Okay... since we seems to like to talk about other things, let's use this thread in the HP room to talk about whatever we want. How does that sound to everyone? Post what you want, and if you're responding to something that someone else posted, please check the "quote" box to take what they've posted into your quote as well. Then, when we end up with tons of posts in here, we will know to what each post is regarding to. Does that make sense?

Oh thats too funny! Actually, my mom is a teacher, I have aunts that were teachers, a cousin, and some other relatives that are cousins. There's a lot of teachers in my family line... but no one that has taught at the college/university level. So, I hope to be the first, if that's where I decided to go eventually.

You should post wherever you want. You can try out both houses, and see if there's one that you end up liking more than the other. Or, you can post in all four, and see if there's one that you want to be in. How does that sound?

I posted all those the other night, because we needed some new and fresh topics in here. I'm trying to get more people in this forum, everyday. I would like to see it become a largely visited forum of familiar names.

It's afternoon over here -really warm too. Everyone thinks it always rains in Britain, but it's only in Spring and Autumn -Summer's great!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Lawless

No, I don't have that misconception. It's a bit chilly here now in San Diego. Something that people here think is that we always have the greatest weather. It's summer now, and it's been extrememly hot and really humid. I can't wait till Fall... but it's still not cold at that time.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: agent mike

At least you get Fall. All we get is Autumn -lol.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Lawless

Well, when I say "Fall" I'm talking that it get's a little cooler here, etc... We don't have the actual season here. We don't have leaves on trees turning colors, we don't have snow. *Sniff* I miss that sort of stuff. But, I do live in America's Finest City.

lol. Columbus probably lived next door. I said I'm about 35 minutes from Harry because that's where Surrey is. I doubt there's actually a place called Prive Drive. The neighbours would get a bit p***ed off with all the tourists. But in Philip Pullman's Dark Materials trilogy, Will comes from Winchester -I can bike there in 10 minutes!

this year i really hate the summer .. it is freaking hot for days and then we get the biggest thunderstorms and tons of rain and then it gets way to hot again ..

KJ, why is San Diego the finest city in the US?

last fall (autumn *lol*) we went on a trip around the Southwest - i just LOVED it .. we didn't hit San Diego though .. we enjoyed the national parks a lot and we got married in Vegas (can you imagine *hehe*) ..

if i could choose though, i would love to live in Wisconsin - the summers are quite nice (not that hot, but sunny) and the winters are just awesome - nice and cold and lots of snow ..

ineli

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Lawless

ineli, that's the city's "slogan." All of them have one, and that's what San Diego's has been for as long as I can remember. It's called that because we have tropical weather year round, we're right on the beach, and 45 minutes from the mountains, and snow. It's a paradise, that has too many people though.

Wisconsin, eh? I've been there, and would never want to live there. But, I think that I would LOVE to live in Colorado. My brother lives there, and he's in a town of like 40,000 people. It's beautiful, right off the Rocky Mountains, they get snow, but not too much, they have great weather.

Reply To this Message

Wisconsin - dairy land .. home of the cows *hehe* ..

i am very much a winter person, i couldn't even live in San Diego .. and then .. i like cheese, that helps ;o)

i spent a year in Wisconsin and i really enjoyed it .. here is my favorite picture:

we try to win a Green Card as well, but chances are pretty low ..

our dream is to live in Canada, though ..

Oh, I'm not saying that it IS America's finest city... just that it is our cities slogan. It is amazingly beautiful though. I love that you can have great weather year round... wear shorts year round. But, I love seasons, and trees changing colors, and snow.

i can see you all in November - with your remembralls bright red and you have no clue ..

wouldn't you love Hogwarts in winter? .. or Christmas? ..

Reply To this Message

I was wondering why there's never been mention of any school in America. I wonder if that's just because JKR isn't mentioning them all. But, we know that there are wizards in America, because they caught portkeys in the beginning of book 4 for the International Quiddich Championship game.

Yeah... laugh at us now. Our rememberals will be red and we won't have a clue why!!!

Reply To this Message

my dear KJ ..

that thing is called a Remembrall .. not a rememberal ... to be honest, i looked it up just to make sure i wouldn't make a fool of myself

she never mentioned a wizarding school in Germany either .. what a pity

by the way .. what exactly do Pottermaniacs think where Durmstrang is? ..

oh, i forgot something .. i wanted to show you that one site where all the different translations of certain people and things and charms and stuff is ..

personally i found it quite annoying to watch the HP - movies in German and finding out that so many things are called totally different .. for example the Remembrall, which would be an Erinnermich in German .. weird, isn't it?

here is the website:

Durmstrang? Well, because they talk about the COLD weather, snow, etc... and their accents... I was thinking that it was somewhere in Russia.

Hey, about the school in America...i think there was a thing mentioned in book 4 about a Salem witchcraft institute, or something? **could be my imagination**
I bet there's a wizarding school in each country, only not all of them are so good to be in the Triwizard Tournament. Wonder where Croatian would be**???

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Lawless

Well, maybe there is a school of witchcraft and wizardry in Salem, Mass. I don't know though. It could be anywhere, really. I prefer to think that it would be in the mountains somewhere that didn't have a populated town close by. So, in the Rocky Mountains, or the Applachian Mountains. Yeah... that's what I would think.

sorry you guys in SD are having such hot weather. in NY, it's been staying in the 70's. but the night we had the blackout, the temperature was in the 90's with lots of humidity, and i had no air conditioning!!

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Lawless

It's okay. We're used to getting a little heat wave now and again. Just doesn't happen often, and when it does, we just like to moan and groan, and hear ourselves complain.

Yeah... I remember when you had that blackout, and the news was saying how hot it was there, and people were stuck, and couldn't get home, so they were just sitting and laying down right there on the sidewalks. That would not be fun.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: fuscia

Sorry about the blackout, I can't imagine how all of those people dealt with being stuck in elevators and subway cars. Panic attack! We are not used to having humid weather here. So, when it gets into the 90's and is humid, then we start moaning. We have had nice weather for the last few days, but it will jump up to the 90' this weekend. NOTE: for anyone wanting to visit San Diego. I suggest late September or October. The Arizona tourists have all gone home, the temperature is beautiful, and the beaches are perfect and you can actually park at them.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Lawless

Sherry is right about late September or October. Perfect months! Though, I love November - March too. I just wish that we had weather like living in the mountains, with the trees all going through the color changes, and some snow, etc... but, that's what happens when you live on the beach in a tropical area.

And, if anyone ever visit's San Diego... it would be cool to meet up and say "hi."

Disclaimer-Fuscia has nooooooo idea who that is.

KJPotter:

Hey "MR. fuscia"... who in the world are you talking about???
~Prof. Potter

fuscia:

my husband- it was his question. He and Mike both follow English Premier League Football. The second Neville guy is supposed to be famous in Brittan.

**********************************************

KJPotter:

Ohhhhhhhhh... I wouldn't know that! Now, let's discuss American Football, and I'm allllllllllll ears!!!! Two more weeks till the season starts!!!!

**********************************************

Maga88:

Aaaah Neville he's in....ummm.... Arsenal, right? or somewhere...

**********************************************

fuscia:

Sorry Kris, mr. fuscia and myself are soccer fans, but I will wish whatever football team you like a great season. With me it is only 2 more weeks until my stained glass class starts again!!!!!

*********************************************

fuscia:

great taste in teams Maja!

**********************************************

Maga88:

:-) i know :-)
What's your favorite team?

*********************************************

fuscia:

My husband loves Real Madrid. I like them also, but I don't get to see many games-little kids u know. My husband used to be a huge AC Milan fan until they acquired Leonardo. No American could follow a team that has him-World Cup 94.

**********************************************

Okay... I've pasted these over here. Continue with this chat here, please!! Thanks!

Reply To this Message

Ummm... yeah, a little bit too early for me... '94.
Yeah, Real Madrid is a champion. Only it was kind of stupid to me when David Beckham joined the team, i always pictured Man Utd and Real as two biggest european rivals, and it was kinda like Harry Potter starts playing for the Slytherin Quidditch team. Everyone thinks that's stupid but that's how i felt.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: agent mike

Why are you guys all over-looking the greatest team in the world? Southampton are on their way to the top. They were in the FA cup final last season (true; they didn't beat Arsenal, but not that many teams do.) We started this season with an away draw, we've got James Beattie, and now that Man Utd. have lost Beckham, we all know what direction they're going in. We'll have Real Madrid by the b**** in a few years, you'll see.

Mr fuscia here.Neville Southall was a Welsh international and goalkeeper for Everton in the eightys,at the time he was considered one of the best in the world. He kept playing for several years after that ,gained a TON,but could still move well, which was truly amazing from a man of his ...um... stature .As far as Southampton even competing with Real Madrid, they need 2 things.1 -American goalkeeping.2-About $50million US.(the FA cup is within reach though) ps.Leonardo almost killed Tab Ramos with a vicious elbow(crushed his skull).pps.I liked the movies, haven't read the books.

What a card! It should be noted that since our four-year-old son is obsessed with the first two movies, Mr. fuscia has viewed the first one over 20 times and can recite dialog along with it with a perfect accent for each character. The second movie, we are still working on, son afraid of the spiders.

American goalkeeping huh? When was the last time you guys won the World Cup? No offense, God bless America, but don't nasty-word British goalkeeping. As for Southall, he must have been before my time. I agree with Saints needing the money though.

Mike, I know for a fact that he was NOT trying to badmouth Brittish goalkeeping. He loves watching EPL. Top rated goalkeeper in the world-AMERICAN Brad Friedel. Tim Howard is the #1 for Man U.-I could be wrong about the team, let us not forget Casey Kellar. OH, and yes, we have never won the Cup, however the one thing we do produce over here are big, strong talented goalies.

There is a God, and his name is James Beattie! I bet he could have put that goal in any time he wanted, he just thought it would be funny to keep us hanging on until the 88th minute. Just you watch, we'll be going up the ladder like a window-cleaner on speed.

Yes! I have a virus, so between the fever and the humidity, I'm going crazy.

Ron just isn't a reader. He has constant headaches, so I think that is why.

OKay... Ron is off the hook!

I'm really sorry to hear that you're sick! And this humidity is killing me. I'm just sweating bullets today. Though, it could be due to the fact that the Chargers are losing right now, 24 to 0. ARGH!

It's not too bad over here at the moment. No humidity, and it's that time of year when there's not a cloud in the sky but the air's still cool and fresh. Unfortunately, thanks to the predictability of British weather, I'm not looking forward to what's coming next -LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS OF RAIN.

Don't worry, the college is half an hour's walk away, so I'm only occupied during the day.

Ohhhhhhhh.... goodie, goodie gumdrops!

How's school going, by the way?
I started my one class for the semester last Saturday!
Today is my second meeting in there. Three hours... and it's History. Talk about falling asleep!

I'm studying chemistry, biology, maths and product design at the moment, so I've got 5 hours of each of those every week, excluding homework. But it's better than school, because of all the free periods and socialising and stuff, plus the canteen does great prawn and mayo sandwiches.

Sounds like a lot of work!!! Too much for me. I work 40 hours a week, have that 3 hour class... and 8 hours of study time outside of class. That's enough. Not to mention the gym, daily for an hour. I have a packed schedule. But, I manage. I don't want to take on any more.

Welcome back Agent Mike. We missed you. Glad to hear that college is going well. What is your major in college? And brave man, chemistry, biology, and math in the same term. WOW! And to think I got a lecture for taking biology & geography the same term.

I think we do things kinda different over here Sherry. We don't really have majors. Over here, for the first year of college, you can study up to 5 AS levels, and then for the second year you can take 3 of those subjects on to A level. For my A levels I'll need 3 A grades if I wanna get into Southampton University; they have a really good medecine department there and I'll need to go there if I wanna be a paedeatrician.

Yes, your system is different. You have to Major in something to get a degree over here. I think it is wonderful that you want to be a pediatrician. My son Damon loves his. He thinks everything he says is gold. Just think, when you are a doctor you can wear Harry Potter ties to work!!

Wow, I never thought of the Potter ties. The whole emotional reward of bringing joy to sick children is one thing, but the ties!

Oh yeah... and you could even give kids little things, like a bookmark, or something simple like that... with the latest characters of what they like. Giving to kids is so easy and so much fun. It's a great joy in life to be responsible for putting a smile on a childs face... and you are going to have that opportunity throughout life, Mike.

All of the Pediatricians in our kids Dr.s office wear ties with animals, fun stuff. When they go to the hospital, they wear scrub hats with prints on them. They really help the kids to be relaxed. OH, don't forget the sticker drawer. Harry Potter stickers are great!!!

Oh yeah... we must not forget the sticker drawer. Or, bandaids with cartoon characters on them. And balloons, or popsicles. My pediatricians office always had a huge freezer filled with popsicles for the kids. We loved getting shots just for that reason.

Wow, my paedeatrician didn't even keep his needle draw closed. I'm gonna give kids the life my doctor almost took away from me <cue the emotional patriotic/life-long-struggle music>

Okay... where is everyone??? Sherry, I know where you are. Mike, did you get lost a pile of books, with all those classes? Meg, where are you... the games aren't the same. You know it all. Nion, I haven't seen you forever. Maja... where have you been???? Reese... you haven't written me in a long time. Did you run off with your hula hoop and forget all about us in here?

Man... I'm missing all of you!!! I can't wait for the next book or movie, just to be able to talk to you guys. I miss you all.

Don't be silly. We don't need to use the books or films as an excuse to talk. But yes I have been lost under my pile of books. And alot of my free time is used to calm my brain down. But don't feel like you're being ignored KJ!

We miss all of the Harry Potter crowd. This board is wonderful. It is a place where people are funny and respectful. May it continue for a very long time.

Yes... that is one thing about the HP forum. We can laugh about a lot of things, discuss, etc... and we are all respectful to each other. That's rare.

For Agent Mike,aka lupin,

I have a theory that your Saints are suffering because you don't spend enough time with Harry Potter. ......just kidding. Hope the Saints do well.

Sherry

That's a good idea/theory. I think that there is a possibility that you're right.

OKay... what were we talking about in the other thread. And were we EVER off topic in there! I need to give myself some warning points. But, I can't... I'm a mod, and we can't have 'em! Oh well... I will just have to settle with a little self lecturing instead!

You shouldn't lecture yourself too much. Heck, there are only 3 of us in here, so only two of us to lead astray!

Grant and Kris-fav tv show?

It WAS Xena (just because I'm in love with Lucy Lawless), but that isn't on anymore. So, it's a tie between CSI: Vegas and 7th Heaven. What polar opposites those two are.

How about you, Sherry?

I love too many shows, I think

I think my all time favorites were Quantum Leap and Picket Fences... however I haven't seen them in so many years (my mum has most of Quantum Leap on video though)

I also used to love Buffy, but that's all over now

Now I like Friends and CSI. And the Simpsons

Okay, that's my answer: all time favorite show = The Simpsons

Well, that is a hard one. I like ER, well for Goran mostly, bad SHerry, bad bad!!! I like Scrubs. That would be my fav. right now. I am waiting for 10 to watch the Brotherhood of Poland NH, I just love Randy Quaid.

Guilty pleasure: at Christmas I HAVE to watch Christmas Vacation. Love that movie.

Well... that's one way to get an answer!
We also have to remember that you get shows a year or more after we do. Which, I don't like.

Oh man... we watch that movie EVERY Christmas. Heidi won't watch it at ANY other time. Hey.. maybe we can do that together this year!
