| Great show tonight! Some really great standout performances... and I loved the group numbers! I always enjoy the opening "I Came to Work" theme and it didn't disappoint me this week. I really loved the 2nd "Fame" group number! Staying Alive was OK too... I can't believe these contestants learn so much choreaography every week... they are really working hard so I give them much respect for that!!!
So here are my rankings based on what I've seen of the contestants so far, considering particularly what I saw tonight:
1. SHANNON TRIPLE THREAT TRIPLE THREAT TRIPLE THREAT TRIPLE THREAT TRIPLE THREAT OMG AWESOME She's got it--the total package... She's gorgeous! She can move--just about the best dancer of the bunch!! And she can saaaaang!!!!!!!! And sooo sweet!!! Girl I'm in love with you!!!!!    
2. Alex - very nice... very smooth, strong voice & stage presence, great personality, and goodlooking!
3. Harlemm - The guy is awesome... very unique... definitely a triple threat... his quirkiness really adds to his charm... but maybe a little *too* weird and over sensitive??? I would like to see a more masculine side of him come out... two songs in a row by women... hmmmm... And he loses a few points with me for lying about his age... but still I think he's great and would be very happy to see him make the top 3...
4. Moy - So her vocals weren't so hot... but she picked a tough song... I like her, she's got a magnetic charisma to her on stage... another unique person who is very interesting to watch. And I love her dancing, she's one of the best in that area...
5. Justin - I have enjoyed him very much.. I love his personality and find him very funny and entertaining. He writes his own material which is a plus. He has great confidence... Best of luck to him in this competition!
6. (tie) Serena - Yep, she looks exactly like Gladys Knight, sings similar to Whitney Houston (not nearly as good, but who can?), has a strong stage presence, is very confident (maybe a little too overconfident?) Sure she's a wonderful vocalist but I think she will be pigeonholed into the Whitney Houston category... just like what happened with Trenyce in AI. And sure Whitney is a great singer.. but when's the last time Whitney (or any of her clones) has been on the A-list at pop radio??? Bottom line, I think she's great, but overrated.
(tie) Garry - Very nice performance, I was impressed. Good song choice, good movement & stage presence. Maybe a little too cocky in his attitude.. that was kind of a turn-off, but I was pleased with his performance.
8. Brandon - I've criticized him over the last couple of weeks since I didn't think he was the best choice for the top 12, but I will say I was *very* impressed with him tonight... He picked a great song and did a great job with it... great charisma and stage presence... his voice sounded good (maybe just a *little* weak but still a big improvement over last time!) and his dance moves were on... I think his youth and inexperience will hurt him in this contest but he has plenty of years ahead of him to make it big... he's definitely good, but he's up against tough competition.
9. Lauren (is that her name? The one who did Last Dance?) Nice job! But kind of ho-hum... didn't make her stand out... but it wasn't bad! And she looked great!
10. Allyson (whoever sang Celine Dion?) She looked great but she shouldn't have chosen a song so out of reach for her... I think that will really hurt her and she may be one to get the boot next week...
11. Jamie - I see her as *sort of* a triple threat because she's pretty well rounded in that she's got some of all three elements... but not REALLY strong in any one of them. But I was really disappointed with her performance of Miss You Much because it was karaoke. She did a great job of being Janet Jackson-- but it was Janet Jackson, not Jamie... I feel like she wasn't letting the audience know who she was... Plus her vocals were a littlke weak.
12. Raymond - He's a sweetheart he really is... but I'm sorry he didn't work for me tonight... In fact all I could see was a repeat of Clay Aiken doing Grease (Clay's all-time worst AI performance  ) complete with red jacket, red shoes and to top it all off he did the same hip wiggle/thrust!!!!! I was litetally screaming at my TV "OH MY GOD OH MY GOD NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!" 
My predictions to go next week are probably Lauren and either Allyson, Raymond or Jamie, but I guess I will lean towards Raymond.
It will be interesting to see how the voting dynamics work out in this show compared to AI since you are limited to 5 votes per number (I think this is a great idea BTW!!!) It will be less likely that contestants who have a lot of "hardcore" fans will fare as well as opposed to having general mass-appeal??? We'll see... | |
