How did it work for you? Did you see any results?

not me but some family members have.. ..and from what I saw it's the ultimate yo-yo

it fails to get you to change your lifestyle and learn to control you appitite so any moment of weakness will result in major weight gains. But it can be affective as a starting point as you can shed quite a bit of weight and eat like a pig. Just need to ween off of the large meals and kick in some fitness to keep it off.

I like the book Protien Power, its about $6 at the supermarket. It is closely related to the Atkins diet as where carbs are evil.

The second has more to do with three things: Skincare, a lean body, and energy:

Dr. Perricones The Wrinkle Cure and The Perricone Prescription

Not only does he produce "cosmeceuticals" he advocates a healthy eating lifestyles which really does work. On top of that, he is an excellent endorsement of his own work.

Could be that the book lacks in dieting motivation, however, from what I've read it doesn't seem to lack in good eating advice.

I think most individuals with degrees in physiology will agree there's the correct way to ingest one's food. And once someone knows that formula, there's nothing else to know. Atkins Diet sounds like it subscribes to that formula. The plan is not just a diet - but a recommended change in lifestyle.

There are good and bad diets - but all of that falls to the wayside when the diet-taker lacks the motivation to follow through.

Yes, the Atkins diet is working. I just wish there were more people in here to talk about it. Until I see another update message, I will save the information. (Don't want to waste typing if there isn't anyone checking this board)

Come on folks :- ) Let's talk CARBS!

Hey! Im getting ready to start the atkins diet *have to do some grocery shopping first* Anyway, I read the book and did my homework but still dont really understand it all. I know how many carbs you can have and so forth, but what all can you really eat. Like whats a typical day of induction for you. If you have any advice I would love to hear it. I really need some help getting started. I have no idea what foods to look for.

I work with a bunch of guys on Atkinson diet. They count carbs like crazy and are always looking up what has how many. All but one of the guys have done amazing well. (I don't think he follows it very well away from the group) Lost and kept off substantial pounds. We are talking keeping it off for a full year. They guys have done so well I have joined with them. Even though I have never limited my carb intake as much as the diet says I have lost 12 lbs and 2" in 2 mths. The thing that helps me most is minium carbs after working hours and on weekends. No bread, pasta, chocolate or the like once I leave the office.

Snacks are often hardboiled eggs, cheese, and summer sausage. The office motto "CARBS ARE EVIL".

Does make it easier when a bunch of people are doing it together.

I've lost about 30 lbs in two months on the diet. My problem is that I feel terrible. I'm taking vitamins but not the fancy supplement packages I'm supposed to. Has anyone else experienced major sickness, ie., sick stomache, headache, dizziness, fatigue, blurred vision, lethargy, strange abdominal pains, etc? I've been trying to find message boards and sites about it and so far have found very little negative side effects...

I went on the atkins diet only for 8 days, i wa sin ketosis from day 2. On the 8th day I started feeling really sick in the stomach, so I stopped, i never weaned myself back on to carbs I went on them full throttle, but for a week since I stopped, i have been exhausted all the time, my stomach is bloated, and I cant eat bread, everytime I eat bread I just feel sooo sick.

Do u think all these symptoms are because of the diet?
Silly me was already sick with a massive ear infection when i started the diet.

I didn't like the Atkins diet but I lost about 10 lbs. The diet that worked well was a little bit of work. I did the best by counting calories and fat with a little note pad. No more than 1400 calories and no more than 40 grams of fat a day. Eat what you want but limit it to 1400 calories and 40 grams of fat. (Male) I think my wife was 1200 and 30 grams. If you walk or jog you can eat more. If not you have to eat less. It takes reading labels, getting cookbooks that tell you calories and fat, getting the cooking lite magazines etc.
Try the ice cream that has no fat. Be aware, be very aware of how many servings. You can buy something that says it's low in fat and calories but if you eat double the serving size then it's pointless.

I will guarentee this, if you do the above you will loose weight.

Alternately you can get Diet Power. www.dietpower.com, it basically does the samething but does all the calculating for you. You can download the program and try it I think for 15 days before you have to purchase. However to purchase it is only $49 I think. A guy I worked with used it and lost a bunch of weight. It works.

Yeah, it actually does work. My mother was on it for a while. Infact she had everyone in the house on it because she didn't want to have to cook twice. I think, if I remember correctly, she lost somewhere around 20 pounds on it. If you go grocery shopping and you buy what they call "Atkins approved" foods and stuff, it can get quite expensive though. I find it easier to just read the lables and buy things that have little to no carbs. But I don't need to be on a diet anyway. I probably don't weigh enough as it is.

Because its not healthy, plain and simple. No diet can replace exercise and robbing your body of carbs and replacing them with fat is hurting both your heart and your stomach.

Are you taking any diet supplements like Metabolife or one of those others?

About the only time when I experience severe stomach pain is when I eat sugar. Some times it doesn't bother me but most of the time it does. It's as if my stomach can't handle very large amounts of sugar any more. I don't even have to eat a whole lot of it and my stomach will go hay-wire. This isn't because of any diet though. My stomach is just weird. I only weigh like 94 lbs anyway. I don't need to be on a diet.

I LOST 10 POUNDS IN 8 DAYS. I THINK THE DIET IS WONDERFUL. I DO GET STOMACH PAINS WHEN I EAT SOMETHING WITH SUGAR IN IT OR BREAD. THE FIRST 3 DAYS I WAS TIRED BUT AFTER THAT I HAD ALOT OF ENERGY. I TAKE A CHEAP VITAMIN. CAN SOMEONE LIST WHAT THEY EAT IN A DAY ON INDUCTION.

I THINK THE DIET IS WONDERFUL BUT HARD TO STAY ON BECAUSE I LOVE BREAD. I ALSO LOVE FRENCH FRIES BUT NOW THEY ARE SAYING THAT CAUSES CANCER SO ANOTHER REASON TO NOT EAT THEM.
