Creating and Submitting INReview Headers

If you would like to create an INReview header for a forum hosted here that does not already have a replacement header, please review the following guidelines:

1) Submit the work as one image. Do NOT cut it up into separate images - we can do that.


2) The total dimensions for the image should be exactly:

width: 751 pixels
height: 78 pixels


3) In terms of structure for your design, the image should be divided into three main segments from left to right:

a) Header Segment (width: 377 px): This area must contain the "IN REVIEW" logo.

b) Stretchy Middle Segment (width: 6 px): This area will repeat from left to right to account for the viewer's browser width. To do this effectively, typically this area of the image contains a pattern that can be infinitely replicated horizontally or a solid color.

c) Footer Segment : This area needs to identify the forum as follows: "Discussing 'Forum Topic Here'". This should occur no closer than 24 pixels from the top edge of your image.

This area also needs to identify the three butons (Advertise, Suggest Topic, About). The text for these images should be no closer than 6 pixels from the top edge and no futher than 22 pixels from the same edge. The exact coordinates for these buttons are as follows (x,y):

Advertise: 383,6 to 503,22
Suggest Topic: 504,6 to 659,22
about : 660,6 to 751,22


4) Please submit the work as one image in JPEG or GIF format only. We will optimize the image accordingly. These instructions will NOT accomodate FLASH correctly. We are NOT accepting FLASH pieces at this time.


5) Please do NOT submit files with roll-overs.


6) If you wish to identify yourself in your artwork, feel free to do so with "Art: 'Username Here'"). Please do NOT include web site addresses or other forms of advertisements in your artwork.


7) Post images in this thread or email them to: inreview@inreview.com

That should do it! We appreciate anyone who takes the time to submit artwork for a forum! Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that all artwork will be accepted for presentation.

When I was piloting this idea with the HP forum, it was really helpful to use the normal INReview header as a rule for layout and sizing. To do this, I modified the regular INReview header to match the necessary dimentions and layout. Anyone who would like a copy of this image to use as a rule while making your own header creations, please PM me.

(What I'm talking about when I say use as a rule is this - First, open a new PSD in PhotoShop. Create a new layer, and put in the rule image. Then set the opacity way down so you can barely see it, and begin to construct the image under the rule, so you can see sizing and placement of various items.)

Also, don't forget to post your creations here in this forum in addition to e-mailing them to Marc and Sean.

I just made the size up, then highlighted the INReview logo above and copy/pasted it into an E-mail.

Okay, this one is based on the template, and is very basic, but kind of to the point. Almost like the original banner, really I still think it's cute

hey, I really like Hecks! flamers ward banner,

and Gabo's Simpson's banner, the first one he did, revamped a little.



I made one for Lost but, I had to give up. I just can't make it work in Paint. I got everything in the right pixel postion, etc,

but I can't blend the pics, or place pics over other pics, I have to try to use spray paint, and it just looks sucky.

Plus when I save it, it grains out and gets all fuzzy looking.


So I give up, I just don't have the software for it.

I would like for Sayzak to make one, I will pm him with this thread link, and see if he can whip one out.


These are a great idea, so far, we just got the Matrix and Harry Potter,

it would be EXCELLENT if we had one for Lost, the flamers Ward, the Simpson,

the more popular forums.

Iraq, etc.

I don't know, I think if we get all the specs right, the 3 buttons on the right in the right pixel area, so they are clickable,

and leave the 6 pixels in the middle so the banner will expand without looking weird,

and have the Inreview logo where it is clickable,

and everyone kind of agrees it's a good looking banner and that we want it for a forum,

then we can take the next step and private message it to Marc.


He said in the first post, they do something extra to it, break it up into 3 pieces or something,

so I don't think that Fuscia or Lawless can just insert the banner when we get done with it.

I might be wrong on that, just guessing.

Or maybe Mike James can do whatever extra gets done to it.



At any rate, we can mess around in this thread and come up with some, get some that we all like and want to make the effort to get in their respective forums,

and then see what happens.

Here's my first attempt. The buttons on the right are close to clickable, but the "IN" on thel eft side may be off a little bit. Not too bad though... As for getting skewed, well, I'm not sure what to do about that... I used the dimensions givin in this thread, but I can always easily adjust it.

Like I said, this is a first attempt... many more will be on the way in the next couple of weeks.

Well, granted, it had a... err... rustic feel to it... but, you see, Lost is all about the rusticness. On that island, they don't have computers or graphic designers (well, except for that one fellow... I call him Fred), so how obnoxious would it be for us to use such a stylish header?

The answer to that, as well all know, is not very.

Thanks guys, but this was my first attempt... sometimes the first is the one ya go with in the graphic design world, but the effort never stops there.

Unfortunately I'm crunched for time and I have to get to work now, but when I get back later I'll adjust it for the other sized screen people.

Oh, and I'll be creating more banners in my head, believe-you-me.

PS -- Widden, I'm going to use your idea as a layout for one, but maybe I'll... I don't know... blend something.

Looking back at the headers I did... kinda crappy I reckon I could do better now if I had time.

I love the flamer's ward banner.

I wish we had a cool Narnia banner. I am totally into Narnia now.

I love the lost banner, Sayzak... unfortunately, the middle section needs to be tile-able, so we might have to tweak it a little bit. Since way back when, I've lost the PSD file I originally made, but I'll dig it up so I can post it for your reference. The new search bar poses some additional limitations, so lemme see what I can find/modify in the way of templates for yall... stay tuned.

in fact... does anybody have a copy of the template that I may have sent to them a while back...?

I also checked the Gold Members Lounge and it's banner, and the search bar is missing on it as well.


So hopefully, we won't have to worry about that bugger.

What we really need from Marc, if he is too busy, is a general tutorial on what to do to the banner after it is accepted, as far as splicing it into the 3 pieces.


Then I'm sure Kris can insert it with her admin powers. Shouldn't be too hard to do.

Nope... Marc is the only one with that access! So, you're going to have to get his attention.

The old template system didn't work when we added the search bar up there, but now that it's gone, it shouldn't be long till we can release a PSD template for the banner up there. Meanwhile, you can continue to email header images to Marc or me (michael/marc at psyphire.com) and we'll keep them handy.
