What were your favorite funny parts?

Okay, everyone!

Let's share are favorite funny parts so we don't get too sad about Sirius. I'll start......

I loved the part about the giant.... so like Hagrid to do something like that! When he got loose and found "Hermy" to ask where Hagrid is, that cracked me up

I also could imagine the spell the weasly twins did to cover up the smell in potions class (is that the right class?). They walked out of the room looking like they had upside down fish bowls on their heads! (was it charms class, then?)

And I laughed out loud when Hermione was in a snit (like she often is...) and Ron said something like "Charming polite girl she is!"

Ron bumbling around in a stupor reminded me of Gilderoy "don't I look great" Lockheart. I could imagine him wrestling with a brain with tentacles!

There was a lot of different times during the book that were funny, and here's some that got me laughing, or that I just found humorous.

When Dudley was walking home with Harry, acting all tough, and then the Dementors showed up and he turned in to a little sissy.

When Harry arrived at the headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix, and went up to the room with Ron and Hermione. He saw Hedwig and was happy, but Ron and Hermione were telling him about how she pecked them to death, and their hands were all torn up!!!!

When Ron is telling Harry about the house elf, Kreacher... Sirius' family house elf, and he basically says that he's a nutter. Hermione pipes in about that not being true. Then Ron says...
"His lifes ambition is to have his head up on a plaque just like his mother, and you don't call that a nutter!"

When Dumbledore was giving the opening speech to all of Hogwarts for the school year, and Umbridge kept interrupting him. *bad idea*

When Umbridge showed up in McGonagalls class and kept interrupting her. McGonagall finally told her that how was she supposed to get an idea about her teaching methods if she kept interrupting her, and that she doesn't permit people to talk when she's talking. Umbridge was clearly upset from this, and it said something about her looking like she had just been slapped in the face. That was priceless.

When the kids went on the Knight Bus, and it first took off, and Ron fell over his owl, Pig.

When Marietta started to "rat out" Dumbledore's Army, and get all the kids in trouble for their secret meetings, and her face got boils or something all over it. And wasn't there also writing on her face, like snitch, or something??? I thought that was a very ingenious idea of Hermione's.

When George and Fred caused a distraction, so Harry could get out from Umbridge's office. Setting off those fireworks, and no matter what she threw at them to stop them, it just caused them to split and more to pop up. And the fact that the staff wouldn't help. They said that it was the High Inquisitor's job. That was too funny.

I had a time laughing with the Weasley Twins. I also loved Dumbledore getting Umbridge upset.

one thing that was funny to me was when all the teachers wouldn't help umbridge with all of fred and george's gags they left because of the way she acted.

it was funny when mcgonogall saw peeves trying to unscrew the chandelier and instead of stopping him she sed "it unscrews the other way"

those illness candies that fred and george made were funny too

Weasly is our king was so corny it was funny, even tho it was horrible for Ron

here are a few of the moments that had me in stitches.. a few are just one-liners, but priceless!

She stood up, nostrils wide and mouth very thin, and Harry stood up, too.
'Have another biscuit,' she said irritably, thrusting the tin at him.
'No, thanks,' said Harry coldly.
'Don't be ridiculous,' she snapped.
He took one.
'Thanks,' he said grudgingly.

in class when umbridge is making them read the textbook and hermione says she has already read the whole thing, then proves it by answering umbridge's stupid question

A slightly stunned silence greeted the end of this speech, then Ron said, 'One person can't feel all that at once, they'd explode.'
'Just because you've got the emotional range of a teaspoon, doesn't mean we all have,' said Hermione nastily, picking up her quill again.

'... - are you quite sure you wouldn't like a cough drop, Dolores?'
(McGonagall).. heheheh

and from the same scene, when umbridge says 'Potter has no chance whatsoever of becoming an Auror!' and McGonagall gets up to announce: 'Potter, I will assist you to become an Auror if it is the last thing I do! If I have to coach you nightly, I will make sure you achieve the required results!'

'He kept messing up his hair,' said Harry in a pained voice.
'Sirius and Lupin laughed.
'I'd forgotten he used to do that,' said Sirius affectionately.
'Was he playing with the Snitch?' said Lupin eagerly.
'Yeah,' said Harry, watching uncomprehendingly as Sirius and Lupin beamed reminiscently. 'Well... I thought he was a bit of an idiot.'

the interview with Fudge where he refers to Voldemort as
'Lord - Thingy'.

at the end in the hospital wing where ron makes noises in imitation of centaur hooves and umbridge sits bolt upright, terrified... well, looks like she got hers at any rate (though i don't think we've seen the last of her..)

'I expect what you're not aware of would fill several books, Dursley,' growled Moody.

ginny was great in this book. two of my favorite Ginny moments were when her mom askes her who threw dungbombs and she immidietly answers "Crookshanks. He loves playing with them."
I also laughed when Ginny said that she ditched Michael, her old boyfriend, and had already moved on to Dean Thomas. Ron's little sister has turned out to be a player!
and I loved seeing Gilderoy Lockheart again! i thought it was great that the show off got what he deserved and still didn't have his memory back.
and i laughed out loud when Grawp said, "HERMY! WHERE HAGGER?" in that tense moment, that really brought comic relief.
and as vile as she was, the portrait of Mrs. Black (Sirius' mom) was amusing
and i also liked how hopelessly klutzy Tonks was. i hope we see more of her again

Those are great funny parts!

Thanks for writing them down from the book. I can't get ahold of mine now because everyone else in the family is in line to pick it up!! (they all say I've had my turn.....so I have to wait).

I love Rowlings dry English humor, use of puns, etc. And I can imagine how well done they would be acted out too!

There was one part I really liked, Vernon was asking Harry about him watching the news and Harry said something like, "Yeah, it changes every day you know..." XD

many parts in the book made me smile but one particular part made me howl with laughter, i have now read the book twice and the second time 'round it was not near as funny but it hit the spot the first time

umbridge is criticizing the previous DADA teachers and then compliments professor quirrell
harry says "Yeah, Quirrell was a great teacher, there was just that minor drawback of him having Lord Voldemort sticking out the back of his head

i had to stop reading for several minutes to contain myself

Oh man... that was so funny, about Voldemort sticking outta his head. LOL I had to really laugh about that comment.

My favorite funny parts are Harry talking to Dursleys. And then that place where Ron's showing off because of Gryffindors winning the Quidditch championship and he reminds Harry to his dad;
When Tonks explains how she lurked Dursleys out of the house was one of my favorite sentences.
But my favorite part was Luna and Harry talking at the end of the book... it was kinda sad but still great :-) hope to see them talking about things like that again... death is a thing HP characters will have to confront with... I only hope they don't lose their humour:-D

I love how Harry has gotten bolder with the Dursley's. The comments that he makes to them just crack me up. In the beginning of book one, he was so quiet and afraid of them. But, little by little, he came out of his shell, that they placed him in, and he's opened his mouth.

I love when he says things that cause Uncle Vernon to stumble in his speach, or turn red with anger. I just picture that and laugh.

Everything that fred and george do is funny! they remind me of myself! i have a twin and we always do stuff like them! not with magic of course but just playing pranks om ppl!

Hey everone i think you have nost of the funny parts told but i thought when professer trewlaney the divination teacher ran into the main hall crying that made me laugh even though it was kinda sad. but the best part was at the end when lupin told off vernon and told him to backk off harry.

Yes, and then Mad Eye Moody showed them his eye and said that they would be "watching" them to make sure that they weren't mis-treating Harry. That was funny to me.

Well, I think that anytime someone makes Vernon squirm, it's funny. He thinks that he's this big tough guy... especially with the way he interacts with Harry. But, a wizard comes along... one that has a glass eye that swrills all around, and basically threatens him, and makes him a wuss, is funny.

i sstill dont get it! i meen i read somewhere on here today that people are noticing that harry is standing up t the durslys and i think that is sooo cool! im in the same situatuaion here! my parents were killed when i was 5 an di live with my dads sister that hated him for pushing her down the stairs and her loosing the baby. i know how harry feels not having a family!

I'm sorry to hear that, Meg. That's just awful that you lost your parent's, and at such a young age. And I'm sorry that you live with someone that, it sounds like, doesn't care much for you.

dont feel sorry! its fine! but ya i was reading lastnight CoS and thoguht of something in the movie malfoy gets his finger bitten my a mandrake but in the book gryffendors have herbolgy with the hufflepuffs not the slyhterines so wouldnt they do that in the movie as well? i meen it would have been just as easy right?

There are normally slight changes in movies when they come from a book. Maybe the movie had the Slytherins because it's who everyone already knew, and would recognize? I don't know.

right, they changed that a bit .. in the movies it seems as if all first years (no matter what house they are in) have lessons together - i kept seeing Susan Bones (the girl with the red hair) .. but that is probably because she is the daughter (?) of the director and therefore has to be in every second shot, right? ..

well, she is the daughter of the director but also meets the description so that doubles her apperiances in the movie. *i think*
