can somebody please help me? my puter is driving me nuts! i'm not sure but i think my stepson has sumpin' to do with it. he download a bunch of games ( without permission ) on it that he got from a friend. where the friend got them i don't know.
i am a real estate appraiser. do do my job i have to go to FEMAs' web site and recieve my flood info. ok, now i have been to this site before with no problems but all of the sudden i'm experiencing problems. i'm no puter genius by no means ( prob. intermiddiate ) so i'll try and explain my problems. by the way there is more than one.
1. internet explorer scipt error keeps poppin up ( i have went to internet explorer, clicked advanced tab, selected disable debugging box, cleared display notification script error box to no avail)
2. when i'm on FEMA, at the bottom of my page ( browser? ) it says error on page. when i'm on the site and click on the map search link it looks like the page is gonna open,it flashes on real fast then disappears. my pointer is a hand. when i click on it my hand starts starts tapping its fingers like its on a table or sumpin and nothing happens. just keeps tappin' for ever.
3. i tried uninstalling his games and i did okay except for one. it said it was unable to uninstall all the components of it. i would have to do it manually. i have no idea how to do this.
4. i have windows xp, emachines puter with 256mb,60gb,56k.
somebody please, please help me.
i'd like to just restore it but i have way to much info on here, besides i haven't even learned how to download it onto a disc yet.
thanks, jim

Learn how to use your burner, copy everything you want to save onto a CD, run the restore, get your virus software up to date by downloading the updates from the manufacturer's website, scan the CDs you saved for virus and then if they are clean, restore you stuff. There are alternatives, but they are even more technically advanced, like taking your hard drive out of your box and scanning it on someone elses computer. Good Luck! | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Larke2000 | | have you tried reinstalling internet explorer? and make sure you have all the internet explorer patches from microsoft as well. as far as the 'manual' part of the uninstall? you'll get this on a lot of games when you uninstall. it probably just means that the programs install directory wasn't deleted. games do this so you can keep your saved game files and stuff. do a virus scan if you have one installed. if not you can go to symantec's web site and they'll do a free one. but only use this in the short term not as an anti-virus software replacement locally on your computer. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Pelphrey | | If you us Windows XP you can simply Click Start: All Programs:Accessories:System Tools:Then Click System Restore.
Click the date before the games were installed and restore. Your system should be as good as new, without any of them junk games on it. | | Reply To this Message

No, no - you don't need to restore and the games are not causing the problem.
You have a POP-UP stopper that is keeping the page from opening when you click on the link.
I've tried it myself at the FEMA web site and clicked on the MAP SEARCH option here:
http://store.msc.fema.gov/webapp/wc...10001&langId=-1
Unless I disable my POP-UP stopper, it won't open the link in the new window as expected.
If you have the widely used program from Panic Software, try holding down the CTRL button when you click on the link. Otherwise, uninstall your pop-up stopper or ask your step-son what key disables it when clicking on a link.
(Note: This will also cause the Javascript error you're seeing at the bottom of the browser.)
