I was really shocked to see Percy turn his back on his family, move out and just totally disown them. The fact that he didn't show up at St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries when his father was pratically dying. Oh man... what a stab in the heart Arthur and Molly must have felt, especially Molly. You know that she wanted her whole family to be there together. And then that letter that he wrote to Ron and sent by post to the school, about getting away from Harry, and not turning out like the twins. He was just so arrogant. I wanted to slap him when he was at the hearing at the Ministry.

I want to see how he reacts to his family, and even Harry, now that Fudge put out that article that Voldemort is alive. Will he apologize for taking sides with the Ministry and shunning his family? Will he just act as though he did nothing wrong? I really want to see how that turns out.

What do you all think?

Percy is so strange and shifts moods so quickly it is hard to tell. I think whatever Fudge does he'll probably do. I can't believe he did that either, but in the 4th book I kind of saw this streak in him.

True... he has to be this rigid, must follow all the rules no matter what, kind of guy. He knows what he wants... and that's a respectable job at the Ministry. So, he will do whatever Fudge does. He isn't a "fun" character by any sense of the word. To me, he's drab and boring.

Now then I was so sure that Percy would have apologised when he found out Voldermort was back. Surely if Fudge conceded that Dumbeldore was correct then Percy would have too. NO! This is significant.......Percy I feel has changed, this man wants power and I am afraid he may be following the wrong path to gain it.

Anybody else thinking the same thing?

Yes, he has completely changed. And it is possibly that he has had a serious taste of power, especially with who he's working for. I guess that anything is possible. It would just be so sad to see him not make up with his family. I hate seeing Molly cry over her son. It's disheartening.

I think Percy has always had an arrogant side to him. I think he thinks he's smarter than the rest of his family. He made mistakes, but is too proud to admit it. It's like the opposite of what Harry has. Here Percy has a large loving family and takes it for granted. Harry doesn't have any blood relatives that love him and the one person he felt was like a father or brother dies. Maybe Percy will get a clue and go back to his family in the next book.

I definitely don't think Percy is going to own up to making any errors anytime soon. He appears to have taken Fudge as a role model and we've all seen what a stupdendous person Fudge is. I think it will take Fudge making a total and complete idiot out of himsellf (to the point where Percy can no longer deny in any way shape or form exactly what kind of person Fudge is) for Percy to come around.

I think your right. I just hope for Molly's sake that Fudge doesn't drag Percy down with him.

Oh man... that would just kill Molly, wouldn't it? She is already heartbroken at the loss of her son turning his back on his family. But to see him get dragged down too!!! That would be bad. I just hope that he soon realizes what he has given up! He has a wonderful family in the wizarding community. They are honest, fun, friendly and loving. You don't find a lot of families like that... and when you do, you need to hold on to them. Percy needs a good SLAP of reality.

I don't think Percy is that power-hungry to not do whatever Fudge tells him. "Percy loves rules," Ron said in CofS. And now that the Ministry is facing up to it's mistake, humble pie is also on Percy's menu. However...

There may be a bit of foreshadowing in PofA when, in Diagon Alley, the trio stumble upon Percy engrossed in a "deeply boring" book entitled, "Prefects Who Gained Power." Funny at the time, but is JKR telling us something?

She just might be dropping hints our way, little by little. Got to love foreshadowing. It's not very easy to spot at the time, but then you look back and say, "Oh yeah... I remember that." I love JKR and the way her mind works. These HP books have honestly been my favorite... and I can't tell you how many thousands of books that I've read.

i was just re-reading book 4 and i noticed something interesting. Harry, Hermione and Ron find out that Mr. Crouch, Percy's boss, threw his own son in azkaban. Ron said that Percy must admire Mr. Crouch for this, and that Percy -like Mr. Crouch- wouldn't bend the rules, even for his own family. when Hermione says that Percy would never stoop low enough to put his own family members in azkaban, Ron says, "He would if he thought we were standing in the way of his career or something....Percy's really ambitious..."

is that foreshadowing or what?

That would be the ultimate betrayal to the Weasley family.
I would hate to see that happen. Percy wouldn't do that... would he?
*gulp* I suppose ANYTHING is possible.

I really don't think that Percy would turn into the next Voldemort, or at least I hope not {shiver...shiver}

I do think that he may be the next Fudge. Someone who is so consumed by status and power in the wizarding community. I can totally see him as the "champion" for the Ministry. Regardless of what truth was revealed in the 5th book, Percy may always stand on the side of the ministry and see Harry as someone who attracts danger.

VERY good point you have made in that observation.

Well thank you very much. I would just like to say that you too have skills in making very excellent observations as well.
