To hell with humanitarianism! |
| Posted by: NothingSacred | | Sure many will be killed, suppose we say "To hell with those rag heads!" We just don't care if they live or die.
OK, Even if that's our 'tude, what about something near and dear to the good ole USA? MONEY$$$
Am I the only one who's concerned that the deficit and unemployment are going to shoot through the ozone layer and the stock market will bore to the core of the earth, if terrorism increases and we're stuck paying to rebuild Iraq and occupying it for the next 20 years? And this is the environment that GWB wants to institute huge tax cuts in? Sure, I don't want to pay taxes either, but I don't want to bankrupt the federal govt. and Social Security too....think man! This war might be fiscal suicide?

| Posted by: Sean Kelly | | Yeah.. I wasn't too keen on the sound of that budget either.. but then again, neither were a LOT of people.. that's where "checks & blanaces" come into the system - I don't think it's going to fly as is..
Anyway, there is also money in resurrecting that country because, once established and rejoined to the world of International markets, that'll be just one more, VASTLY desaturated market in which American corporations may conduct business: this spells "economic stimulus". The same can be said for Afghanistan where they were just recently permitted to finally join the Internet: LOTS of business potential there with wiring up the country and building an IT infrastructure, related education, job creation, derivative businesses, etc.. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: NothingSacred | | YES! HELL YES!!! They are in it for the money...but not for the average American, you see that would be socialism. Bush, Cheney and all their good buddies will CLEAN UP and CA$H OUT big time on this war. I'm talking about the effect it will have on the average person, the federal budget and the economy. You notice how Bush doesn't care about the defecit anymore? Why is that...because he's shipping the money to where he wants it to go...wise up, this war is for profit, but the average guy is going to pay for it, while Bush and his buddies CA$H OUT.

I wouldn't be so sure that this is the case. Though his budget is indeed deeply in the red, he has a couple things to grapple with right now, not the least of which is a floundering American economy. His hopes rest in tax relief being able to kick-start business and hence the economy - some additional deficit today may be vastly offset by a booming economy tomorrow where the budget may hten be re-addressed.
At least, that's how I figure they're positioning themselves..
