb Bush and Lewis Libby in September 2000 a full year before 9/11.
| quote: |
while the unresolved conflict with Iraq provides the immediate justification, the need for a substantial American force presence in the Gulf transcends the issue of the regime of Saddam Hussein.
[the US must] discourage advanced industrial nations from challenging our leadership or even aspiring to a larger regional or global role" (from an earlier document from Wolfowitz and Libby).
It describes peacekeeping missions as "demanding American political leadership rather than that of the UN".
It also hints that the US may consider developing biological weapons "that can target specific genotypes [and] may transform biological warfare from the realm of terror to a politically useful tool".
It spotlights China for "regime change", saying "it is time to increase the presence of American forces in SE Asia".
11 countries provided advance warning to the US of the 9/11 attacks. Two senior Mossad experts were sent to Washington in August 2001 to alert the CIA and FBI to a cell of 200 terrorists said to be preparing a big operation (Daily Telegraph, September 16 2001). The list they provided included the names of four of the 9/11 hijackers, none of whom was arrested.
It is also reported that five of the [9/11] hijackers received training at secure US military installations in the 1990s (Newsweek, September 15 2001). |

The job of these people is to protect Amercian interests and America's position in the world. They were not elected by the world and do not serve the world - but you probably had that one figured out.
I'm sorry we don't all live on a planet where everyone loves each other and fights for the common good of all mankind, but that's the way it is. The real world is that countries protect their own interests while paying some heed to the state of the world as a whole. | | Reply To this Message

So, by your reasoning, 911 was for the good of the American people. The job that these people have taken upon themselves, is not to work for the good of America, but to work for the good of themselves.
911 happened as a direct result of what your government has been doing, so how is this good for America?

If this was clearly known by the public then maybe we could actually have something closer to real democracy.
The reason we are constantly lied to by politicians is that they know they would not get any public support if they told the truth. So we get things like "freedom" and "liberty" and "war on terrorism" and "war on drugs" and "war on crime" and all the stupid buzz-words that politicians just love to use that stop people from actually thinking about what's going on. And we end up with - "Oh, it's all about liberty. I guess it must be okay then."
