| Posted by: willie82839 | | It seems to me that any power that was a threat to the Us, would at least be able to defened there own country for at least a month. We were deceived by the predidents remarks, talking about 911, and saying that Iran was suporting terrorism. Both are true, but are not connected. We are in a war on terrorism, and Sadam has suported terrorism aginst Isreal, not the United States. | | Reply To this Message

Welcome to the forum.
Fighting Terrorism is not limited to a local country and is a global threat to every inocent man woman and child. Every country should be engaged in the war on terrorism, most of those that aren't are sponcers of terrorism. Those that don't fight are ignoring humanities cries. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: willie82839 | | Thanks USA!, I remember the 3 years that I was in
Vietnam, and we were there to prevent the communist from taking over the world, and at the time I believed it. Today I think that Iran was no more of a threat to us, then the Viet Cong were. Saddam, the low life that he is, kept the extremist in check in his country, and now they are coming out of the closet, and it will make that part of the world more dangerous. I served my country for 25 years in the Army, and now work at a VA hospital were I see daily the harm that war can cause on those sent to fight it. War should be the last restart, and it seems to me we have people in high place that just could not wait to attack Saddam. We already had half of his country, and had been disarming him for over 11 years, if we needed to take him out why not bomb the sites were Mr Powell pointed out to the UN that weapons of mass destruction were stored, and bomb him as we done anyway, and try a little harder to get some other countries to send troops if this needs to be done, instead of the token help we got to allow the president to call it a coalition. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: USA1 | | willie,
My brother and I both served in Vietnam at different times.
We should have been allowed fight that war the way it should have been fought. Not with our hands tied behind or back.
My father is in a home for veterans and I visit him quite often. Most are WW2 and Korean vets with only a few from VN.
Both my father and I are DAV and I spent 9 weeks at Travis recouping in the hospital in 1972. I also got to see the carnage from VN.
As I see it, most countries turned their back on Iraq for their own commercial needs while thousands were being murdered.
I have a real problem with the Arab state whose religion condones murder. This is quite different than VN. Like Iraq, there were similar problems in Cambodia and Laos that we didn't bother to look at and they were more serious atrocities than VN.
We can't continue to be big brother when the world turns it's back on us.
Thanks for serving. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Americaaah | | Thanks to both of you guys for serving! (I have not served.) I have a 5-year old son who is the light of my life. I would not want him to serve in the military but I would be proud as hell if he decided that's what he had to do. On the other hand I myself would serve in a heart-beat—I wish I had when I was younger. I know it's easy for me to say now but I believe it to be so. I feel for those who have lost/and will lose loved ones in this conflict. But I am proud of America for its achievement in Iraq. No other nation in the world could have done it as well—or had the conviction (aka "balls") to do it at all. And I have no doubt in my mind that America did the right thing to remove Saddam and to continue to do what must be done in Iraq and the region.

We will always remember.
We will always be proud.
We will always be prepared

Thanks for the support.
MY son and 4 of his friends are all in the Army now. Although my son hasn't been sent to Iraq, 2 of his buddies are with the 4th ID in the Tukrit area searching for the Scumbag. He gets an e-mail about once a week from Iraq.
I would also go back if they would let an old fart carry a gun again. I think our job now is to make our home a better place and let our boys clean up the rest of the garbage over their and I'm very proud of my son and his friends for their dedication. I'm going to throw one hell of a party for them when the get back.
Thanks again and we all need to pray for them and the people of Iraq in that peace will come soon. | | Reply To this Message
