I will preface this by saying (again) that I am trying to give this show every opportunity. I want to like the show. I really do!

But last night's show left me feeling very unimpressed. Here are my thoughts (and feel free to agree or disagree with them!):

1. The performances were overall average, or below. When they showed these contestants during the auditions as well as their vignettes before they performed, a lot of these people appeared to have real talent in both singing and dancing. Once onstage, however, I felt a lot was left to be desired.

There was not a contestant that blew me away last night. Each contestant kept the song within a certain vocal range instead of "going for it" (octaves were lowered or songs were chosen without much range to begin with), and the choreography did not reflect the type of song that was being performed. Judging from the previous show, I would have thought at least 2 of the people in this group were going to be all-world.

2. The judges (ad nauseam) lived up to all the expectation that has been bantered about on this board. In other words (and if this is even possible), they were worse than last week.

They admitted to having watched the warmups, so they had already formed an opinion about the contestants before the show even began (much like last week). When the time came to give their on-air opinions, this fact is so transparent it is not up for debate. They pretty much gave away their picks before the dancing portion of the show. If you didn't know who they were picking, you weren't listening very closely.

3. Joey Fatone sucks as a host. There's really nothing more to say regarding this.

4. The production value of this show is not very good. The filming resembles a video camera my parents owned when I was a kid. I realize they are trying to project this "Broadway" image with the stage setting and such, but feel free light up the stage a bit more!

To end on a more positive note, the choreography was overall much better last night. It could have been because there were better dancers on the show this week, but I thought this show was much stronger in that regard.

I agree with you to a certain extent, but i think the group that went on last night were dancers who sang...except for Serena, so when it came down to doing a double piroute and kicking their face, they could all do which to the avergae person isnt something easy....so the choreography was good, and their energy in the group was also good. But i do agree wiht you that the voices werent that impressive, and they all sounded very "sing-songy" ....anyways i think last week was really great and it looks like next week has a lot of talent from the previews also...overall i really like the show, so maybe next week well see some more vocally impressive songs

in my humble opinion, all the performers were overdoing it so bad that was having doubts if the show will be taken seriously. EXCEPT for one terrific performer---serena. i hope she makes it. although im also rooting for jamie i saw her performance (and michele's as well) as a bit too cabaret bordering on striptease for me.

Well last night was a tough call for me since I didn't think anyone had a complete package...

Michelle--awesome dancer, OK singer, awesome confidence
Brandon--good dancer, OK singer, great confidence
Ryan--awesome dancer, good singer, OK confidence
Jameson--good dancer, good singer, awesome confidence
Serena--OK dancer, good singer, great confidence
Todd--Lacks in dancing, great singer, OK confidence

In the end though I think it should have probably been the three girls who advanced, with MAYBE Ryan taking one of their places. I completely disagree with Brandon as a choice.

I'm not crazy about the judges though I am starting to like Carnie, I think it was her "Is anyone else horny in here?" comment, LOL... I appreciate her because it seems that she's trying to lighten the mood some, because you know with those contestants being so nervous there is tension in the air.

I'm actually starting to like Joey as a host too... he seems to be having fun with it, not taking it too seriously, but he keeps things going...

I reallly wanted to like the show better than I did. I enjoyed last week.

I was surprised that they repeated the opening production number "I Came To Work" again. Didn't realize that this would be the signature tune. I liked it well enough (better the first time) but it's already stale.

I like Carnie ~ I don't think much of the other judges, but Ms. Wilson is funny, albeit a little too generous with her favorable comments, but perhaps she's still warming up to the position.

I expected better talent this episode and had been looking forward to the show. I was disappointed by everyone, except Serena. She will make it to the end.

Michelle, while talented, scared the snot outta me. Whoa! The only thing missing from that performance was the stripper pole. I like a hot tune but that was over the top for me.

Brandon was overrated, Todd was too theatrical and Jamison was good. Ryan, while clearly a terrific dancer, was so-so and this surprised me based on what I'd seen previously. I expected him to be better than he appeared last night. If I were him, I'd not be pleased that they showcased his crying jag!

I'll watch to see the next two rounds, but remain on the fence once it gets to the audience vote. Depends on what I see over the next two episodes.

Hey Sponge! I think u were right on with all of your comments. I was surprised too that they did the same dance as the opener - I was looking forward to a new one too. I am a Brandon supporter though!! He was a little shaky last night but he was 1st up, he was nervous and he messed up the lyrics! As he becomes a little more comfortable with his unbelievable position he will show you and everyone that he really deserves to be there ! Keep watching him, he will win you over!

i remember brandon as one of the best dancers during the final phase of the audition that made debbie allen shoot up from her seat and chortle her signature laugh/cackle and exclaimed with glee: "these kids are dancing off the walls! the theater is screaming! its like watching cirque de soliel!" it was an awesome show of dance skills. although i wasnt really keen with brandon's singing last night, i think he danced WILD!

the way i see it, this show (as well as all the other talent shows) is really a tedious process of finding fresh talent. the finalists, whether they will go all the way or not, have the rare opportunity to showcase their talent and be "seen" by the right people in the industry. they are actually better off than the other aspiring artists who have to go through the well worn path of knocking at doors and get rejected without even being seen by the public eye who are equally a good judge of talent. to the finalists, talent shows like this is their freeway to their lifelong dream of having a career in music/dance/acting.

im not really a fan of carnie wilson but her group Wilson Phillips did great at the peak of their career. its not fair and not nice to to say that she has no talent. pls correct me if i'm wrong but i think she got her talent from her dad who is a Beach Boy. and its even worse to call her a beached whale. people like her have overcome a lot of emotional trials with the way their anatomy was created. and i just admire the way she carried herself and how she was able to take care of her health with the help from the experts. as you may know, people like her didnt want to be big like that. if you are one of those people who still think that being obese is a result of overeating, then you are not very well-informed. obesity is a result of several biological factors. im not an expert on the subject but i know for sure that our bodies dont react the same way. so plez, think deeply before you dispense any shallow judgements.

I agree...I think it's WRONGO to pick on people for their phyical imperfections. God knows we all have them...and some more than others...but still...there's a difference between being overweight for one reason or another and say...not brushing one's teeth...that said, I'm not really a Carnie fan...but not because she was fat!!

Unfortunately, everyone is not able to receive help from the "EXPERTS" for financial reasons. Let's be honest here...is she a judge on this show for her singing abilities?..or for the fact that she metamorphosed her body and managed to write a book on her "trials and tribulations" that received a bit of hype from the media? You tell me. Loosing weight is an accomplishment. Having the weight physically removed from your body is another story.

Maybe shallow, but definitely honest.

How she lost the weight is, to me, not an issue. I do admire her for pulling herself together and taking the steps necessary to get healthy. She gets a thumbs up for that

Carnie & Wendy Wilson (Dad is Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys) & Chynna Phillips (mom in the mamas & papas) were the group Wilson Phillips

that's a given: everyone doesnt have equal financial freedom. BUT everyone's gotta do what they gotta do! If ANYBODY had that problem and they had the dough OF COURSE they will take advantage of the opportunity to do something about the problem if its in line with their values. im no great fan of carnie's and she's not really my first choice to judge fame but then its still unfair and shallow judgement to attack her physical imperfections. you cannot always make an INSENSITIVE comment and qualify it as HONEST.

That's all you got? By the responses to my comment you'd think I was speaking of Mother Teresa. Carnie is evil...almost as evil as JoJo.
