| Posted by: KittyMinky137 | | I was in my little twon of Essex, wandering around, then I went for a ride with some friends (They were stoned ), came back, bought OUR survival needs (Ice cream, candy and pop). We then went to one of my friends house, bought some pizza (Capri was still open! ) and then went home at aboot 10pm...soon after the lights came back on for us. It's more interesting if you were there...lol | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: mymisfit | | Well aren't all of you guys lucky. I was at work with only 15 minutes before closing. I work at a Senior Citizen apartment complex, so that ment I was going no where until the electric came back on. As if that wasn't bad enough, the City I work for has an oil refinery in it. With the lack of electric, I guess something got over heated and they were afraid that it could exploid. So the south end of our City, as well as the southwest part of Detroit, along with areas of other local citys had to be evacuated. Being that the building that I work at had a back-up Generator and we had some light. The people that had to leave their homes were told to come to our building. We had people everywhere, with no food, no water, or anyplace for them to lay down. It was a long night. Myself and my staff walked the halls of the apartment complex as well as the grounds with our flash lights all night. Everyone was ok, but they were scared. By the time the sun came up on Friday morning we had found food and water for everyone, but we still couldn't let them go home. We feed everyone what food we had, and being we were on a boil water status we got as much bottled water as we could find. It was about 2:00 p.m. on Friday when the evac. order was lifted and everyone could go back to their homes. As for me, the electric didn't come back on in the building until almost 8:00 p.m. on Friday night. I went home, and packed my bags and with luck, the airport had opened and I got to take my scheduled vacation to AZ. Talk about needing a vacation, I now know what people mean when they say that.
But a side note to the vacation. When we got there we rented a car. Things were going fine until we needed gas. We soon found out that gas was in very low supply. I guess some kind of pipe broke or something so it was hard to get gas. So I left Michigan after sitting in line to get gas, and then I sat in line in AZ to get gas. But the gas in Michigan was much cheaper then in AZ. Some gas stations were charging 4.99 a gallon. We paid 2.39, and sat in line for 45min. which from what I hear is fast. My dad said he sat in line for over 2 hours.
All I can say is I never want to go through this experience again. | | Reply To this Message
