Which HP book (1 - 5) is your favorite, so far? |
| Posted by: Lawless | | I'm just wondering which of the Harry Potter books, so far, each of you have enjoyed the most.
I like all 5 books, for different reasons.
Sorcerer's Stone - I like that one because it's all about the introduction in to the world of Harry Potter, and him.
Chamber of Secrets - I loved the mystery of trying to figure out what was in the chamber, and what was happening to all the characters because of the basilik.
Prisioner of Azkaban - The Dememters were great... and the intro of Sirius rocked. Great character.
Goblet of Fire - This book had me on my feet from the beginning. There was so much happening in here, and so much that you couldn't figure out. The ending was great, even if the life of Cedric was taken.
Order of the Phoenix - I think that this has to be my favorite book, so far, because we are seeing the characters at an older age, learning more, and being more responsible. The fact that Voldermort is back brings such a darkness to the story, and watching Harry and the gang go through everything, being strong, and getting involved in helping any way they can. There's such a maturity in the kids, which I like seeing. And the fact that you're really seeing the characters being more than friends... they are being a family. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: krazy_chan | | i would say that my two favorite books would be the prisoner of azkaban and the order of the phoenix...
prisoner of azkaban- sirius has been my fav character since he was introduced in this book(i think him being able to turn into a dog is what started me off ^^) this book showed us more of harry's and his parents' past...i just loved the two new characters in this book, lupin and sirius they were great...also harry got the most useful maurder's map (mustve been strange to find out his dad was one of the people who made itXP)
order of the phoenix-isnt it strange that my fav books are the ones that introduce sirius and then take him away? well this one shows harry's faults (his temper) and this book has so much emotion and begins with the darkness that will probably continue on to the next books along with the conclusion of the harry/voldemort battle.... harry and the characters seem more human in this book, they fight have temper problems and it shows changes in the characters themselves ( like ginny^^ has anyone else noticed how she seems to be taking after fred and george? she has to be my second all time fav character) | | Reply To this Message

I've also noticed a lot of changes in Ginny. I think that she's someone that we're going to have to keep our eyes on. I don't know if she will be as devious as Fred and George... but she's got a lot of potential.
I agree with you that the characters seem even more real in this book. We're seeing characteristics in these people that we all deal with on a daily basis.
It will be interesting to see even more changes in the kids in this next book... see what their attitudes are like. See if there is a seriousness in them, since they are now past their O.W.L.'s and looking to their future careers.
Speaking of careers... that brings to mind a new topic. I think I will start one on furture careers for the characters.

| Posted by: Annegirl | | Prisoner of azkaban and order of phoenix are da best.
POA-I love the whole time turner thing . it is so cool and mysterious the way harry saw himself.
Order of Phoenix- we see sides of the characters that we've never seen before and we become more close to them. In ten owrds or less. we see the character's less serious/more emotional/themselves sides. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: tlrt | | I really liked the Prisoner of Azkaban the best. When I read this book I just couldn't put it down. Lupin and Sirius were introduced and I started to understand Snape a little. He was making potions for Lupin so that he could function. I really felt Harry was happy and it wasn't as dark as 4 and 5.
Order of the Phoenix is my next favorite, but it took a while to get going. I really wasn't stuck on it till the attack on Mr. Weasley. After that I couldn't put it down. A lot of caracters developed and Dumbledore finally explains things to Harry. | | Reply To this Message

We can't write too much when it comes to our favorite topic! There's just so much to say, discuss, and even, dissect.

| Posted by: Rhapsodie | | My favorite is definitely the Goblet of Fire- I just really liked the plot, the new characters, everything. I liked all the other books as well, Order of the Phoenix was great...but it was so dark, and it seemed like such a cliffhanger ending, it makes you want the 6th book sooner! | | Reply To this Message

Dissect means to examine, analyze, or criticize in minute detail.
I think that it's worth saying a lot to analyze and question things.
Yes, I'm the one from California.

This book will probably stand the test of time as JKR's best in terms of plot, pacing, and character studies. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: mrhsia22 | | I agree...the best one was Prisoner of Azkaban
Both suspenseful and full of twists...Order of the Phoenix had that too but sometimes I thought the characters went a little overboard. Especially Umbridge. I know she's part of the ministry, but how can she get away with everything she did: like cutting the childrens hands? | | Reply To this Message

Harry kept his hand hidden from the professors, and from everyone else for a long time. So, there was no way to get Umbridge in trouble for that.

Harry is going through puberty... but on top of that, look what he's got going against. He's got the vialest wizard trying to kill him at every turn, he's got family who don't want him, people who treat him like he's insane, because of all the stories and lies printed up about him. He's got so much pressure on his shoulders and eventually, the kid is gonna snap. He's doing quite well, in my humble opinion, with the plate that he's been dealt in this life. He is feeling everyday, normal teenage angst. He's feeling jealousy like all humans do. And he's learning to control feelings that are coming to him for the first time in his life.

| Posted by: weathergirl | | Prisoner of Az and Goblet of fire were my all-time favorites. I really liked the Order of the Phoenix, though there seemed to be a darker edgy-ness about it that I couldnt define. perhaps it was part Harry's adolescent moodiness that hung over many a chapter, though I think much of the forboding dark feeling came from the overwhelmingly unjust Umbridge. I waited the entire book for Umbridge to be fed her just desserts. I don't think what became of her was equal retributuion for her misdeeds. ...and just when I was certain she was about to be pulverized by many a cloven hoof! | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: fuscia | | Prisoner of Az was my personal favorite. I just loved Professor Lupin. OOP was great. It was dark and set us up for the last two books. I too was disappointed that Umbridge did not face the music for her horrible misdeeds. I hope the next book deals with her the way she deserves!
Welcome Weathergirl. That makes San Diego Harry Potter territory-3 of us | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: agent mike | | POA was a solid piece of fiction in that the plot, structure and humour were in perfect harmony with one another. However, whilst GOF is lengthy and intentionally drawn out, the conclusion makes it all worth while. I don't think I've read another book with such a clever resolution, and it is therefore my personal favourite. Although it's slightly off-topic and a bit of a downer, I have to say that OOTP was my least favourite because although it boasted nigh on 800 pages, the plot wasn't that much more complex than book 1. Even if it's just a transition story, there's no excuse for sacrificing plot. | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: fuscia | | As always, well said Mike. OOP was a bit disappointing because of the plot. I expected some deep and interesting mysteries and resolution. What we were given were too many red herrings. I just pray that book 6 will keep us on the edge of our seats with an exciting plot. | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: gaboman | | Very well said Mike, like fuscia already said - though my favorite is PoA. GoF is probably second however, and I agree 100% in your reasoning why it's your favorite... I just love the Dementors scared the hell out of me. | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: agent mike | | What would be nice would be if book 5 and 6 were both two parts of one big story. Perhaps OOTP is just a set-up for the next installment so that book 6 can be just an 800-page twist. | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: Lawless | | Well, JKR did say that book 5 was the foundational set up for books 6 & 7. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lil' Washu | | My favorite book out of the series has to be Prisoner of Azkaban. I mean, come on, you're introduced to two amazing characters: Sirius and Remus. It was so cool. I loved all the twist and turns of it and the Dementer's sent chills down my spine. I really really hope that they don't screw it up on the movie because I'll be so disappointed. | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: fuscia | | I totally agree with you Lilw. Sirius and Remus were by far the most interesting characters. I just loved book 3. It had danger, humor, surprise twists. Ah, I can't wait for the movie. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lil' Washu | | Yeah, that's why I was so sad when you-know-who died_-_ I still don't want to ruin it for anyone who still hasn't read the book(what kind of person are you that hasn't read the book yet if you haven't?!?!?!) but anyway, I believe my second favortie after POA would have to be Goblet of Fire. There's tons of action in there and Voldemort makes a return and everything. Very suspensful^_^ | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lawless | | No, she has said, time and again, that she doesn't want to take that series any farther.
Not going to argue with you over who's a bigger HP fan. Because there are some of us that are very dedicated to HP and everything. We digest every book, plot, clues, etc... I don't like to get in 'pissing' contests with others over who knows what, or who likes this better. We don't do that on here. We're all huge fans and have a fun time.
We are hoping that JKR might go "back in time" and do the story on Prof. Dumbledore. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lawless | | No, Kim... there is a trivia thread in the HP forum... in the Games section! Check it out. It was really going there durning the summer, but we lost a lot of people who have gone back to school. Please, feel free to have fun. We love people in the HP forum of INReview, because we all get along and have a good time. Check it out. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: No Comment | | I love Chamber of Secrets, and always will. It just seems to be the darkest of all of the books (except the end of OotP).
But I still like all of them except really for the first one:
Chamber of Secrets: Slytherin, slytherin, slytherin. LOL! No, but it had a very indepth plot and it was kinda like a mystery in its own way.
Prisoner of Azkaban: SIRIUS AND REMUS!! Need any more reason than that?
Goble of Fire: Just everything about it is awesome, the Quidditch World Cup and the Triwizard Tournament, but there wasn't enough Remus in it.
OotP: I HATED THE END... Harry Potter books don't make me cry, and I was crying. He can't be gone! NOOOOO!!
And I think I have had way too much sugar and will just stop now. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Nymphadora | | My favorite was POA. I loved that one. I finished it in like 3 days. I mean it didn't take me long to read the others either but I just read that one every chance I had. Such a suprise ending, as always. | | Reply To this Message
