By the year 2020, the nation's capital will no longer be a "Chocolate City". " It will wind up more like a Los Angeles or a New York, with no clear majority. Declining black pop is right in line with D.C.'s new 20-year revitalization plans.

Why are Black's leaving in record numbers?

"WE can't afford to live here. Look at the housing costs, WE HAVE TO LEAVE. I love D.C. but it costs too much to live here now."

The link doesn't work so I only have what you are saying. The thing is I wonder if it is just blacks and if it just Washington. There has to be some members of the white population that cannot afford to live in Washington. The house price issue is a problem for everybody and it seems not just in the US but in the West as a whole, I have a fairly well paid job and I can just afford to live in my birth city I have a broter who cant, this is a problem you are finding in prety much every major city in the US and in Europe and as you say as gentrification is also a problem as long as we have regeneration projects and put upper class houses in working class areas you have a problem.

What I don't understand does Washington not have houses that the governemnt owns and rents out to people for a fairly cheap price ( we call them council houses) or maybe the government should do what is happening here which is the affordable housing policy maybe if something like that was available maybe the poorer people miught be able to stay in thier home states. It suck to be on the receiving end of this regeneration and stuff but sadly there is very little that can be done.

Black people are moving to the burbs, the Hispanic population is increasing in cities.

Good news for black folks really. Look at Prince George's county in Maryland it's mostly middle class blacks.

Gentrification sucks, but what are the developers supposed to do? Let the projects sit there forever?

If they can't afford to live there, then go get a better job. Go back to school. Plenty of programs and assistance out there.

Like this idea - in the UK governemnt have come up with an didea where housebuilders can build luxury houses in an area on the condition that the build a certain number of affordable house. See that may be a solution to the problem in Washington. what do you think?

Well I would not say it's criminal and I don't think the sole intent is to force people from thier homes, if you want to see what people being froced from thier homes looks like check out the smuggled tapes from Zimbabwe.

The thing is where have these people gone, are they living on the streets or put in different accomadation, left the state? I would like to know because nobody has explained that yet. It may be in the article but like I said the article you posted does not work.

Of course we should remember one thing about this regeneration system and it's important because this is not so much a race as a people issue. You see whites and black have probbaly been moved from this are in DC and when the regeneration is complete and all these nice new houses and stuff is put up whites and blacks will buy these houses to.

First off you need to get it into your head that it's not racial I guarntee you that whites are having the same problems and in other states and cities not just in the US but in the west as a whole, so it can't be racial if whites and blacks are suffering.

Secondly the main thrust of the article is not sio much about house prices as the fact that liquer stores are going to be clsed down when this becomes a "white neighborhood" but again look at the facts whenever you have regeneration like this areas of land will have change of use orders.

Also I have yet to see anyone apart from you who says this is illegal, it appears that evrything has been done legally, just because you disagree with something does not make it illegal does it?

Of course there are ways to change this decline in washington DC, see a project of this size won't happen overnight we are talking many years possibly a decade from start to finish. Get parents and teachers to encourage the kids black and white from the poorer areas to stick in and work hard maybe go on to further education and get a good job that pays good wages so when the project is finished they can afford to live in these areas.
