Yeah!! Go Raymond!!! I'm one of his friends from college, and all I can say is how happy I am for him! He is definitely living out his dream, and he is talented in so many ways that he's perfect for this! Yay, let's have a "support Ray" thread. :-) Go Ray and his awesome talent (and very caring, sweet personality)!

I liked Ray, but I agree I don't think I saw him at his best... He barely made 3rd place in my personal ranking th eother night...

What I did like him was his smile... he has nice enthusiasm and confidence about himself... and for the same reason I like Justin, he's a little bit "different" from what you're used to seeing in this contest...

I didn't notice his dancing either, or it didn't stand out for me much, so I'd like to see more of that...

However, someone said that he hasn't had any formal dance training and I think that could work against him... I don't understand why there are so many people in these talent shows like AI and Fame who get into the top 12 without formal training... to me that is a necessity if you want to win...

I see where you're coming from, but personally, I don't think formal training is necessary if you have the natural talent. Plus, the object of these shows is to see who has great talent, and then the show will help them aid this talent grow.

Definitely, natural talent is VERY important... but formal training is necessary to "refine" it... without it you're still a good dancer, you're just a little "rough on the edges"... learning proper technique will help you smooth those edges and give you that "extra something" to help you win...

To reply to the comment about Ray not being at his best... Monday night, you were right, it wasn't really at his best. He's capable of much better, and I'm just really glad that the judges liked wth they saw of him and advanced him to the finals. I can't wait for him to really blow 'em outta the water.

Well there's no way for anyone to deny that formal training smoothes the rough edges. However, the reason I responded to your last point was because I think it's unfair to say that formal training is a necessity because not everyone who loves singing and dancing has had the opportunity/funds to formally train him/herself. I guess I just love rooting for the underdog, and ray's definitely mah dawg.

Actually, Raymond has had formal training. I know he's taken some dance classes (e.g., jazz, etc.) in college. So he has both: natural talent and formal training! To me, though, natural talent is still very important. If you can pick up dancing on your own, I think you're a more effective dancer compared to a clumsy person who's had formal training and still lacks that natural talent. Besides, I think Raymond's natural talent is an advantage because such natural talent includes his creativity in dancing. Thus, he will be able to come up with his own choreography, something that is unique and expresses his own personality. Learning how to be creative doesn't necessarily come with formal training.

actually, raymond choreographed some of our dances in high school. They were awesome!!!! A lot better than the so called "professionals" they brought in.

I'm not saying it's an *absolute* necessity to be formally trained to win this show, but considering there is so much great dance talent in this contest I really think those who have perfected their techniqe the most will have a very strong edge...

I watched Raymond closely in the group number tonight... and I do like him, I think he has a wonderful positive energy that I like... He looks like he is having a lot of fun, he enjoys himself onstage, and he enjoys the music... you can tell because he moves well to it.. he does have a great natural talent for feeling & moving to the music...

But there were others in the group number that stood out a lot more to me... the ones that really used their bodies and moved through it as they danced... like all of their body was connected throughout themselves to move as one unit. Sharp, snappy and precise movements that really accented the music while still moving fluidly throughout the whole body, making it very much an athletic movement...

That's what I don't see from Raymond, as well as many of the other dancers... I see disconnection within the body, and I see fuzzy undefined movements and positions... however well he moves to the music... and I think he has good showmanship but he has other attributes than dancing (like his great smile ) that help that his showmanship and make up for the dancing imperfections...

... All JMHO
