Bustin' into our office -The Sun Newspaper
By SINEAD O'NEILL
WHEN Busted told us they were popping into Sun Online for a webchat, we couldn't wait to catch up with all the gossip from Matt, James and Charlie.
Since they last visited our office, the bestselling trio have become one of Britain's biggest bands, scoring a string of hit singles and picking up a Brit Award for Best Pop Act.
And the boys - whose new single Thunderbirds Are Go / 3am is out now - told us they're set to become even busier, thanks to their new reality TV show which they are currently filming in America.
They also unveiled their plans for conquering the States and revealed what the public can expect from their next album, which is due out at Christmas.
So if you're a Busted fan, read on to find out whether the band are enjoying this year's Big Brother, why they have no plans to get married just yet and what they really think about best pals McFly.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
We last interviewed you shortly after You Said No was released. What have you been up to since then?
Matt - We spent ages gigging around the country for our A Ticket For Everyone tour - which was awesome - and we’ve also been travelling loads to places like America and Japan.
James - Touring Japan and the States was incredible because the venues we played were smaller than what we're used to, making it a very different kind of show.
Charlie - We’ve just been having a ball and enjoying ourselves. The tour was definitely the highlight though - we had a constant good time and loved every minute of it. I look back at the last few months and there isn’t one part I haven’t enjoyed.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Your new single Thunderbirds Are Go is brilliant and has been tipped for No1 on Sunday - are you fans of the original series?
Katherine Wright
Matt - I watched it from time to time but didn’t think it was very cool. I preferred The Raggy Dolls. Sad Sack, Back To Front… they were the best!
Charlie - I wasn't a big fan either - my all-time top programme is The Simpsons.
We didn't actually choose to write a song for the Thunderbirds film - we were asked to do the track so we agreed.
James - The timing was also good - we've just finished promoting our last album and we're not releasing anything for a while so we thought it would be nice to bring something out for our fans in the meantime.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
The other side of your single is called 3am - if you were to call anyone at 3am, who would it be?
Cheryl Blair
Charlie - If I called someone at 3am, it would probably be because something was wrong!
So it would either be 999 or, if I was completely trashed, a taxi!
James - The only person I would call at that time would be Pizza-A-Go-Go!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you could ask Brains from Thunderbirds to design and build a gadget for you, what would you request?
Lesley Davis
Matt - I’d like to have a machine that would allow me to relax but actually be in the gym!
That way, I'd get all the benefits of being fit without actually having to get off my a**. The gym sucks more than anything I know but I’d still really love to be a muscle man!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Is it true that you are going to be starring in your own TV show – if so, what more can you tell us about it?
Kath, Huddersfield
James - Yes, it's true - in fact, we're filming it at the minute. It’s going to be a six-part series which will follow us working in America and doing some stuff at home as well.
Matt - It should be on the TV in October, both here and in the US.
Making our own show is really exciting because it gives us the chance to let people know about both our music and ourselves. We’re all big fans of shows like The Osbournes so it’s awesome to be involved in something similar.
Besides, even if the programme doesn’t help us to crack America, it’s still nice to have a memento that we can look back on when we're 50 and say, 'hey, we did this!'
--------------------------------------------------------------------
What are Busted's plans for taking over America?
Katie Van Lieshout
Matt - We’re just going to go over there and give it our best shot - that's all we can do.
Obviously, success in the US would be fantastic but we don’t want to go there and forget about everything we’ve achieved here.
Too many bands do that and end up forgetting about the fans back home who made them successful in the first place.
James - With America being so big, everyone thinks you have to sell shedloads of records to crack the market but to be truthful, selling even 300,000 albums there is still a hell of a lot and loads more than we sell in some smaller European countries.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi guys - what do you think about Stuart from Big Brother? Is it true that you're playing at the Big Brother final next week?
Aimee Connolly
Charlie - We haven’t really been watching it, we’ve all been really busy!
Matt - But we have heard of Stuart – isn't he the one who had sex with the Geordie girl?
James - He’s obviously a cool guy because he likes us! And from what I’ve seen of the show, he’s definitely the best in there - better than that lairy Scottish one anyway!
Charlie - It’s complete bull**** about us playing at the final though -we definitely aren’t doing that.
There are so many rumours going around the Internet about us, it's hard to keep up but that one isn’t true… at least, not as far as we know!
--------------------------------------------------------------------
The last time you came in, you were all single. Is this still true or have you settled down now?
Matt – We’ve all got girlfriends now and are very happy. You could call us settled down but there aren't any wedding bells or proposals in the future.
James - Our fans always want to know when we're going to get married but we're way too young - I’m 21, James is 20 and Charlie is only 19!
I might consider it when I'm 23 or 24 when it won’t sound so ridiculous but at the moment, it's just daft to be thinking that far ahead.
Matt - If I proposed to my girlfriend at the minute, she would laugh at me so I can't see it happening anytime soon.
James - It is difficult in our position to have girlfriends because there’s so much expectation when you're well known.
Some people just want to analyse you and then wait for your relationship to fall apart - it would take a lot to commit to someone under that kind of pressure.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Is it true that your next album will be live – if so, when will it be released?
Sarah A
Matt - That rumour is true but we haven’t named it yet.
It will be out in time for Christmas so put it on your lists! It's totally live but we’re also including a few cover versions and some surprises as well.
James - We’ve rejigged a lot of the songs and reworked them so that they sound fresh. We didn't want it to just be the same as our last two albums, only live.

Hi boys - have you ever thought about doing a gig for over-18s only? I love your music but I think your concerts will be full of kids.
Steph, East Sussex
Matt - We have looked into playing older venues before simply because having such young followers can cause problems sometimes.
On our last tour for example, we were only able to play seated venues as standing wasn't acceptable for young fans.
We have done overage gigs before, in both Holland and Japan, but our audience there is slightly different from the UK.
However, if we notice there is a demand for something similar in Britain, we would definitely consider doing it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Matt – is there a hairstyle that you would never have?
Lisette Werens
Matt - I like it the way it is at the minute but one thing I could never do is shave my head.
I’ve got a round little face so I would only end up looking like a pea - I guess that means I could never dye it green either!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm looking forward to seeing you on stage in November but will it be similar to your last tour or completely different?
Jen
Matt - It will be different because we'll be playing for longer and we'll be better!
The show is going to change as well - we actually wanted to have strippers on the stage with us but our manager told us they cost too much and they might run off and have sex with all the roadies!
James - We’ve been offered pyrotechnics instead but I think I would rather have the strippers but it's not going to happen!
Matt - We're also hoping that my brother’s band The Undecided will be supporting us - we haven’t confirmed anything yet but we're hoping to get them on board.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Charlie - your other band Fightstar are excellent so will you be touring soon? Do Matt and James have any solo projects lined up?
Jill Victoria, Greasby, Wirral
Charlie – We’re actually looking at dates and venues at the minute but we haven’t decided on anything just yet. Obviously, Busted keeps me busy but we will definitely be touring at some stage in the near future.
Matt – I just can't understand how Charlie gets the time to have another band, let alone tour with them - I don’t even have time to wipe my a**!
James – Charlie's always had the ability to balance everything - he even managed to do his driving test while we were on tour. So either he's got the 'get up and go' or we’re just the laziest s***s on the planet!
Charlie - It's not about finding the time for both, to be honest. I just practice when I can and, as music is how I spend my spare time anyway, it doesn't feel like a chore.
James – At the minute, I’m more than happy just to concentrate on Busted. I do enjoy writing for other bands - which is what I do when I get a free minute - so I guess you could call that my solo project.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you could be a superhero, who would you be and what powers would you have?
Niamh, Antrim
Charlie - Superman – he’s the ultimate superhero!
James - I was going to say Spiderman but he’s got so many problems – both his parents are dead, he lives with one of his grandparents, he's a loser at school, he never gets the girl… he has a tough life!
So I think I'll go for Bananaman because at least he has a family, lives in a nice house and gets to eat bananas all the time!
Matt - I'd be SuperTed!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
You’re good friends with McFly – how do you feel now they're doing really well?
Holly Fowler, Liverpool
Matt - It’s awesome but it hasn’t been entirely unexpected – we always knew the guys were great so it was just a matter of time before everyone else agreed!
I actually went into the studio to hear McFly play around two years ago and I knew then that they were going to be big.
When we heard their album, we all agreed it would go to No1, which it did, and to get a No1 album these days is really something.
James - McFly are a good thing for music in general because they’re a quality band and we need more people like them.
It’s about time that we phased out all that Pop Idol c**p and took a step in the right direction.
Matt - More and more youngsters are beginning to get into their music now and I think we have contributed to that.
I spoke to the owner of my local record shop recently and he told me that sales of starter guitar sets have gone up by around 80 per cent in the last year and he said that was down to us.
So if we can make kids pick up a guitar rather than buy a set of decks, I’m more than happy!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Have one of you ever done something sneaky to the others that they haven’t found out about yet?
Katie Harrison
Matt - I’m not very good at being sneaky but I once stole our tour manager’s wallet and forgot about it!
I put it into the back pocket of my jeans when we were getting ready to leave an airport and it just went out of my head.
It was only when I saw him on the phone looking really p***ed off that I remembered. He had already cancelled his credit cards and he wasn’t happy when I told him what I'd done!
James - This isn't sneaky either but I smashed our manager’s window the other day… by accident!
I was trying to ring him but he wasn’t picking up his phone even though I could see him sitting in his office.
I thought I would get his attention by throwing a stone at the window but it smashed!
He didn’t realise it was me who did it... but he will now!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
What has been your most memorable Busted moment so far?
Lucy Wass, Leicester
Matt - I would say the night we won Best Pop Act and British Breakthrough Act at the Brit Awards this year... but I don’t remember any of it!
James - That was probably the biggest highlight so far and was definitely the moment when we thought we'd made it.
Charlie - But we were so p***ed, it's hard to remember!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
How has fame changed your life and if you could change one thing about it, what would it be?
Laura Goodwin
Charlie - It’s altered the way in which we go out and socialise with our friends and girlfriends because we get recognised all the time now.
The 'fame' tag is the only downside to our job because none of us are in Busted because we want to be famous.
Being in a successful band is amazing because you get to play music all the time, which we love, but getting recognised and harassed occassionally isn’t so great.
The other thing about fame is that it shows you who your real friends are.
I've had so many people come up to me since we've become famous, wanting to be my mate - it's ridiculous.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Who uses the most hair products?
Jaymie-Lee Tapsell, Essex
Matt and James - Charlie!
Charlie - Only because I’ve got more hair!
Matt - None of us are particularly vain – it's not like we take ages to get ready every morning.
Charlie - People do mention our image and clothes quite a lot but really, we just dress how we normally do – scruffy!

Matt confessed he and Charlie Simpson also beat each other up to relieve boredom. Who said they are punk lite?

British pop rockers Busted are embarrassed by their attempts to break America -- because only small crowds of people turn up to their gigs
The chart-toppers have a huge following of female fans in their native Britain and across Europe, but their charms haven't been having the desired effect on American women so far.
Singer Matt Jay says, "We played the gig in Seattle in a 300-capacity club -- and 27 people turned up."

Plans for a new Busted album have been put on hold while Charlie Simpson takes two months off at the beginning of next year to work with his new band Fightstar. "Charlie's amazed at how successful Busted have become, but he knows the band aren't going to go on for ever," a friend of the 19-year-old revealed.
"He wants to concentrate more on the sort of music he's really into, and that's what he plays with Fightstar." A band spokesman said, "This doesn't mean the boys are splitting. They still plan to reunite and work on their new album."

Of course it can be a selfish act but sometimes real artist need a different body to express them selves other than their current form. Being in one band you might have certain limitations placed on you from other band mates or what ever the case may be. So you might form another band to express those feelings through that channel. Not that this is the case. | | Reply To this Message

Busted's Matt Jay disgusted onlookers by throwing up all over himself in a swanky Mexican bar.
The booze-loving singer couldn't help vomiting after downing a shot of tequila.
He confessed: "A few people saw me throw up in a fancy Mexican bar recently.
"I had a shot of tequila and as soon as it hit the back of my throat I retched all over myself."
Matt is not the only band member who has trouble handling his booze.
Bandmate Charlie Simpson admitted: "Once I was beyond drunk and was sick on my mate's mum while she was helping me to bed."

Every man's dream? ... but Busted are sick of fans flashing their boobs
TODAY marks a sad, sad day for the BUSTED boys.
After two years at the top, the pop trio — MATT JAY, CHARLIE SIMPSON and JAMES BOURNE — have had enough.
That’s right, the lads have admitted they are sick of the sight of fans . . . flashing their boobs.
The threesome complain that their legions of female followers can’t stop showing their appreciation by, er, getting them out.
Matt complained: “I never knew I’d see so many boobs. At first I was shocked but now it’s just like ‘Oh look, there’s another pair of breasts.’
“Girls always get them out for us to sign and don’t get at all embarrassed about it. The crowd at our concerts is full of t*ts.”

| Posted by: schmiggens | | BUSTED star James Bourne narrowly escaped serious injury in a car crash this week.
James was heading to the band's Glasgow concert when the people-carrier he was travelling in was side-swiped by another car.The 21-year-old singer only avoided being hurt because he had decided NOT to travel in the front of the Chrysler Voyager.
His bandmates, Matt Jay and Charlie Simpson were not with him.
Our source says: "The car was a complete write-off and the whole left-hand side was totally crushed.By some fluke James was in the back on the right - that's what saved him from being badly hurt."
The band, who last week won Record of the Year for Thunderbirds, are currently touring the country with a series of fab stadium shows.
"Matt and Charlie had decided to go to the venue earlier on Wednesday," said our insider. "It's awful to think what would have happened if they'd been in the car with James."
The concert had to be delayed while James made a statement to police.
A spokesman for the band says: "Obviously James was in shock and everyone was really worried about him.But he's a trouper and made sure that, though it started late, the show still went on.He's fine now."
Sadly the same can't be said for the car - it's totally Busted!

| Posted by: schmiggens | | Busted Officially Split Up - For Now
After various rumblings that the pop boys Busted were set to split - they've now admitted it's true... but have added that it's not a permanent separation.
Singer Charlie Simpson has decided that his career, for now, is not best served with Busted.
Their spokesman has revealed the boys' plans, saying: "Charlie is doing Fightstar at the moment. Busted will reconvene in due course."
He added that the band's other two members, Matt Jay and James Bourne, are "taking a break".
The lads rocketed onto the pop scene in September 2002, with their tune What I Go To School For, and instantly Charlie became a particular poster favourite for teenage girls.
Their split has been on the cards for months now, with reports that Matt and James were begging Charlie to stay with the band, but that the frontman was redirecting all his energies into his new rock band Fightstar.
He recently told Kerrang! magazine: "It was a fun job but I'd never claim Busted was anything other than a pop band. Busted is not the ideal band I'd like to be in by any stretch of the imagination."
It appears he's now longer keen to stretch that imagination - although their spokesman is intent on pointing out it's not a split for good... but that's what the Spice Girls said and we're still waiting.

| Posted by: schmiggens | | WHY WE HAD TO BUST UP
Star Charlie wants to bag £1m deal
FORMER Busted star Charlie Simpson has wasted no time sorting himself after walking out of the band. The bushy eyebrowed star is on the verge of signing a £1million contract with top record label Sanctuary.
The singer, and his new band Fightstar, have been in negotiations with the label, which is home to Iron Maiden and Morrissey. Execs are desperate to get them to sign and are offering complete creative control.
NEW START: Charlie
Plans for a three-album deal were being thrashed out yesterday, as Fightstar embarked on their first UK tour.
However, Universal Records, home to Busted, is also keen to hang on to the 19-year-old star. "Charlie has a lot of bargaining power and will negotiate a very lucrative deal," says a source. "But Sanctuary is the ideal place and would bend over backwards for him."
In a further snub to his old band, who he left after just three years, Charlie says he plans to be in Fightstar for at least five years.
"We'll be doing this in five years, even if it's not on a high level. We've already got a sh**ty van! It won't be hotels either - it'll be mate's floors, then cheap B&Bs. It doesn't bother me because I'm at peace with myself doing this."
TEAR WE GO: Busted
Confirming the split yesterday, he said he'd decided to quit because he wanted to "pursue other musical projects". He added: "I've always thought if I'm going to do something, I've got to put 100 per cent into it. I've had the most amazing three years and these guys are two of my best friends."
While posh Charlie has been making plans for the future, former bandmates Matt Jay and James Bourne are still coming to terms with the end of the band. After the Press conference, they left the London hotel in tears and said they would consider their options. But they insisted there were no hard feelings.
James said: "I'm devastated that Charlie has chosen to quit but I have to respect his decision and I wish him all the best."
Matt, who said they weren't releasing a farewell song, went on: "We've always had this understanding between us that if one of us left, we'd call it quits. Busted needs to be remembered for the way it was. We've had an amazing three years and we are super thankful."

FURIOUS fans of defunct boyband Busted made their former singer feel a proper Charlie when they pelted him with tomatoes. Charlie Simpson was appearing with his new band Fightstar at the Ambassador Theatre in Dublin when fans showed what they thought of him quitting Busted.
Undeterred, Fightstar are continuing their tour and will be at Glasgow King Tut's, Aberdeen's Lemontree and Edinburgh's Venue on February 6, 7, and 8.

| Posted by: schmiggens | | SO LOW SINGER
FORMER Busted boy Matt Willis says the last two weeks have been the toughest of his life.
The singer is still reeling from the band's split, which came when Charlie "Eyebrows" Simpson left to concentrate on rock group Fightstar. Matt told 3am: "I was devastated. The last fortnight has been a real struggle."
The 21-year-old spoke to us while enjoying a night out with MTV presenter girlfriend Emma Griffiths. The pair knocked back booze at a tsunami benefit organised by Blue's Lee Ryan at London's Hammersmith Palais.
Looking very loved up, Matt added: "Emma's been a great support. It's just been really surreal. One minute I was in this huge band now I'm having to think about my future.
Matt and bandmate James Bourne's pleas failed to convince Charlie not to quit the chart-topping group two weeks ago. But Willis refused to lay into his ex-bandmate, saying: "We knew it was coming."

| Posted by: schmiggens | | BODYGUARD FOR CHARLIE
BUSTED'S Charlie Simpson has been forced to hire a bodyguard after being attacked by furious fans blaming him for the group's split. The singer has also come under fire from thrash metal fans, who doubt the credibility of his new band, Fightstar.
It reached a climax last month when he was pelted with paint at an Irish gig with his new group. A band insider said: 'It was after he was hit with a paint-bomb in Dublin they decided he needed more protection. So now he's got his own bodyguard.'
Although the band's management is trying to play it down officially, Charlie was carefully tailed by his security at Fightstar's first Scottish gig at King Tut's in Glasgow on Sunday night.
There was no repeat of the Dublin scenes, but a book about the facts of life was tossed on stage.
After the gig Charlie, whose brother Will is in the band, seemed relaxed and cheerful. He even ignored an 'It's Charlie from Busted' jibe from a metal fan and shook his hand. Charlie said: 'I've really enjoyed myself. like being up in Scotland.'
The band were keen to hit the town before getting back on the tour bus for Aberdeen and asked the Razz for advice on the city. Charlie said: 'I was hoping to head to Nice N Sleazy's. Glasgow's always a good place to have a good night out.' #Fightstar play The Venue in Edinburgh tonight.
