In the book the Weasley twins said they had the Marouder map for a long time...with the help of the map wouldn't they have found the passage way to the Chamber of Secrets?

the marauders map was made by Prongs, Padfoot, Moony and Wormtail .. if they didn't know the passageway to the Chamber of Secrets, they couldn't have included it into the map, could they? ..

How right you are, Ineli. They made the map, and could only include what they had found, over time. And, once Jenny was inside the chamber, it wouldn't have shown her on the map.

Harry was the first person that knew where the entrance to the CoS was since Tom Riddle.

okay,that's wrong...think of this why should the map show Crouch if they didn't know him...that has been made to show all passage ways,that means that the will should show any passage way...even if they wouldn't know about it

No... the four guys that made the map had to set it up with what they knew. The map isn't going to show things that aren't there. They would have had to of put any hidden area's in there for it to show. If you think about it... if you have a map that you're making, and it's of the area that you live in, and you don't include certain places on it... than that will never show on the map. You never put it there to begin with.

The map showed Crouch because he was on the grounds of Hogwarts. His body was physically there... and therefore, on the map. Had he been in Hogwarts, but in an unmapped area, than he wouldn't show. That's how it works. The dots reveal the people within the areas of what has been mapped out.

with some cool spell they made the map show all people on the grounds.

i would think that they can only put those hidden passageways on the map that they found out themselves .. if there would be a spell to tell them where secret passageways are, then Dumbledore would know that spell and he could have found the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets much earlier ..

so my guess is that they used an "ordinary" map for the Hogwarts grounds, but put a spell on it to show people ..

i am so curious how the marauders map will look like in the next movie .. i mean, writing down how it shows dots on a map is easy, but showing the seven floors of Hogwarts plus the Hogwarts grounds and the dots in it .. that must be difficult ..

i also thought it to be a little ... weird .. i mean how many people are at Hogwarts during a school year? hundreds, right? .. are they all shown on the map? .. does it stack names around the dormitories? .. hmmmm

I can't wait to see what it will look like in the movie. It will be quite interesting how it will keep from showing hundreds of students all over, and being able to figure out who is where, etc...

will the map be 3d?
