All until the release of the Goblet of Fire, no one was thinking about the non-British wizard world. Now things have changed. There are other famous wizarding schools like Durmstrang, and we know there are wizards living in all the countries of the world.
So... what do you think, how many wizards and witches are there, altogether, do they live like the british wizards or more like their Muggle compatriots? Do you think there's a wizarding school in your country? Where exactly would it be?
--and stuff like that--

Well that's obvious but... let's say, you Nion are from Romania right? Do you think there's a school in Romania or wizards from Romania go to Durmstrang (since it's in the eastern europe)? is there a school in each country or only in some?

The quidditch world cup help about 100,000. I would estimate about a million witches and wizards worldwide. I agree with Nion, I don't think they would live near muggles. I think there are Hogsmead like villages all over the world.

Since the U.S. is so large, I think we would have 2 schools. I imagine a good location being in Alaska or the northern Pacific coast. Loads of giant redwoods, crystal blue lakes.........ect. Then again, a school down south in the bayou would be too cool. The whole Salem witches thing is too obvious, boring.
Just my thoughts.

You know, about Salem... i would've swear i've read something about Salem Witchraft Institute in book 4... when they are on the quidditch world cup, and there are all those tents, one of them is occupied by a group of wiches from that institute.

Maybe in some countries, like America, wizards are more connected with muggles. I don't think they live in some kind of ghettos, except maybe a few of them. And it's all hidden by wizards that co-operate with NSA, or something like that.
Muggle presidents, kings, etc. probably know about wizards. I mean united kingdom prime minister knows about them... it was mentioned in book 3, Fudge alarmed *?Thatcher?* or whoever when Sirius escaped.
So i guess it's another *Government denies knowledge* thing ha? ;-)

I agree with Sherry. I could definately see a school in the northern pacific, and even up in Alaska. There would be so many places for them, and they would have great cover, and there wouldn't be a lot of Muggles coming through to find the school.

Hmmmmmmmm... in the Bayou, eh? I'm thinking, Anne Rice about right now. In New Orleans. Oh man... Cajun Wizards! Oh yeah... I can so see that.

I don't think that they would have it in Salem for the same reason as Sherry stated. It would be too obvious to the muggles. Better to put it where it wouldn't even be thought of in the first place.

As for Fudge alerting to Thatcher... just because he warned her about Sirius, so that the muggles would be on the lookout... that doesn't mean that she has ANY clue, or indication, into the wizarding world. She could think that Fudge is a high official of a countries secret service, and wouldn't ask questions.

My idea is that the Salem Witchcraft Institute is more of a political organization.

I agree with you on that. I can't see the wizarding world letting the muggles know about them. That would be too risky.

Hey... how about in the Montana mountains? There's so much territory, and it's beautiful up there. I would go there and be a professor in a heart beat.

I was just reminded, by him, that the bayou was my husbands idea. He also thinks all the wizarding folks would live on the 8th Hawaiian island, or Idaho, someplace where there are "hicks", less reporting. Oh, and I thought of Anne Rice also. Cool.

Yeah... Idaho or Montana. North Dakota too!!! There would be a lot of area where people wouldn't come in to. And, because they magically cover all the castles/schools, to appear as abandoned buildings, or whatever else they want, they could put a school anywhere.

You know, I think the North American school would have U.S. Students as well as Canadian. Yes or no?

Yes, I think that there would be Canadian students, maybe even some from the islands of Hawaii. And, what about Mexico too?

Hawaii yes, Mexico, no. I just don't see a bi-lingual school. I imagine a cool "central/south american" school somewhere deep in the jungle.

You know ((this might sound crazy)), I have this imaginary character in my head, and she lives in a family that's like an American version of Malfoys. Only instead of house-elves, her family 'employs' illegal Mexican immigrants as house maiden and they keep them almost as slaves. In this fantasy i have, wizard-Mexicans escape to the US as often as their muggle compatriots do. So if that's how things would work, at least some wizard schools would have to be bi-lingual, so the immigrant kids could get an education.
I don't think folks from Mexico would go to USA just to get an education though. The jungle idea is great, Fuscia! Hagrid would've enjoyed there

Oh yeah... deep in the Brazilian jungles. That would definately be a place for a school. And I know that Hagrid would love it there. All the creatures for him to just gather and love!!!!
