| There is considerable debate in South Korea on the best approach to dealing with the North. There are hardliners, but most people seem to want a concilatory approach. There is a reason why the film Joint Security Area was so popular -- it showed that North and South Koreans have more in common than many Americans and others can understand.
I've found two articles very useful in a) understanding the options we as Americans have available to us and b) the sensibilities of South Koreans and Chinese on the issue.
1- North Korea is a greater threat than Iraq according to Chinese scholars

2- Weapons experts and political scientists on the North Korean nuclear challenge

I'm anxious to hear what others think of the ideas presented in these two articles. Be sure to check out the chronology and political propaganda posters that are linked to the second article -- quite outrageous. | |
