Kobe: Stupid, Arrogant, Ignorant Fool! |
| Posted by: ronnietalk2russ | | BOTTOM LINE: KOBE BRYANT IS NOW A GOLD CARD MEMBER OF THE DUMMY CLUB (INNOCENT OR GUILTY). HE, LIKE MOST ATHLETES, SIMPLY DON'T THINK ABOUT THEIR CAREERS WHEN THEY MAKE ALL OF THESE STUPID DECISIONS. HE'S OBVIOUSLY A B-BALL GENIOUS. BUT I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE WHAT A DUMMY HE IS! IN FACT-HIS STUPID ACTIONS MAKE YOU FORGET ABOUT HIS B-BALL EXCELLENCE. THAT'S HOW DUMB HE IS. HE THOUGHT HE WAS THE MAN. IGNORING SHAQ, HIS FATHER-KOBE WAS HIS OWN MAN, NOT NEEDING ADVICE OR MENTORING FROM OTHERS BECAUSE HE THINKS HE'S ALL THAT JUST BECAUSE HE CAN SHOOT A BASKETBALL-ARROGANT! NOW LOOK WHERE HE'S AT...AND, UNFORTUNATELY, IF THE COURT VENUE ISN'T CHANGED HE'S GOING TO JAIL. PERIOD! DUMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND NO RUBBER USED ON TOP ON THAT. WHAT IF THE CHICK HAD HIV? KOBE IS DUMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

| Posted by: Famester | | I agree that Kobe Bryant is an arrogant stupid man. He was in a hotel room having relations with a stranger.
He was engaging in rough anal sex with a stranger and he was not using a condom.
Only a stupid and arrogant person would think that doing such things have no consequence.
Kobe Bryant is a multi-millionaire professional athlete who is paid millions of dollars in endorsement contracts. He was stupid and risked all of that for 20 minutes of sex with a stranger.
In addition, he was stupid to buy a $4.7 million ring. If he loses all of his endorsement contracts, he's going to have to sell that ring. And no way is he going to be able to get $4.7 million for it. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Jeem | | Vanessa Laine is from a screwed up family and probably also screwed up herself. I see plenty of people saying they can't believe Kobe did a screwed up 19 year old.. well, I still don't understand why he married Vanessa Laine. If I remember correctly, she's also a screwed up teenage girl. Maybe Kobe has a thing for screwed up non-black teenagers. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: ronnietalk2russ | | Exactly, Famemaster. He spent close to 5 million on a ring for a woman whose obviously not going anywhere-he could of screwed ten women in ten states and had ten court cases and she still wouldn't go anywhere. And poor, brainless Kobe. In another testimony of his stupidity, tries to impress the PUBLIC by pulling the "I'm a good husband" move by buying a damn ring. He and the so-called professionals around him could have made sure that the purchase was done quietly but noooooooo-they had to inform allllllllllllll media outlets of the purchase in an attempt to make him look good. TOO LATE BUDDY-YOU SCREWED ANOTHER CHICK IN THE BUTT WITHOUT A CONDOM. He's a wack husband! And he's lucky his wife is an immature chick without goals and a life because if she had some self-dignity she would have exited. The public ring purchase actually makes him look all the more guilty. And if the immature, all-I-think-about-is-a-new-outfit Vanessa had ANY class she would have discouraged the purchase-as if she actually NEEDS another bulging ring-and advised him to focus on his case and PRAY. Pray because a Black NBA superstar up against a popular, church-going small town white girl in ultra-racist Eagle County. No matter how much of a deranged slut this girl is KOBE HAS NO IDEA OF THE MAGNITUDE OF WHICH HE'S IN TROUBLE. I hope he really didn't do it but he's so weird you never know. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Famester | | You're right, Ronnie. Vanessa would still be there whether Kobe spent $5 million on the ring, or $50,000 on the ring. She's not going anywhere except to the nearest shopping mall.
If his advisors had been using their heads, they would have advised Kobe to NOT buy such an expensive trinket for his wife. If he really wanted to do something to gain public relations brownie points, he could have donated to a college scholarship fund, or to a church, an organization that helps the homeless, or an organization that helps women and children.
Instead he shows the world what an empty-headed wastrel he is by throwing away millions on a trinket. Does he even care how many hungry children he could have clothed and fed with the kind of money he spent on a pointless ring?
How many working class poor and low income people could have benefited from the houses built by Habitat for Humanity with the kind of money that Kobe just wasted?
Kobe Bryant is an idiot who deserves to get all of the bad publicity that can possibly come out of this situation. | | Reply To this Message

it is his money. he can do whatever he wants with it.
i hope you're just borrowing someone's computer and internet access. if you're not, do you even care how many hungry children you could have fed with that money?

C'mon Larke2000. That's a cornball response. First of all we all know it's his money. DUH!!!!!!!!! And...Internet access payments=charity loot/donations? Ha, Ha. You can do better than that my friend. Famester is always on point with his/her KOBE commentary. The money ISN'T the point son. The move is the point. And the ring purchase was a STUPID move because if he was really sincere about it he would made sure it was done privately (like he used to do everything else). But it was done for the PUBLIC to demonstrate to us that he REALLY does love Vanessa...despite diving into the risk of giving her AIDS with his exploits. Now, he should of showed his love for her by using a CONDOM and protecting her future health. And the ring loot could of contributed to his trial expenses...or for his family to live off of while he's in jail. That doesn't mean that I believe he's guilty but, as much as I like Kobe's game and hate to see him in this situation, I truly believe he's going to jail. He screwed (no pun intended) up BIG TIME!!!!!!!!!!!! Eagle County vs. a Black dude-oh my God! Athletes and stupity. Is it really a stereotype? If it's only a stereotype Kobe and his brainless actions sure have perpetuated the stereotype for decades to come. Get ready for the Kobe Bryant tragic TV movie. Poor Kobe. He and Vanessa are even sporting enornous diamond CROSSES now (see Teen Choice Awards gear). This situation would drive anyone to GOD.

| Posted by: Mike James | | Actually, Ronnie, the ring was done privately. It was commissioned two weeks before any of his charges came about. The publicity from it came when someone noticed a ring on her finger and started gossiping.... if only he had been thinking about his $5M when a hotel clerk started comming on to him.... | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: ronnietalk2russ | | Sorry Mike. Don't fall for the whole two weeks before scenario. You have to be smarter than that. You have to understand, my friend, that this is a PR battle. I repeat, BATTLE. Think Al Queda. Think Pentagon vs. Iraq. After the ring purchase was questioned/criticized by every cable news show etc. his publicist and others working the damaged KOBE PR machine conjured up the "two weeks before" thing. Notice (I don't know if you read or saw any of the jewelers inital interviews involving the purchase) that NOTHING was mentioned about the "two weeks" until AFTER the move was criticized and people thoerized that the purchase was an action of a "guilty person." Way after. If it was actually orchestrated two weeks before the jeweler would have definitely mentioned it in the initial interviews she gave. Wake up, Mike. It's called DAMAGE CONTROL...and it's nothing new. Furthermore, if recognition if the purchase originated by someone seeing the ring on her finger how the hell did every news outlet know to go and interview the jeweler. Did Vanessa call USA Today and tell them where she got it? C'mon. Think. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Famester | | Ronnie is right. The $5 million ring was a public relations move that backfired.
In all the news reports and newsgroups posts on this, I haven't seen anyone say that the ring purchase was a good move. It did nothing to make the public think highly of him. In fact, it did just the opposite.
Buying a $5 million ring was ridiculous and wasteful. Of course everyone knows that it's his money to waste, but the point is that the purchase shows exactly what type of person he is. He doesn't deserve any sympathy from the public. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Land Warrior | | I have to agree that Kobe is incredibly stupid. That is why I posed the theory in another post that he may be on controled substances. What else could explain his depths of moronic behavior?
As for the money issue: They both seem incredibly materialistic. I mean what normal person can understand the way they drape themselves in diamonds and gold. I think the public is a little tired of the gaudy earrings, crosses, and digit rings. In fact it is amusing that his attorneys told him to take the garbage off for his public humiliation, yet he puts it all right back on the next day. And the ring he bought honey just compounds the negative PR image.
His wife is known for her outrageous acquisition of material goods. It was said that as she watched the World Trade Towers implode on the morning of 9/11, she commented to people in the room, "Oh ****! Now I suppose there will be a delay in the delivery of my new Mercedes!" Kobe can sure pick 'em, can't he?
If there was any indication that Kobe was charitable with his money--and I'm not talking about any phoney foundation Nike set up for him as part of an endorsement. If Kobe on his own established a charitable outlet for his money, my position might soften.
I think what we have here is stupidity, ignorance, arrogance, greed, misplaced priorities, and a lack of maturity. Sure Kobe can plunk a B-ball (possibly with the help of controled substances), but there's more to being a man than that. The B-ball career fades all to quickly, then all you have is your character to stand on into the future. I think Kobe surged out of the gate too fast and too young without establishing a solid character foundation and now he is suffering the consequences. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: ronnietalk2russ | | Well said, Land Warrior. Virtually poetic. There's an excellent latimes.com article on Kobe (dated August 6, 2003) titled "A Life Not Ordinary" that clearly demonstrates how off the court he's just a knucklehead and how we all were duped (by his b-ball excellence) into believing he's intellectually thorough off the court as well. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Jeem | | I don't know about the control substance being the cause for the assault, although it's certainly quite possible. Athletes in general are more aggressive than your average citizen. Why can't Kobe just be a violent and sadistic guy? According to the postings here, 911 paramedics have been call to his residence twice to treat a female... | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: boombox | | I think this was a stupid thing, but who said there was no rubber used?
That sounds like an assumption. It is funny how easy it is to jump to a conclusion like "no rubber used" as if it were a fact.
A rubber may be in evidence. Who knows. He shouldn't have been there. She shouldn't have been there and now their lives are changed forever.
I think that any woman who has been 19 and in a situation with a man late at night in a hotel or any room knows the dangers somewhere in the back of their mind. Even boyfriends or dates may be a risk once things get going. It is a shame that this guy didn't value his life more than to do something like this. But it is pretty typical - nothing too strange for athletes, entertainers, men and even some hyped up women.
This is drama - sex, money, lies w/o video tape. Nothing so unusual or incomprehensible. Ever been to a frat party?
People have to be more responsible if they are not ready for the consequences - male or female.
We'll find out more later. it is just sad all around. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Famester | | Another aspect of this case is the question of why did Bryant summon the hotel employee to his room so late?
Did he just invite her to come to his room, or did he order room service? Witnesses have said that Bryant and the girl were "flirting" with each other earlier in the day.
Bryant should have enough brains to know that a celebrity in his position in going to be the target of people looking for a reason to file a lawsuit against him.
It is totally guaranteed that a civil lawsuit is going to follow the criminal trial. If Bryant is convicted in criminal court, the amount the woman will be able to claim in a civil suit will be larger than if he's found not guilty. But the he *will* be sued in civil court regardless of what happens in the criminal part of the case. | | Reply To this Message

It's difficult to say whether Vanessa is really a gold digger or whether she's just a young girl who was overwhelmed when a rich man fell in love with her.
Vanessa was a 17-year-old girl still in high school when she met Kobe Bryant. Any girl of that age would be dazzled if an NBA star suddenly paid attention to her.
If Vanessa had shown any signs of being a groupie who was trying to hook a famous man -- any famous man, not just Kobe -- then she could be called a gold digger who was just looking to find a sugar daddy to support her.
But it really does look like she was just a high school girl who was swept off her feet by a rich, famous man. And once she got a taste of all that his money could offer her, she grabbed the riches.

Good question Fame. Before the rape charge came into play, I heard (on CNN) that Kobe had called reception to ask for something. It wasn't specified what it was he asked for but the reporter said that it was a routine guest request for something (for example: batteries for a remote control). Anyway, Kate took it up to him...and the rest is tragic history. The CNN reporter mentioned that he didn't ask for her specifically, though. I guess we'll find out in a few months. Fame, did you see the 2-second court hearing today? What did you think about it?

| Posted by: DiamondStatus | | Since so many people have decided to mouth (or type) off about this Kobe issue, I figured I was allowed to state my quick opinion as well. Here you people are, ranting and raving about 8-carat rings, use (or non-use) of protection, Vanessa Laine's main motive for marrying Kobe Bryant, etc.
Are you all aware that it doesn't matter what ANY of us think about this situation? I'm here due to the fact that I am a Kobe fan and his current situation intrigues me. You all are sitting here arguing back and forth, putting each other down, and trying to prove whose "ass is the smartest." I'm not trying to say I'm above any of you, because that would just be contradictory since I'm posting a reply, too, but you really need to calm down with the whole debate thing.
I say, build a fence and get over it. Okay, Kobe's stupid. Fine. Vanessa's a gold digger? Fine. The small town girl is going to win this case? Whatever you say. You all are entitled to your own opinions, just as I am to mine.
My take on it? Only two people will EVER know what REALLY happened in that hotel room in Colorado: Kobe and the girl he slept with. I just hope whomever wins the case is the one telling the TRUTH. It would be horrible for Kobe to go to jail for something he DIDN'T do, and it was be just as horrible for him to NOT go to jail for something he DID do.
Personally, I believe that he's innocent and didn't 'rape' her nor force her to do anything she didn't want to do. But like I stated, it doesn't matter what I think. And in the end, the truth will come out, hopefully, in its own way.
Please don't come at me with any arguments trying to disporve my points or insult my intelligence. I simply stated my opinion and I'm leaving it at that. | | Reply To this Message

I saw all of the replays of the hearing. I thought that it was like a preview of the circus that is sure to follow this case to the end.
There were people who drove hundreds of miles just to get a seat in the courtroom for a 10 minute hearing. Plus media swarmed the town, interviewing every waitress and gas station attendant they could find. The grounds around the courthouse looked like a carnival.
Even though I am not a fan of Kobe Bryant, I think that his lawyers should request a change in venue. The people of Eagle seem a little to eager to milk the trial for all its worth. Plus if the trial is moved to Denver, that would eliminate the possibility of having people on the jury who know the woman, or are friends of the woman's parents, or hang out in the same places as the woman etc.
Yes, Bryant is an idiot who risked everything to have unprotected sex with a girl that he didn't know, but even idiots should have a fair trial.

I agree that the trial should be moved. I believe that Eagle County is fixated on gaining attention and making money (hotels, restuarants, taxis, rent-a-car companies etc.) from the case. It sucks that Kobe actually had to come way out there for two words ("No, sir") because the judge wanted to be on TV. Boy, Eagle County seems to have a lot of people who really want/need attention. It's a small county and there may actually be people on the jury who know this lady or knows someone who knows her-and that doesn't bode well for Kobe. I hope he can get a fair trail but it looks like he won't. I want to say "Poor Kobe" but I can't because I simply don't know what happened. I'm a fan though and its frustrating to see him in this situation. And there's so much hostile residue left from the O.J. case. I'm a little afraid that Kobe may pay for O.J. being acqitted. Afterall, you can't watch/hear a Kobe case segment without someone mentioning the O.J. case. It's so unfair to Kobe in that the two cases have nothing to do with one another.
