Spells... what would you add? |
| Posted by: Lawless | | Here's a list of spells from the world of Harry Potter.
If you were a wizard and could create spells, what would you make, what would it do, and what would you name it?
************************************************
-Incendio: Conjures a fire instantly.
-Accio: Summoning charm that makes objects zoom into your hand.
-Obliviate: A memory charm, that modifies/erases someones memory of a certain event/thing.
-Sonorus: Amplifies a person's voice.
-Quietus: Returns your voice back to normal after using the Sonorus spell.
-Lumos: Creates a beam of light at the tip of your wand.
-Nox: Puts out the light after using the Lumos spell.
-Morsmordre: Conjures the Dark Mark (only Dark Wizards/followers of Lord Voldemort know how to perform this spell).
-Prior Incantato: Allows you to see the last spell a wand cast (put the tip of your wand with the other wand & then the ghost of the spell will appear!).
-Deletrius: Deletes the ghost of the spell created after casting the Prior Incantato spell.
-Reparo: Repares anything broken instantly.
-Imperius Curse: Say "Imperio" and you will have total control over the subject (human or animal) and you can make them do whatever you want (one of the Unforgivable curses).
-Cruciatus Curse: Say "Crucio" and you will torture your subject and they will twist and roll around in pain (one of the Unforgivable curses).
-Avada Kedavra: This is the Killing Curse where the victim will fall dead instantly with no marks on their body. (one of the Unforgivable Curses).
-Engorgio: Makes an object or living thing bigger instantly.
-Reducio: Returns the object or living thing back to its normal size after the Engorgio spell is cast.
-Furnunculus: This curse makes the victim grow tons of large ugly boils all over their face instantly.
-Densaugeo: This makes your victim grow huge front teeth instantly.
-Orchideous: Makes a bouquet of flowers burst from the tip of your wand.
-Avis: Conjures a flock of small birds.
-Petrificus Totalus: Puts someone in a full body bind.
-Wingardium Leviosa: A charm that makes objects fly.
-Alohomora: A charm that opens most locks.
-Waddiwasi: Unclogs or unsticks small things/wads that are blocking up an area? Professor Lupin used this to to unclog a piece of gum from a keyhole.
-Riddikulus: This spell is used on Boggarts, which turn into your worst fears, so you say it and it makes whatever it turned into funny!
-Impervius: Makes objects repel water.
-Expecto Patronum: Conjures a patronus to defend you from Dementors.
-Ferula: Creates a splint and bandages to help mend any broken limbs.
-Aprecium: Allows you to see/read invisible ink (makes it visible!).
-Serpensortia: Creates or summons a snake out of the tip of your wand.
-Tarantallegra: Forces someone to dance continously.
-Rictusempra: A spell that keeps tickling someone.
-Impervius: Makes something waterproof, so it repels water.
-Finite Incantatem: This spell will stop all (or most) charms and spells coming your way.
-Stupefy: Stuns your opponent, but not permanently, only for a short period of time.
-Ennervate: Revives a person or living creature after being stunned perhaps from the Stupefy Curse.
-Point Me: Your wand will show you True North.
-Reducto: Blasts solid objects or barriers out of your way.
-Impedimenta: This jinx slows down or just freezes the legs of creatures and humans, but it doesn't last very long.
-Expelliarmus: A disarming spell, so you take your opponent's wand away from them.
-Dissendium: A spell to open doors to passageways maybe? Harry used this spell to open up the statue of a Witch to get to the secret passageway to Hogsmeade.
-Mobiliarbus: Lifts an object up and moves it over to the desired spot.
-Mobilicorpus: Lifts up and moves bodies.
-Diffindo: Used to split/rip/break things. Harry uses this to split the strap on Cedric's bag when he wants to stop him and get his attention so they can talk about the Tri-Wizard Tournament in Book 4. | | Reply To this Message

Duplicatous: Duplicates something of your choosing. Like yourself, for instance, so that you could be in multiple places at one time, doing different things.
Resesitate: Brings someone back to life, if they have just died.
Stupido: Aimed at a person, it would render them DUMB! | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: horjus | | amor vincit (mortem) - love wins (over death)
I would like to add some explanation, hope you don't mind.
I think Harry will try to master a some spell like this as his personal wizard exam (as auror in spe). For Voldemort there is no good or bad, only power and those to weak to seize it. Death is the end of power, and the worst thing for him to happen. It's something he's fleeing from (cf the meaning of 'voldemort') by using the toughest of dark arts, so he could even survive his own avada kedavra curse.
Avada Kedavra seems to be the ace card of the dark wizardry, the white magic has no answer to it accept hiding.
Only Harry has survived Voldemorts curses several times, because of the strength of old magic (sacrificial mothers love), because of the rare effect of priori incantatem and because of Dumbledore's interference.
The greatest 'white' wizard, Dumbledore had no counterspell against Avada K. (in his fight with V.), accept - again - sacrificial love (Felix).
He said to Voldemort that there are worser things than death. I think he's revering to a life without love.
I think Dumbledore has been studying the ancient magic of love for many years, maybe secretly at the department of mysteries in the locked chamber (where there is a mighty force, of which Harry has a lot and Voldemort none; love).
Maybe in book 6 Dumbledore will teach Harry more about this, and maybe there is an ancient spell (to be retrieved by a dangerous quest?) only Harry can fully master in order to kill Voldemort because of his past, and because they share the same blood, but not the power of love. This spell would then be the ace card of the white magic, a true counterjinx against the Avada K., not only defensive, but also offensive and fatal for those who only hate.
I think Dumbledore used some smaller form of magic like this during his fight with V.; it was the spell which only made a strange sound when it hit Voldemort (who afterwards wondered why D. was not trying to kill him). I think it was some sort of magic scan. Maybe it gave D. some insight, just like when D. smiled when he heard V. resurrected with Harry's blood.
Maybe in book 7 there will be a final fight in which Dumbledore will sacrifice himself to add strength to a spell that Harry has mastered for killing Voldemort and thus fulfilling the prophecy.
Therefore I would add as a spell: AMOR VINCIT. | | Reply To this Message

|
| Posted by: Nion | | the Maherius Hex that made the victim feel as though he was being stabbed in the location the spell hit
the Kano Micro curse that shrunk someone to the size of a mouse
the Apendo Keros spell; it allowed the user to control the temperature of an area
what do u think?
Clonusout-it duplicates(like KJPotter)but i think that his wouldn't exist cause Voldemort would want to use it for him,and would have used it already..so my spell clones the body and the mind but the clone would not have magic powers | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lawless | | Good ones, Mike. I like the Mendus. Hopefully it will work better at repairing wounds than the spell that Gilroy Lockhart used on Harry's broken arm!!! Oh boy... | | Reply To this Message

they forgot the spell when Ron tried to make Malfoy puke slugs .. what spell was that?
my new suggestion would be

Continus - lifts the Stoppus spell ..

Avada Kedavra (killing curse) - Aramaic phrase that means "may it be destroyed."
Avis (spell that Ollivander used to make birds fly out of Krum's wand) - Latin for "bird."
Cunjunctivitus Curse (spell that Krum used to "do something" to the eyes of the Chinese Fireball during the first task of the TWT) - Conjunctivitis is the scientific name for pink-eye -- the illness that children often get that makes eyelids crust together.
Cruciatus Curse - "Crucio" is Latin for "to torture."
Deletrius (banishing spell) - Latin for "to erase."
Densuageo (spell that Malfoy used to make Hermione's front teeth grow huge) - "Dens" is Latin for "teeth." "Augeo" is Latin for "to enlarge."
Diffindo (spell Harry used to cause Cedric's bag to split apart) - In Latin, "Diffundo" means "scatter."
Ennervate (used to revive someone who has been stunned) - When spelled with two n's, as ennervate, it actually means to add nerve (daring or strength). With one n, as enervate, it means to weaken. The spell in the books is "ennervate," so it makes perfect sense.
Expelliarmus (disarming spell) - Latin combination "to expel" and "arma" (weapon).
Impedimenta (used to slow down attackers) - "Impedio" is Latin for "to hinder."
Imperius Curse - "Impero" is Latin for "to control" and "imperium" is Latin for "absolute control."
Lumos (used to make a wand emit light) - "Lumen" is Latin for "light" and "luminous" means "emitting light" in English.
Morsmordre (makes the Dark Mark appear in the sky) - Combination between "mors" (Latin for "death") and "modere" (Latin for "to bite"). Death bite? No -- Death Eater.
Nox (cancels out Lumos) - "Nox" is Latin for "darkness."
Orchideous (makes flowers spring out of the tip of a wand) - Orchid is a type of flower.
Patronus (dementor defense spell) - "Patronus" is Latin for "protector."
Quietus (cancels out "Sonorus") - Obviously "quiet" means to be silent, and "quietus" in Latin means to be quiet.
Reducio (shrinking charm) - "Reduce" means "to make smaller" in English.
Riddikulus (spell used to transform a scary Boggart into a humorous shape) - "Ridiculous" means "absurd."
Sonorous (spell used to magnify a voice like a loudspeaker) - "Sonorus" is Latin for "loud."
Stupefy (spell used to make someone unconscious) - "Stupefy" in English means "dull the senses of; daze."
Veritaserum (truth potion) - "Veritas" is Latin for "truth" and a serum is a potion. | | Reply To this Message
