firstly i so suprized so many people replied to my first post.THANX!!

i think this forum is great cause now i can hear what other people think about the book, figure some things out and listen to their cool theories.

MY THEORY:

i don`t know who wrote it but someone something about that freaky veil thing.About it being like the Thestrals only certain people can see.Well I think that the same people who could see the Thestrals could hear the voices,if you think closely.Harry and Luna heard them and i suppose Ginny and Neville also heard them because they were also fixated on the veil...so maybe the veil is like a portal to the spirirt world or something...just a thought

O yes i liked the theory about neville and harry being able to hold the propehcy...creepy mind boggling stuff.

Well, I would hope that they would at least talk about it. I think that it's something that Luna and Harry could talk about... and also possibly Neville and Ginny. They sensed something, and I think that would be something for the four of them to discuss and see what they think.

Can you explain me 1 thing? Why is everyone so convinced James Potter&co were Gryffindors? It's written on all the web sites and I'm not reallly sure... they might as well be Slytherin.
First of all, there were 4 boys in their clic - James, Sirius, Pettigrew and Lupin. There is usually 5 boys in each house each year, and the only boy in their year tha's mentioned is Snape.
Snape was definitely in the Slytherin, and when I saw James torchuring him in bokk5... well, there was something Sly-like in him, you gotta admit...
Pettigrew was hardly able to get in the Gryffindor, and Sirius... well, blood isn't water, you know... I think it was barely in Hogwarts when he started to think differenlty and for the first 11 years of his life he was only listening to Sly-philosophy...
And it would explain Snape being so opsessed with their clic, wanting to get with them...
Anyway, what do you think about it?
:-)

Even in the the first movie, when Hermione takes Harry inside because he's just been made the seeker for Gryffindor, and shows him that his father was also a seeker, it shows on a Gryffindor plaque. But no where in the book does it say that. So, I think that it's just all rumors. Since Harry was put in Gryffindor, everyone wants to think that his parents must have also been in there. But, remember, the sorting hat wanted to place Harry in Slytherin, and his desire was to NOT be placed there, so he wasn't. It's very possible that we will find out later on that his dad was in Slytherin. At no time has Harry asked anyone, including Sirius, which house his father, or even mother, was in. That would be something that I would have asked early on. Maybe JKR is saving that as some big secret that's going to explain something before the 7th book ends. Time will tell... but I'm really interested in knowing the answer to this.

You're right....I think which house James and crew belonged to is no longer relevant. I would have like to know when I read the first book.

Although I swear I read somewhere in one of the books that James was in Gryfsindor and so was Dumbledore and Hagrid. I could be wrong though. Did anyone else read that?

Remember, Sirius said that James always hated the dark arts, so there is no way he could co-exist in Slytherin if he hated dark wizards. Also, my theory is that the sorting hat wanted to put Harry in Slytherin because of the scar. It was picking up on the powers that Voldemort trasfered to him. Just my thoughts.

True that the hat probably did pick up on the scar. But, also remember that Harry came to Hogwarts, and was JUST introduced to the wizarding world, and finding out that he's famous, and didn't even know it. He probably thought that he had a lot to prove to people... and that was something the hat probably picked up on too. Ambition. That's a quality of Slytherin.

I just can not remember there ever being mention in the books about the house that James, Lupin, Sirius and Peter belonged to. We know where Snape was... and that there was a general hatred there with the four against him... so I would assume that they weren't in Slytherin... but one never knows. I would like to know though. I think that it would make more sense. And I want to know A LOT more about Lily and her family... and WHY Petunia is like she is toward Harry. I want the whole truth out in the open.

I'm sure that JKR slowly but surely beginning to reveal everything there is to know about Harry and his friends. I am also pretty sure that there will be things that we could not have imagined.

For example:

1. I would not be surprised if Aunt Petunia has little bit of "witch" in her. She probably knew about it all along, but just never wanted to admit or accept the idea. Therefore, she treats Harry the way she does because he is a constant reminder of that part of her being.

2. With Sirius gone, Harry no longer has anyone that was close to his father that can take care of Harry. With exception to Wormtail, but he will probably die soon anyways. So to everyone's surprise, Snape will embrace Harry in the end and agree to take care of him

How about that????

You know what, mrhsia, that would be really cool. I even expected something like that to happen in the 5th book - well not really Snape taking care of Harry, I just thought he'll be a bit nicer. I thought he would make it up with Sirius, but now Sirius is dead:-(... Snape embracing Harry would be really great, I'd like to know what would *that* look like. And I think it's somehow a logical thing to happen with Snape joining the Order - well, he can't stay a 'git' forever, right? I hope he makes friends with the others, they should become some sort of a family... It would be really coool if something like that happens

That would be something to see Putunia have a bit of wizardry in her... but hiding it so deeply, it's like she doesn't even remember it. I would love to see her "come out of the closet" in the sense of the magic that resides in here. That would be great to see.

Hmmmmmmmmm..... Snape taking care of Harry? Wow... there would have to be a lot happen for that to come to be. I just don't know that Harry will want that. And we really need to learn more about Snape first. I wish that they would talk about what happened with James and Snape. Get that out in the open.

Did everyone forget about Lupin? Harry has felt close to Lupin for a while now, so I think that Lupin will take a more substaintial role in Harry's life in the future. Snape, well, I think that he have a truce in the end with Harry.

No, haven't forgotten about Lupin. But, I've never seen a real close connection between Harry and Lupin. They are obviously close... but not like Harry was with Sirius. It's possible that he could develop a closeness to Lupin... but I think that Harry is closer with Hagrid and Dumbledore... and even Arthur Weasley.

I don't think that anyone can take Sirius' place in Harrys heart, no Lupin, no Snape (!), no Dumbledore and no Mr. Weasley - Harry has been "alone" in the first two books as well, and there have always been some people close enough to him to get along ..

I believe, Harry will retreat into his own shell for a while, letting noone come too close (so he won't get hurt again).

..........................

It would be awesome to see Petunia find out about the magic in herself .. and the look on Dursleys face

I do think there is some magic inside of her - especially since she could remember dementors so well ..

I'll do even one better....

Dumbledore mentioned that Harry is protected by a spell and in order for that spell to work, he would need to return to the Durselys once a year. I wouldn't be surprised to see somewhere in the next 2 books an attack on Harry right at the Dursleys house.

Harry might end up saving their lives. The end result might show Uncle Vernon , Petunia, and Dudley finally accepting Harry for who he is and welcoming him into the family.

IS THIS KIND OF A REACH??????

the dursleys?? .. naaaah .. uaah, what a creepy thought .. i mean, i cannot see them as a loving family, that anger and hate they build up for almost 15 years now, it would take some biiiiiiig life saving for that to change - and also .. if they weren't forced to take care of Harry in the first place, they wouldn't be attacked at all (well maybe by a heart attack, but not by wizards) ..

i do hope aunt petunia can do some magic, though .. i would just love to see the dursleys faces when they visit diagon alley ... especially vernons ..

People can change.

I mean JKR always puts lessons and stuff in her books to teach the young readers and sometimes us older readers. It seems to me that hate/anger are common emotions in all her books. She's constantly teaching us that hate/anger/prejudice and similar emotions are not good and can lead to bad things.

That's why I feel that it wouldn't surprise me to see the Dursley's turn over a new leaf. They only hate Harry because he's different, kinda like a person of different nationality.

There are lessons to be learned in Harry Potter and when its all said and done, I think there will be big changes in outlooks at the end of book 7

well yeah .. but who has changed so far .. for the better? .. I can only think of people changing to the bad side (not necessarily meaning Voldemort's side) .. e.g. Percy & Mr Fudge ...

but i do see your point .. there are quite a few lessons to learn .. like standing together, being loyal and helping each other - i love those "effects" of the book ..

I think the veil is nothing more or less than death's door itself. Luna later says to Harry regarding Sirius' death, 'come on, you heard them didn't you, just behind the curtain?' (or something like that.) I therefore also agree with the Thestral-viewers being able to hear the voces behind. Very clever!

But I think that the veil needs to remain a mystery to all of us, for the time being. The more things that we don't understand, the more intense we want to get in to it. That's what a writer wants... they want you to talk about their work, think about it, reread it, and dissect it. JKR is brilliant. She has done such a wonderful job weaving more than one story in to the HP books, she's got you trying to figure out things, that you can't. She drops hints all over the place, and it's up to us to find them. I love a writer that can do that, and keep you coming back for more.

The theory that you have about the Dursleys... I can see maybe Petunia realising that he sister wasn't that bad, after all these years, through Harry. But, I don't think that I can see Vernon ever being okay with things. He's too close minded, and he has the same affect on his son. He's taught Dudley to fear magic.
