Clay Aiken: The Real "Winner" of American Idol 2 ?

After letting the dust settle in the controversial decision that was the announcement of Ruben Studdard as the American Idol 2 competition winner, it seems to be increasingly prevalent that runner up Clay Aiken is the true winner of the anomaly that was the American Idol finale.

The decision by the legendary music magazine Rolling Stone to feature Aiken as its June 20th edition cover boy, and dedicate a full length feature/photo shoot in that magazine is further proof that, although Studdard may have been thought to be number one, he must really feel like ... number two.

That, combined with numerous television appearances, either solo or as the thinner half of the future comedy team of Aiken & Studdard, a top selling debut cd double A single (having outsold Stoddard's dramatically), and as the number one requested/most played artist on many top 10 national radio shows, Aiken continues his rise amongst the legendary success stories in the world of music.

Not that 19 management would mind, since they're in the business to make money, and having dual Idols still making cash for them is a cherry on the top of the pop music treat they're promoting in Studdard/Aiken...almost like hedging their bets, but both pay off for them.

Sadly, personality plays a big part in the TV coverage of the two. Studdard may be painfully shy, or just not too loquacious enough to hold lengthy interviews, as he always seems to have Aiken attached to his hip, like some bizarre circus conjoined twin. Where as Aiken, if given the opportunity, will be a non stop, quote producing chatterbox, quite charming and still inspiring swooning amongst the audience members and show hosts alike (that **Thud** you hear is Diane Saywer hitting the floor, once again!**).

It was announced recently that both Studdard and Aiken (again) will debut their much awaited full length cd's on August 19th, really fast compared to the drawn out months of waiting that American Idol 1 winner Kelly Clarkson's fans had to wait impatiently for her debut cd "Miss Independent" to be released. Plus, 19 management and others involved don't want a repeat of the apparent disaster that is the way overdue debut of AI1's runner-up Justin Guarini's debut cd...one that seems to be tanking so far, he becoming an afterthought to the current dynamic duo's success. So, wisely, management will strike while the iron's hot.

There is speculation that there may be a World Idol competition, with top finalists from around the world vying for more exposure worldwide. Such other countries' luminaries as Gareth Gates and Wil Young from England, Germany's bizarre export Daniel K., and some American Idol finalists may be a part of the plan of producers in the future. That would be unfortunate, but may be laugh worthy, so bring it on!

The fact that Clay Aiken's present/future is still a white hot topic on the internet, on radio request lines (much to the chagrin of radio station receptionists !), and in the media (Aiken sells magazines, y'all!) ... plus at the cash register in the form of cd sales continues to show that the true future star may have been number two on the show, but number one in the future that is the fickle music/entertainment industry.

Yeah, that transcript of Diane Sawyer interview would be nice. I heard that she was drooling buckets over him! Rumor has it that Clay is the next Leonardo DiCaprio--musically. I believe it!

That was the point. Personally, I'd rather Leo just go back to the hole he crawled into, but meh, if anyone out there likes him, good for you. The point of my statement is that when Leo was at the peek of his career, he was loved by millions, and was an icon. He was famous and very talented at what he did (you can disagree on that one if you want, I am...) That is what I meant by comparing Clay to him. He has become a heatthrob (I hate that word, but it best describes him at this moment) and he is very talented musically...

So ... do you think they'll make a music video of Clay hanging off the bow of a boat with his arms out singing "On the Wings of Love" or something ?

i think of clay more as this generation's Elvis or Sinatra.........a rarity that happens once every 20 or 30 years.

Yeah In the Special Addition Idol magazine(that has the gorgeous bathroom picture in it!) They compared Clay to Elton John ...whats the similarities there cuz i dont think that Elton John even comes close to Clay! No offense to the Elton fans. But does any buddy see the similarities?

It makes you wonder if things were rigged. Simon did not want Clay to win. He stated many times that Clay was not what an American Idol was. He also said, multiple times, that Ruben was what he was looking for. I'm not saying that it WAS rigged... but it's something to think about. Clay should have won. Ruben had much lower votes than Clay did. Ruben went in the bottom three more than once. Did Clay? Hmmmmmmmmmm...

So how long have you been a Clay fan?

Since the beggining. But I did miss a lot of episodes, when I said a lot, I mean like I only saw 2 but I always wanted Clay 2 win.

So what if you've seen 12 episodes or only one. What matters is that you found someone on the show whose talent blew you away. You didn't miss much with the other episodes you didn't see. But I'll fill you in. Ruben won and the other contestants were voted off. That's pretty much it.

yea, im a late Clay comer (sp?) too. I watched him on AI for all the wrong reasons, but when he opened up his mouth and belted out unchained melody (my first time watching, ever) I immediately fell in love (after getting up and regaining conciousness) and have been hooked ever since. After that there were like what 2 shows left? and now i'm mad bcus taping all those other shows would have come in handy w/ my crazy obesession and my clay withdrawls.

hehehe yeah well Im pretty much AI obsessed. I think I missed like 2 episods total but like PuNkY BrEwStEr said you didnt have to watch every eposode to be hooked on Clay! I was impressed with im at his audition! hehehe

I totally agree, I had known (well, watched on tv) him for like what? 3 min and I was in love! I would really like to see what he looked like tho in the begining (I've seen the two audition pics a million times but that doesn't do it 4me anymore) and the "transformation" everyone is talking about. Also I feel left out when everyone's disscussing all the hype about what your fav Clay performance is, or the hip shake, facial expressions, and stuff, I'm like uhhh I DIDN'T GET TO SEE IT! Oh well, just can't wait till the dvd comes out! Right now, gotta rely on those picures

yeah Ruben does have talent and he is the american idol but that is because alot of teenagers watched the show...not so many adults and because of that when their singles came out along with all the teenagers who whatched the show...adults bought the singles too so Im guessing Clay is more popular in public!

Clay was more popular on the show too. LIke that one time they brought that lady up to see how much she knew about Clay. Or how many more people had Clay signs and how louder they were when he came out. It is little things like that, that show who the TRUE AI should have been. But we all know who it is and we cant do much else about it.

hehehe I went to the concert last night...IT WAS SO AMAZING TONS OF CLAY!!! first I screamed my guts out and then I cryed it was the best time in my life!

No he didnt touch me...he didnt come out into the isle and I didnt have a sign but I made shirts they(I made 3 for me and my 2 sisters) had tons of pictures of him on it they're awesome I LOVE CLAY SOO MUCH!

DITTO! I was at the concert. I had decent seats, w/ binoculars I could see the sweat on his face. He's great. These girls by a banister were jumping and screaming for him, and in the middle of talking he stopped, looked at the girls, and said " I really wish you girls would stop jumping, you're making me nervous and I don't want any of my fans being hurt" the girls went NUTS.

Then he started singing "Invisible" ( AWESOME song ) and the girls looked like they were doing jumping jacks, they were just so excited jumping up and down, that he looked up, while singing, and was jumping with them, doing jumping jacks and what-not...he's great.

I got pics. from the concert. You can see Clay on the big telescreen. I'll try to post them ASAP. I dunno how long it'll be tho, so if anyony wants to give their e-mail, PM me or leave em on here and I'll try to get em to you as soon as i can.
