Possible future books for JKRowling? |

OK... this doesn't really have anything to do with the topic of this forum, but I have an idea.
You know how JKR said she won't write about Harry's life after Hogwarts. And it's OK - it probably wouldn't be as interesting as these seven books, but... She might do what George Lucas did: Go further back in past and write about the life of Harry's parents and their friends *and enemies* when *they* were in Hogwarts.
Does anyone else think it would be SOOOOO COOOOOL?:-) | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lawless | | Sorry, I needed to move this topic to it's own thread. Please, if you know that you're going to be posting "off topic" then just start a new thread. The more the merrier.
Anyway... I wonder if JKR would want to continue writing about the same thing, or try a completely new avenue. I agree.... I would love to see a story with all the professors as students, and Harry's parents in school. And learn a lot more about them, including Lily's family. It's been done with other great books, and I've enjoyed going back and reading how these characters came to be the way they are, etc... So, I'm all in favor of JKR doing a prequel to Harry Potters life. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: agent mike | | As big a fan of Harry Potter as I am, I have to say I would not want to see a prequel series. True, George Lucas did it, but compare the quality of the new films to the original Star Wars trilogy. And don't say the same thing won't happen because JKR is at the helm -George was hailed as a genius when the original trilogy was released, and yet he still beefed up the prequels. There's also the fact that if it concerned Harry's parents, we all know how the story's going to end. And if it was a prequel that concerned some of the teachers as students, the whole thing would have a tinytoons feel about it. Harry Potter is a household name, and if JKR ever begins a new project, hopefully it won't be close enough to Harry for people to compare one to the other. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Maja88 | | *No comment** good point, mike, but still I think a lot of people would like to read about it. Although if JKR writes everything that she promised to write about Harry's parents in the future HP books, there will be no need for a special book... but she might leave a lot of things unexplained, so she would have enough material for even the end of this hypothetical book to remain a secret until it's read. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lawless | | True, I would just love to have there be a lot of explaination about the past of James and Lily. That would settle this need in me for more. And I would like to know more about Snape, and what's brought him from being a death eater to where he is now. But, if she did go back and write a prequel, I would read it. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: agent mike | | I'm not saying I wouldn't read it, it's just the idea of entering a new perspective after seven books of looking through Harry's eyes. I think the reason JKR is setting up so many windows to the past ie/ the pensieve and legitimancy (probably spelt wrong) is so that we can see the history of these characters without the need for books outside the series. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lawless | | You know... like I said, if we were able to learn all the past and the things that we're really dying to know in the next two books, that I agree with you, whole heartedly. I just want to know everything. I'm that kind of person in real life even... I want every single minute detail of things, so that I have the entire picture. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: agent mike | | I guess you'd be a bit p****ed if JKR finished the series on a cliffhanger then? lol | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lawless | | Oh man... I don't think that I would be that upset if I knew that there was something that would be written in the future to relieve us of the stress and anxiety from the cliffhanger of book 7. Oh man... now I'm feeling anxious thinking... "Could she, would she, leave us with a cliffhanger? With unanswered questions?"
Okay Mike... that was just purely evil of you to plant that thought into my head!!! ARGH! | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: agent mike | | Muhahaha! Or worse, if she had some emotional breakdown before writing book 7 and never got round to finshing the series. Ok that's just silly. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lawless | | A cliffhanger is where at the end of a book, or movie, you are left with an "opening" to there being more. So, at the end of each of the HP books, there is still a cliffhanger, because things haven't been completed.
You know, at the end of a movie, when you "think" that the bad guy is dead, but then they show his body, and something on it moves? That would be a cliffhanger! | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lawless | | Yes, they are quite frustrating. But, you know that your story will go on that way. I get sad sometimes at the end of a book, or trilogy that I've read and it's just over. I always hope for more. I've written some of my favorite fantasy/sci fi aurthors and heard back from them telling me if they will continue on or not. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Maja88 | | But, there are some books that are just great the way they are, and another sequence in those stories would just make the whole series worse. Like Philip Pullman's 'His Dark Matter'. A brilliant end of a wonderful trilogy. I hope JKR will come up with an end as strong as that one. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lawless | | I hope that JKR will end the 7th HP book with something that allows us to feel good. It will just be hard to say goodbye to all these characters, and not see what has become of all the kids that we've grown to love so much, after following them through their years of schooling.
I would like to see JKR continue written books once she has finished with the HP series. I hope that whatever she writes, it will have at least the same sort of pull for all ages. I think that she is a great writer, and I don't want to stop reading her works. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: sirusbabyqt | | I do recal hearing, well reading that JKR wont right any future books about Harry Potter but I can find it easy to believe that she might write about the past.
But I also read that she has a full history of Sirus [/COLOR] in her head. His life at home, with James etc.
I think that would be an interesting read.
